Politics of the game encroaching on Neil Lennon

847

It is one thing for football fans and administrators to be embroiled in the politics of the game but it’s no wonder that Neil Lennon tires of such subjects.  His team are top of the SPL and in the knockout stages of the Champions League but he is being distracted by references to his club emanating from the lower leagues.  Maybe he should limit his comments on this subject to those of Walter Smith, “We wish the new Rangers Football Club every good fortune.”  Every “new” club deserves the same courtesy.

Can you imagine the reaction if Neil said the same!

Speaking of which, I see the man who has avoided trying to win friends among other clubs since his arrival in the game last year is now trying to influence people on league reconstruction.  Good luck with that.

We spoke over the weekend about well-run clubs in the SPL (Inverness, St Johnstone, Ross County, Motherwell), where managers come and go but results tend to remain buoyant.  Notably absent from this list was Dundee United, who have underachieved for years, but whose manager, Peter Houston, was today given permission to speak to English Championship side, Blackpool.  Houston has been unable to sprinkle magic dust over Tannadice so, if offered the Blackpool job, I expect him to accept.

United need to ask some fundamental questions should they be forced to replace their manager, like why they have vastly more resources than Motherwell, and appear to be able to produce prodigious young talent, but consistently fail to match the Lanarkshire side the in the league table.  They are a club in need of vision.

  1. Hartson and MacLeod were good players. Neither of them is particularly intelligent. They are saying what equally dim Celtic fans might say. The MSM use their views because it suits their (MSM) purpose. If the MSM decided to select CQN posters to “reflect” the views of most on this site, they would pick the likes of KevJungle and Neganon. The answer, of course, is to have nothing to do with the MSM.

Celts told to show the money for Tom

    Ronnie Cully

    Senior Sports Writer

CELTIC will have to make an offer for Tom Rogic before they are granted permission to take the Aussie star back to Glasgow.

Neil Lennon is back in the UK while Rogic is in Spain

QPR have made their interest in the 20-year-old official, with a £460,000 bid reported to have been lodged.

Last week, Reading had a £400,000 offer accepted by Rogic’s club, Central Coast Mariners, but the midfielder chose not to make the move.

With other clubs still in the hunt, the Hoops believe they are still ahead of the chasing pack as they have Rogic training with their squad here in Marbella.

With Neil Lennon back in Britain attending a managers’ and coaches’ seminar at the FA’s St George’s Centre, Celtic want to bring Rogic with them when the squad heads back to Glasgow on Wednesday.

But with the star now free of his three-game domestic suspension and available for Mariners’ A-League game this weekend, that plan will only be given the green light if Celtic upgrade their interest to ‘formal’ by talking money.

Mariners chairman Peter Turnbull said: “Celtic appear to have been impressed with Tom during his stay in Spain, and have requested Tom travel back to Glasgow with them to view their facilities, and see Glasgow first-hand.

“It’s not surprising to see Tom in such demand, and from such big clubs.

“We’re proud to have been able to give Tom this opportunity, and are especially pleased to see the quality of the clubs that have shown interest.”

Where does it say we’ve to make an offer before he can come to Glasgow?

Does seem to be an attempt to undermine his candidacy in the media today. Given the contribution of Irish golfers to the Ryder Cup, to the European Tour and to World golf, in recent times it would be a pity if that was not fully recognised at Gleneagles in 2014. If I am not mistaken Paul would be the first Irish Captain, certainly since it went from Great Britain and Ireland to Europe in the late 1970s. If he is good enough for McIlroy, he is more than good enough.

By your comment I feel that you have never been in the South Atlantic or any of the other great oceans, to sail through them and feel their power, it is indeed an experience that stays with you, and the sailors of all nations that fill the compliment of warships that sail these seas, especially in time of war or conflict, that is guts, that is bravery, not some politician in the safety of her/his office sorrounded by her/his acolytes, “go on boss give the order”. There is no bravery in that as it leaves the guts of the enemy sailors floating in the vastness of the South Atlantic. You appear to be a man of words but the great deed evades you!!
