Policing and Celtic

830

I spoke to Celtic today about various questions surrounding stewarding and policing in and around the stadium.

The club would not be specific on any particular incident but I got a run down on various instances (alleged assault, vandalism) when Celtic have responded to police requests for identifying information on fans.  Celtic said the police can only ask for identifying information if they allege a crime has been committed and Celtic’s safety certificate, allowing them to open the stadium, depends on the club complying with police requests if they allege a crime has been committed.

The club were clear that complying with police requests on such instances is not a matter of choice for Celtic, “It happens, it has always happened, and it happens at every other club in the UK”.

I asked if the club target fans and ask the police to arrest them.  I was told this is ludicrous to suggest the police do the bidding of the club (I was also laughed at for making the suggestion).  Celtic can revoke tickets and stadium access without recourse to the police.

My conversation happened before anyone at Celtic heard last night’s podcast from the HomeBhoys but I asked specific questions about the red haired fan discussed who was allegedly brandishing a seat and was told no police request had been received in connection to him and that his details had therefore not been passed to the police.

I understand the club have met with various supporters’ groups and clarified these issues, as well as more general stadium safety matters, and that they will issue a statement later today in response to questions asked by the Celtic Trust, who I believe put many of these points in writing.

After speaking to Celtic I spoke to a police officer who is a regular Match Commander at SPL games (not Celtic games) who confirmed clubs would lose their safety certificate if they failed to cooperate with the police.

Having had the chance to put questions to Celtic I asked them give others the same opportunity and to unconditionally meet with any fans’ group with concerns on any of these matters. They assured me they would.

The bit that I question is where ye say that oor rivals are deed !?!?

    I know, I know…

Ye see…for me – the huns wulny die until – ibrokes is flattened. imo

Another tiny wee thing….the huns are oot the same league as us for whit

    3/4 of a season and yet – CP is half-empty ?

What crowds would we get if it came to pass that – the huns were liquidated

again and, had ibrokes reduced to a pile of asbestos dust ?

I would give it a year and – we would be oot the gemme tae !

Oh…I forgot yer wee bit aboot the bould Gerry McNee – no on the tv anymair.

    Well….for me..since Gerry hung-up his pen it’s been – wall 2 wall LList’s.

Auld Hugh Keevins came away wi a statement on the SSB last Saturday

where he said sumfin like – “We’ve got Rangers fans on here telling us that they won’t go back into the SPL and….we’ve also got Celtic fans on saying that they(Celtic fans) don’t think – Rangers have been punished enough. So…going by that…I think that the game in this country is FINISHED !!!”

I think that HK has got a point !!!

wise words…the Harvard Business School define “real vision” as 1% vision and 99% alignment.

The need for a compromise is great however the wounds are not yet healed rom the Gallowgate incident and maybe the FAC demo will keep the fire stoked. Perhaps a clear statement from the club, an open invitation to all factions and a summit meeting at season end is the only way forward.

Well done mate, it’s not often that someone posts something where I disagree with everything in it.

I bought TWO season books instead of just paying at the gate this season because my faith in Scottish football supporters was boosted by them refusing to cow tow like yersel to the armageddon crap.

I travel a distance to get to games so I miss some, mainly because of the success of our club I canny afford the time to get up the road 3 times a week sometimes.

The demise of the Hun is a huge opportunity for some of our bigger provincial clubs to spend their extra money wisely and step up to the plate.

People like you and the MSM constantly talking down our game should just shut it, disappear, and don’t come back.

    Rival group? The White Brigade?

There will always be factions in any group. I’m sure there are guys in the GB who don’t agree with everything the group have done or suggest.

    Etc.,

    —–

Yes I agree everyone behind Celts – I suppose the term ‘Rival Group’ conveys a sense of being in opposition – probably more rivals in how to demonstrate support for the club – an alternative way of expressing feelings

It’s a young man’s game all that jumping about and singing and stuff…

I’ll leave it to them :-)

Oh aye – and who speaks for the other 30k of seats that have emptied

awe roon aboot where I sit ?

Here’s the thing…last season the fans of – EVERY club in the country said

collectively – “Don’t let the huns / sevco into the SPL and – we’ll all fill the stadiums

week in, week out to offset the loss of the hun£ !!!”

    What happened there ?

Only on 4 occasions has CP been filled to capacity – CL games !

So…don’t be surprised to see – the clubs collectively voting the huns back into the

SPL next season and, pointing oot to their supporters – “…yeez said ye would turn out if the huns were refused entry and – didny see it through !”

Or words to that effect .

I agree with your post relating to Bondibrian’s point. We only have to look at how they a running things in the Bundesliga. Every club has a standing kop at the ‘home end’. The atmosphere is very evident, even through TV cameras, and the backing the home club gets from it is huge, just like the old jungle or the Liverpool kop. German fans can be seen waving club ultra banners (many with political slogans too) while drinking low alcohol beer, packed in like sardines, taking part in lateral movement, but creating a great atmosphere at practically every ground (remind you of any other group?). Its not only allowed, its encouraged by the governing bodies who also dictate that prices are kept to a minimum. Two seasons ago a Dortmund season book cost the same as a Dunfermline one. The Germans usually get it right, as their football organisation, their clubs’ health, the booming crowds and their national team’s success would back up.

I suspect the only people who think the Germans are doing it wrong are Salmond, Strathclyde plod and the SPL/SFA.

You actually believe the crap written in the chip wrappers.

I could guarantee that there have been more Celtic fans through our gates this season than many of the previous, even as far back as November there were two clubs in the land that had more than a million through the gates, Celtic and Manchester United.
