Premiership takes familiar shape with a green exception

517

It was good to get our business out of the way on Friday night before what turned out to be an interesting weekend, as the Scottish Premiership adopted a familiar look. Aberdeen did well to come from behind away to Ross County. They will not challenge for top spot, but their grip on second place looks to be in rude health.

The major questions is, is there a genuine challenge from Hibs for the remaining European spots? Their win at Ibrox, also coming from behind, suggests Neil Lennon has instilled an important ingredient of success: attitude. Not every opponent will be as defensively porous as Newco. Nor will they always face a self-defeating pantomime of a stadium.

The test for Neil will come when his team faces disciplined defensive formations – like Ross County, the only side who have prevented Hibs from scoring this season.

St Johnstone are the only other team on full points, however, they have the benefit of starting the season earlier than those who didn’t have European football, so I wouldn’t read too much into their wins against Motherwell and Kilmarnock. Their 0-3 League Cup tanking at home to Partick Thistle may be more indicative of the season ahead.

Sorry for late reply but I was called away.

I refuse to believe that the intentions of every opposition MP at Holyrood are good.

Me too, but in this case, James Kelly attended the fans meeting, developed the repeal movement and delivered on the repeal. All those who voted the OBaF Act down did a good thing and their various motivations can get a bye for now.

every single SNP MSP voted loyally to retain their flawed and heavily criticised demeaning snobbish Act. Not one voiced a word of dissent, nor conceded any flaw in what they were doing. They deserve the criticism as apparatchiks and lobby fodder, because that is what they were.

Would strict liability be such a bad thing.

Yes it would. And it would surpass the OBaF legislation in its stupidity as an engine for whataboutery complaints and sabotage. We already have Ibrox fans on here sowing dissent and some of ours on their website. Now, if a government were stupid enough to incentivise them for causing discord at the ground of their hated opponents…..

Just imagine THEMS being held liable for the moronic conduct of THEIR support. And before you jump in. It is questionable if those respsonsible for such legislation would care to enforce it.Would strict liability be such a bad thing.

My response is, I hope, considered. THeMS would be held as accountable as OURS. There is no appetite for discriminating amongst football clubs, especially the two largest Glasgow clubs. The only fan base that would escape scrutiny would be the Tartan Army (scrutiny from Holyrood, I mean, since UFA feel quite free to fine them).

As for your point about not implementing their legislation, well they did with OBaF. Why would they waste Parliamentary time with a legislation they had no intention to enforce? The idea that it would be magically deterrent is fanciful. It would be a perverse incentive as It would give people a reason to cause trouble as false flags.

  2. Can’t for the life of me understand ,why celtic don’t get guys in to ensure we reach the CL group stages . This happens every year , one day the gamble won’t pay off . Imho we are not as fluent a team as last season . No Patrick Roberts a major factor ,along with the stewart Armstrong problem , which has gone on too long , he has had plenty time to digest the offer ,and is only now hanging about to decide which one of the minions down south he wants to go too . The injuries have no doubt also had an effect , but one thing , if we perform on Wednesday as we did on Friday , we will be in trouble . BR said he wanted to strengthen the team . He hasn’t, as far as I,m concerned ,I only hope he is in sole command of team affairs , and isn’t getting hindered from outwith the footballing side , as has been the norm over previous years .

    A grotesque stereotype.

Morningside is Edinburgh South – staunchly Labour you know. From 2015 to 2017 Ian Murray was the only Labour Party MP representing a Scottish constituency in the House of Commons.

The curtain twitchers you refer to are, most likely, Tories voters – try chekin’ the windaes Shettleston, neebs….

Grotesque- don’t think so! Stereotype- definitely – it was meant to convey an are where curtain twitching and Holy Willie attitudes prevailed and that district of edinburgh served as a Music Hall shorthand for such attributes for many years. Do you have family there or reside there? or have they all become Venetian Blind twitchers now because of fashionable Home Improvement programmes?

edinburgh South is a huge constituency and includes a lot more than Morningside. I went to the trouble of checking the Ward councillors for a more accurate picture and only 1 of the 4 elected from there was a Labour Party councillor.

Mind you, Shettleston now has a Tory Councillor just like Morningside has, so maybe you are on to something. Though it might well be something truly grotesque.

Another knee jerk post. Listen to what Brendan Rodgers says, it’s instructive.

  6. Life at Celtic can be like living in a goldfish bowl. There’s something fishy about Club 1872 and their off the scales statements. Their latest statement is absolute codswallop and was filleted with reel fin lies.

On another note I see that Club 1872 have a very able Director called Mrs Fawkes.

Pedro’s a Celt and a Mrs Fawkes is involved in the Shell Company, Club 1872.

She has a real flare for the job.

Please let them put out another statement soon…

You missed my smiley from the cut & paste – that was the most crucial part of my post as my tongue was firmly in cheek! Maybe the humour was not so obvious.

I’m very familiar with the politics of the area as I live here. Not sure I’ve ever seen a curtain twitch though. The music hall era died some time ago over here. The stereotype seems outdated based on my personal experience of the people who are warm, friendly and community spirited. No doubt it was different 40 years ago.

Ian Murray is an excellent MP for the area and I’m sure will keep the keep the Red Flag of Morningside flying high…

Nothing kneejerk about it . What was to disagree with . Do you not think we will have to play better than we did on Friday . Would you not like to see wee paddy signed up in time to help us into the group stages , would you not like to see SA resigned and raring to go and play the way we know he can . Although Maybe I’m a bit way off to think that peter has asked Brendan to cool it with his wants , that doesn’t happen right .

  13. I just watched highlights of our last 2 ties against Astana and their last round ties against Legia.

They are strong in aerial attack and pacy counter attack but do not seem so good on defensive headers. Against Legia they won the home leg 3:1 with a goal from a bout of head tennis where their players won all their aerial challenges, a 2nd from a long range shot through a crowded defence and a 3rd which was a breakaway when Legia were caught upfield looking, rather naively, for an equaliser. The Legia keeper, too, seemed unusually poor for a club with their record for developing good keepers. In the 2nd leg in Warsaw, they defended in depth and ran all day but they gave up a dangerous amount of ball possession, but despite losing a headed goal, they held out as Legia became impatient and desperate.

They looked strong and fit with decent counter attack pace.

This time, though, we play them at home and Nir might not be under as much aerial pressure as he will be in the return in Kazakhstan. The question is whether we have the power and trickery to get past them since we only have Lustig and Simunovic with aerial presence.

I would like a 2:0 lead to take over there. Might need a bit of trickery and magic from Tom Rogic to get past a solid, orthodox, athletic team

  14. SFTB,

I know we have had jousts before.

Do you think Stuart will re-sign?

Respect Bro, you have went through a lot of Heartache, yer analysis of Fitba has Always been Good.

    God Bless Amazin’ Celt.

Stuart is an incredible player in the making.

I find this difficult to Understand.

  15. Petec

    Hard to tell with Stuart.

Brendan wants to keep him and Stuart was happy to play here before.

But… I am sure he knows he could double his wages and more if he moved to an PL mid or lower table team and he would find a squad place there.

Best solution for me is Stuart to stay one more year with us and we agree a moderate rather than an expensive transfer trigger fee.

If he wants to go – he will go but Stuart played well against Killie and, so long as he plays well in the two Astana ties, Celtic will survive his decision- whichever way he jumps.

  16. SFTB,

    This W0rld is MAD.

An Ideal World he would stay.

We both know he is offski, very disappointed about that.
