And then the lights came back on.
You and I have discussed this before, but one week from tomorrow Celtic could be in involved in a +£20m penalty kick competition. Between now and then I’d have the players take 100 each. Preparation is everything and there’s no amount of preparation for penalties next week which will be too much.
You have to suspect that it’s too soon for Brendan Rodgers to throw new keeper, Dorus de Vries, into such a critical game, without a proper opportunity to work with his defenders, or be assessed by Stevie Woods.
After the Aberdeen game later this month we have a two week international break, where de Vries will be able to work with the coaching staff for an extended period, but that precedes the group stages of European competition, so I’m not sure when the new keeper will get a first team break.

Seemingly at the weekend the Warbmeister was talking about England wonder kid Jordan Rossiter, “he’s a natural number 4″
In all my days kicking a ball I have heard natural No 9, No 10 and even like Craig Gordon No 1, but ffs natural number 4 ?????
Ah well maybe the City trader knows best
Stop being disrespectful……:0
Re the reported fee for RIFC for Joe Garner, reported to be £1,750,000 over two instalments. Who is providing the funding? Something fishy. HH
During the Motherwell game you could see how frustrated Brendan was getting with Craig Gordon each time he launched a poor kick out or clearance into the stands….
Neil Lennon on Radio Shortbread
So the Huns seemingly have £750K plus another instalment of the same to buy someone I’ve never heard of.
Does this herald the opening of the fables war chest? Or are they flogging Tavernier to pay for him?
Rangers, if they sign Joe Garner, could that be considered a compliment to Celtic…?
Robinbhoy…
Is that Aesop’s fabled warchest?…
Listening to the Clyde phone in (I know, but reckon more on here do than let on) I’m still waiting for someone to comment on the easy start to the season the monkeys have had!
BT… Will you be in the BV on Wednesday as I might pop in, still not ready to go in amongst a crowd with the shoulder the way it is.
Hope ‘those’, and they know who they are, who constantly traduce the abilities of DD, PL and the Board of Directors, are aware of the the comments from Brendan on the support he has received.
Ronny Delia said something similar – so just where is the hard evidence that managers and squads are starved of resources and backing?
The Great Britian Olympic Team has improved performance EVERY year since 2000, due to massive investment from the National Lottery, and is now world class.
Celtic get next to nothing in TV money and consequently have to raise every penny that they spend.
So let’s hear all the wonderful ideas that the malcontents surely must have, when they criticize day and daily – “sack the boatd” LOL – LOL – LOL
Why would you spend a massive amount of time practicing something that has little chance of happening.
Would that time not be better spent on corners, for and against, set pieces, team shape etc.
Not sure what odds on the tie going to penalties is but you need two identical scores plus no scoring in extra time.
I would hazard a guess of around 20/1.
By all means finish a session with pens but more important to practice elements to give you a better chance to finish tie in regulation time.
MATS NILLOC @6:42
If the malcontents do in fact reply – their only answer could be that both Brendan and Ronny are liars and are colluding with DD,PL and the board – do they really believe that?
The tragedy of hun refs like Thomson on saturday is the aftermath that will allow him to continue to referee with his prejudices.
The mssm have gone in to their hear no evil see no evil stance.
If the media shone a spotlight on his refusal to administer the rules properly on saturday and on many previous occasions plus his glaring inconsistencies then his game would change.
The sf’s ingrained bias welcomes the fact that they are assisted by a press with the same biased viewpoint and never make refs accountable.
His admission that he was wrong when not awarding a blatant penalty in 2009 to Maloney against the old rangers was phony and his sleekit smile said it all as it helped him attain his desired result.
Likewise his sending off of Efe for conceding a penalty and using strictest interpretation of the law in cup game while in the same season awarding us a penalty for foul on Griff by Dons player but deciding a more obvious foul did not merit red.
This guy is a cheat but unfortunately has the tacit approval of most of Scotland and football authorities..
I expect him to be consistent with his bias this season with no reprisal.
To my mind, there can be absolutely no doubt that Dorus de Vries was brought in to replace Craig Gordon as Celtic’s No 1 goalkeeper. It won’t happen instantly, but it will happen in a matter of 2 or 3 weeks. He will be between the sticks for our first CL/EL group game. I expect to see him making his debut v Aberdeen.
Nothing surer.
How much did we pay for Dorus de Vries ?
flying cats depends how you read it….. ?

Mrs NBRS isn’t for watching fitba the night,so
I’m being sent upstairs to watch my favourite
bad bhoy Diego Costa,a nasty do anything to
win type….all great Celtic side’s had one or two
like that.
Bada Bing
No disrespect at this end, the city trader knows best :-)
Auld Tam
Craig Gordon No 1, in 4 weeks time Craig will still be number 1 :-)
Oh!! Goodnight Timland.
TET, I saw a figure of 400k mentioned.
GFTB –
We’ll soon find out either way.
I just don’t believe the Dutchman would have come north to play second fiddle. I would imagine Brendan told him what he wanted to hear, without cast-iron guarantees of course.
Nye Bevans
9/4 Chelsea with both teams scoring, easy dough
Good night to your good self
Please Celtic, no away goals conceded on Wed night will give us a great chance of getting through, as I now think we are capable of getting goals away from home.If we start the game correctly patiently with a good tempo I think we can score at least two, if we get them early and the crowd get going we could finish the tie here.
No I do not underestimate any team at this stage, just feel we are more than capable.
NYE BEVANS’ REBEL SOLDIER –
I’ve bet Chelsea to win 3-1
Also bet 3-1 + Costa first scorer
AULD TAM…
I agree with you on Dorus de Vries, I don’t think Brendan would bring a player in to sit on a bench, he will only buy to strengthen the team.
Are you missing the Gold Coast?
Auld Tam
You could be right, by all accounts Brendan wanted him at Liverpool so Brendan obviously is a big fan after working with him at Swansea
regarding Craig Thomson and the other “honest” refs we have. BR said he provides analysis of ref performance and coaches the team on likely behaviors of refs – i.e. who is strict , who allows free flowing play, who is headmaster like etc… He is in for a big surprise. Craig Thomson and others , are very clever at being unpredictable.
The ONLY way we can improve the refereeing in this country is for the clubs to make a stronger stance and increase accountability – Craig Thomsons performance last week was quite astonishing given his history of dishing out red card. He is there to protect players safety and failed to administer basic rules to the sevco player.
I’m fed up complaining – i want PL to visibly show that he is working with the SPL/SPFL etc to help improve this.
We need to be taking a much stronger stance!

The Board have financially backed Brendan because he sought those assurances prior to committing to a contract, and to be fair the board have backed him as Brendan has publicly stated
Ronny Deila was not afforded the same budget and I am sure he was requested to select possible signings from a pre-prepared list
Neil Lennon was also frustrated by his budget
The Board have decided to spend because the huns are back and finishing second this season or next would be unforgivable
If the Board had real balls and European ambition we would have spent serious money after Seville
If you can’t see that your kidding yourself
You can’t compare National Lottery funding of UK athletes to professional football – totally different animals
Paul67 –
I beg to differ. You CAN overdo penalty practice.
You should only practice one session of penalties until you are comfortable, then leave it until the next day or session. You have to gauge it so that when the next practice session comes round, you are looking forward to it, rather than thinking, here we go again.
SIPSINI –
I miss the climate and some good friends and work colleagues. Still keep in touch with a few.
Enjoying retirement with my missus and our first grandchild, and watching Celtic with my sons, all of which serve to remind me exactly why I came back, so no regrets.
Thanks for asking.
Corky
Thanks, a bargin if he is as good as BR says he is.

STEBHOY –
The big problem with getting other clubs to take a stance against pro-Rangers refs is that every other club doesn’t see them as pro-rangers. They see them as pro-Celtic-and-Rangers. That will never change unfortunately.
THE EXILED TIM. The fee I heard for our new keeper was £400000.Well the tribute act who are supposedly skint can come up with 1.5 million for a Preston North End Striker.I have heard Celtic are in talks with a midfield player on a pay per play contract also the said player if he signs will be allowed time to sit his coaching badges the wages im told are substantial and dependent on us reaching the Champions league proper and he is not German and does not play for Man Utd.im told that is a smoke screen.Well in order to see if it is kosher we will have to beat the Israeli team over two legs. H.H.
JFH
Gonna share the name then :-)
HH
Thanks btw
Sipsini
I also listen to SSB religiously, really liked Jim Delahunt and Gerry McCullough is quite good, DJ, Shug and the other cheer leaders are there to earn easy money, wish I could talk shoite and get paid for it
Auld Tam….. Been off work on holiday for last couple of weeks and my daughter has been watching “wanted down under” (?) about emigrating to Australia, I said no way would I leave my family for money, sun or whatever else it offers, the wee blade replied “dad, you don’t even enjoy going to Spain for a week” she knows me well
FAN-A-TIC
I really enjoyed reading that you are 100% spot-on sir.
Should be posted on every new article just to remind a few what were really up against.
I remember when Magnus Hedman was signed to be Celtic’s Number One.
JFH
It’s Paul Lambert innit?!?
