Premiership takes familiar shape with a green exception

517

It was good to get our business out of the way on Friday night before what turned out to be an interesting weekend, as the Scottish Premiership adopted a familiar look. Aberdeen did well to come from behind away to Ross County. They will not challenge for top spot, but their grip on second place looks to be in rude health.

The major questions is, is there a genuine challenge from Hibs for the remaining European spots? Their win at Ibrox, also coming from behind, suggests Neil Lennon has instilled an important ingredient of success: attitude. Not every opponent will be as defensively porous as Newco. Nor will they always face a self-defeating pantomime of a stadium.

The test for Neil will come when his team faces disciplined defensive formations – like Ross County, the only side who have prevented Hibs from scoring this season.

St Johnstone are the only other team on full points, however, they have the benefit of starting the season earlier than those who didn’t have European football, so I wouldn’t read too much into their wins against Motherwell and Kilmarnock. Their 0-3 League Cup tanking at home to Partick Thistle may be more indicative of the season ahead.

Mind’s eye,Pat hits it and starts celebrating.

Wtf,saved, how did he get to that? Blooter, starts celebrating again.

Bassa!!! Well, yur no’ stopping this! Ave it!

Not often a player can celebrate a goal three times.

(Though I know people who can laugh three times at the same telling of a joke..)

  2. My friends in Celtic,

Interesting . Certain foorballing figures are more liable to be called by their first ( Christian ) name.

eg. Charlie ( Nicholas ). As a pundit he has had many anomalies. In particular, loved his confusion in mentioning ,”the player had just tried a Ribena”. Of course ( or assuming ) he meant Rabona.

Anyway Charlie has come to his senses. Even he thinks Pedro and the huns are useless. In fact he questioned; “He ( as in Pedro ” ) thinks he owns our country ”

Foe Charlie that is a mega observation. Hopefully he is now back in the fold.

    HH to all.

PS : Tomorrow . No distractions. 100% support for our team .

  6. I’ve long harboured the (widely-held) view that BBC Shortbread is a bastion on hurting hundom, but I’ve never got round to analysing whether or not my view is merely visceral.

So I thought I’d do a wee bit of analysis this week, to test my suspicions.

One of the impressions I’ve often garnered, when trying to grab a quick look at Scottish news coverage on the BBC Scotland website, has been that it’s sometimes difficult to find pieces they are carrying about Celtic – except via the Sport/Scotland weblink.

So, yesterday, I began studying the bbc.co.uk/news/scotland/glasgow_and_west web page.

I noticed that, although the summary of stories beneath the Sport> link at the foot of the ‘Glasgow & West’ tab had numerous links to Scottish football stories (involving ‘West of Scotland’ teams), there was not one mention of Celtic.

And it’s happening again today: references aplenty to other clubs (Hamilton, Motherwell, Dumbarton, Kilmarnock, St Mirren and – of course – Rangers), not to mention gratuitous references of someone merely identified in the headline as ‘Lennon’.

In other words, there’s not one, single mention of the Scottish champions who happen to have a massively important (to them and, vicariously, Scottish football) Champions League qualifier.

I intend to keep a further eye on this web section for the rest of the week, just to see how much hurting is really going on …

  9. TGM,

As it’s about ‘politics’ with organisations like the Imperial Bears. Indeed some on here would appear to share common ground with the PUL Action Group…

    “Imperial Bears”

The PUL Community in the United Kingdom have received a timely reminder of the perilous position we find ourselves in. The ‘silent majority’ can no longer afford to remain silent. It is time for each and every member of our community to step up to the plate and defend the civil liberties that our forefathers fought for. The civil liberties that our enemies, ironically, use against us!

    (wait for it)

The SNP have realised that in order to turn their obsession of independence into a reality they would need the political landscape in Scotland to mirror that of Ulster. The rise of Sinn Fein in Ulster has very little to do with support for a united Ireland, and more to do with the actions and inactions of the unionist electorate. A split unionist vote and apathy are leaving the door ajar for opportunists.

To force the door open, the SNP, who were always considered as a party of Protestant people, courted the support of the Catholic community in Scotland. This step completed the ‘Ulsterisation’ of Scottish politics, and allowed the SNP administration to embark on a blatant sectarian ostracisation of the PUL community…

…This statement seems to be backed up by the fact that a dossier with 100 individuals committing crimes against the PUL community was handed over to Police Scotland over 12 months ago. The dossier included the names and addresses of the perpetrators, meaning that FOCUS could smash their doors in at 5am and arrest them. To this date, not one arrest has been made relating to these serious, religiously aggravated hate crimes. I personally wrote to Nicola Sturgeon, every media outlet in Scotland, and the Chief Constable of Police Scotland to complain about this inaction, and have not yet received a reply from anyone, other than an acknowledgement from Holyrood that correspondence had been received but it was not a matter for them!”

    TGM,

You’ll note that the Police and authorities already know who these lunatics are (they are writing to them). A dangerous fear ridden, extreme group who are exploiting Sevco’s weaknesses to spread their toxic politics.

    IMO

  10. Grateful for any tips where to watch the return leg against Astana next week in Albufera (never been before) in the unlikely chance I get a couple of free hours from the kids. much appreciated,

  11. Beatbhoy,

    Query re PUL-Action Group

“PUL is a type of laminated fabric. PUL stands for Polyurethane Laminate. It can be pronouced either P-U-L or “pull”. Our PUL Fabric is waterproof, so it is ideal for the outside of cloth diapers and diaper covers.”

Maybe that explains all the greetin to the Polis ? :)

…To be honest I think PUL refers to Protestant, Unionist, Loyalist, I’m not sure how that includes Presbyterians, Quakers, Mormans, Jews,Moslems, Agnotics,Atheists etc don’t even mention RC’s etc:))

  16. Interesting wee snippet I heard this morning regarding the replacement of all the cladding at ibrokes. A company called skyform I believe are contracted to carry out this work as part of the govan regeneration project. Have been told the contract is in excess of £2.5m…….state aid anyone.

Also just looking at willie vass pictures from Saturday and I see the above company logo splashed all over the place………..?

  17. Clogher Celt

    Of the Agnostic Society?

No, thanks. Not since I had the dream in which a deceased Atheist friend appeared to me.

When he told me he was in Heaven, I asked if there was a Celtic Park in Paradise.

“Well, I’ve got good and bad news for you on that”

I asked him for the good news. “Yes, there’s a Celtic Park here”

    So what’s the bad news?

“You’ve got a ticket for tomorrow night.”.

  18. Here’s one for those of you who know something about business and finance. I normally have a wee glance at the Celtic share price each day in the Herald. Those of you who do the same will know that there tends to be little change in it from day to day. At the start of the year, if I remember correctly, it was a fairy steady 75p roughly. However, over the last two months or so it has increased fairly steadily. Yesterday it rose to 119.5p an increase of 5.5p on the day.

Can any of our experts tell me if this is in some way significant or does it just show that investors are happy with the way the Club is being run?

  19. Beatbhoy,

I was at a funeral in Glasgow this year and the Priest said that going to Heaven was like walking down the Tunnel at Celtic Park and seeing all your loved ones on the pitch waiting for you with smiles on their faces.

    A nice thought :)

    Till Later

  20. Not an expert but suggest the share price is on the rise simply because demand for and away exceeds supply.

    That’ll be £150.00 plus VAT.

    :-)
