Priceless Maeda

195

I had a conversation a week ago along the lines of, “Daizen gives us lots of running, but not much else.” A player with speed as his most potent weapon is stifled against Scottish opposition.

Putting the ball in the net is the best counter to that concern. A player who produces a hat trick when his team mates most need him is priceless.

More of the same, Daizen.

Love Maeda for all his technical shortcomings. If all our players had his heart we’d be cruising this league.

  2. We need the whole team to show the same commitment, hard work will always beat class when class doesnt work hard enough, well done Maeda.

  3. Good to see a bit of praise for Daizen.

He has his faults, but if all the team worked as hard as him, we wouldn’t be in the mess we are.

Also, no surprises to see Mikey J do so well.

When he is up against two deep sitting banks of 4, he is ineffective but when the game is more open or we counter attack he is a guy we should keep, and IMHO better than Palma.

  4. Priceless?

I’m sure there is a price tag on the shirt somewhere Paul.

    Somebody matches it…..he’s gone

And at the speed he can run, you wont see him for dust…

Quite a few goals now in the last four games from the far-side winger coming in at the back post, which is good to see – definitely one of our big strengths in Ange’s two seasons. Obviously not going to get as many without Abada and Jota, but will certainly help if we can keep sticking in a few of these.

Defence really scary at times. Big save from Joe at 2-2.

The downgrading of the team shows up even more when you are missing some key players.

Oldfirm class in everything we do…..

  6. Good result and not a bad performance but yesterday illustrated once again what a disaster our summer recruitment was. Where were all the projects, two on the bench, the rest have somehow disappeared.

How bad must Holm be in training not even to come on as a sub?

The prospect, no pun intended, of playing against the Huns without Callum is very worrying.

  7. When it comes 4 4 2 against them or even 4 5 1 stifle the game and be combative. They aren’t good, they are physical organised and get every refereeing decision to keep them in games or ahead.

  9. Wednesday 11th

I received a large amount of birthday cards today. Some from people I do not know. In particular a Mass bouquet with fifty Masses on it from Mrs Burns from Sevastopol Street. We all know of her, she never forgets us and we shan’t forget her, bless her dear heart.

I also received a card from reporter Brendan O Cathaoir, which indeed was thoughtful. I received a letter from a friend, and from a student in America whom I don’t know, but again it’s good to know that people are thinking of you. There were some smuggled letters as well from my friends and comrades.

I am the same weight today and have no complaints medically. Now and again I am struck by the natural desire to eat but the desire to see an end to my comrades’ plight and the liberation of my people is overwhelmingly greater.

The doctor will be taking a blood test tomorrow. It seems that Dr Ross has disappeared and Dr Emerson is back…

Again, there has been nothing outstanding today except that I took a bath this morning. I have also been thinking of my family and hoping that they are not suffering too much.

I was trying to piece together a quote from James Connolly today which I’m ashamed that I did not succeed in doing but I’ll paraphrase the meagre few lines I can remember.

They go something like this: a man who is bubbling over with enthusiasm (or patriotism) for his country, who walks through the streets among his people, their degradation, poverty, and suffering, and who (for want of the right words) does nothing, is, in my mind, a fraud; for Ireland distinct from its people is but a mass of chemical elements.

Perhaps the stark poverty of Dublin in 1913 does not exist today, but then again, in modern day comparison to living standards in other places through the world, it could indeed be said to be the same if not worse both North and South. Indeed, one thing has not changed, that is the economic, cultural and physical oppression of the same Irish people…

Even should there not be 100,000 unemployed in the North, their pittance of a wage would look shame in the company of those whose wage and profit is enormous, the privileged and capitalist class who sleep upon the people’s wounds, and sweat, and toils.

Total equality and fraternity cannot and never will be gained whilst these parasites dominate and rule the lives of a nation. There is no equality in a society that stands upon the economic and political bog if only the strongest make it good or survive. Compare the lives, comforts, habits, wealth of all those political conmen (who allegedly are concerned for us, the people) with that of the wretchedly deprived and oppressed.

Compare it in any decade in history, compare it tomorrow, in the future, and it will mock you. Yet our perennial blindness continues. There are no luxuries in the H-Blocks. But there is true concern for the Irish people.

As we know Daizen is played as a number 9 with Japan. He knows the way to goal…..

  11. Delighted to see Daizen get his goals yesterday. Being honest, he could possibly have had a few more.

Defence remains a real problem. Be nice to keep a clean sheet or two

The only source that i have seen to report it as ” fact ” is the Record.

Just another squirrel among many, including the whole “Celtic and DD are focused on a close season clearout/ rebuild” stuff , to distract us from the fact that this season , while undoubtedly much more troublesome than it probably ought to have been, is far , far from over.

We are of course right in the two major competitions.

There are many who want us just to consider this season a write-off and hand the League ( and the Scottish Cup ) to you know who.

  14. daizen has played 16 times for japan and scored 3 goals.

so 1 goal every 5 games.

at celtic he inow has 100 games and 26 goals, so 1 in 4.

  15. and if it was not obvious already, he is definately a samurai

Maeda clan (前田氏, Maeda-shi) was a Japanese samurai clan who occupied most of the Hokuriku region of central Honshū from the end of the Sengoku period through the Meiji Restoration of 1868. The Maeda claimed descent from the Sugawara clan through Sugawara no Kiyotomo and Sugawara no Michizane in the eighth and ninth centuries; however, the line of descent is uncertain. The Maeda rose to prominence as daimyō of Kaga Domain under the Edo period Tokugawa shogunate, which was second only to the Tokugawa clan in kokudaka (land value).

Absolutely spot on. Don’t forget the manager stated more than once that he “signed” off all of the transfers. I either or both are no better than the duo we had yesterday then his judgement must be seriously called into question…..

  21. !!Bada Bing!! on

Good to see 3 wide players doing well yesterday, Kuhn surprised everyone I think, quick, direct, beating his man,Maeda, and Wee Jamesie, showing there’s still a bit left in the tank. With the midfield not functioning, McGregor possibly out for the season, we will need to get the ball forward earlier, and try to pick up second balls.

  22. Our right flank was functioning better ,AJ attacking and crossing improved considerably and for me Kuhn was our best player.

Kuhn has a deft movement inside with very good close ball control.

We can all see the issues at centre back , we desperately need CCV back , or the league title becomes more challenging.

Spells yesterday were it was quite worrying in between spells where we played some decent stuff

  23. Celtic PLC should be praised for the investment they are making in building Barrowfield, creating work for the construction sector in the short term and facilities for the players of the future in the long term. I hope those facilities include kitchens and eating areas to make sure our kids get good scottish breakfasts and rolls n sausage etcetera. In addition kids should learn how to cook themselves in those kitchens and to learn about the world of food. It’s the only way in a society to avoid the slide into drink and drugs. The Celtic team may be pedestrian at the moment but this advance at Barrowfield is a fantastic opportunity for the club. Food is of course fundamental to the history of Celtic as the club started to raise funds to give everybody a healthy meal. God Bless Saint Brendan.

Aye, many’s the time I’ve related those exact facts to those lucky enough to be sitting beside me at the ground…

    ;-)

  25. we won the league in 86 with McGrain (36) , Aitken, McGugan and Whyte. Danny was on the way out, i always felt Aitken was a midfielder, McGugan really wasn’t good although I liked his attitude, Whyte was decent at CH later but not LB. Went on a run of 8 wins after 4-4 with huns.

The bonus for us then was that we had an outstanding midfield 3 and 2 top class CFs. Bang average winger to supply. The 2 experienced defenders dragged Whyte and McGugan along

If we need to do a run like that now , the CHs and midfield need to get more connected. I think it is only this season we appreciate fully how brave CCV and Starfelt were in the last 2 years in open play. Also brilliant on headers in our box.

Welsh and Scales don’t have that and we can’t have both in the team. If CCV and Nawrocki are injured then Lagerbielke deserves a chance next week. We kept him off a nice loan to Italy just for this situation.

Scales deserves a break as he is being caught by balls over the top, giving away the ball and out of position every week now. He looked frazzled mentally yesterday.

If McGregor is out, Iwata keeps the shirt but needs to be more aggressive in passing and in contact. O’Reilly needs a rest but we seem to have no back up. Can Holm not play there?

Left mid seems to be Bernardo’s unless we go 442 and we seem to have Kelly as back up now

    wibble……

  26. Should our spanish inquisition with the sfa go against us what is our net step, and if its CAS, what are the repercussions the sfa can impose on us

  27. RimTimTim – Are you a chef ? 😀 That’s a very good idea – I’m sure the youngsters have a lot of spare time when they’re not training.

Great to see Maeda get his goals yesterday. I hope it gives him the confidence he is missing in front of goal. I’d be surprised if Brendan holds on the him in the Summer – he is the hardest working player we have on the pitch, but his distribution and finishing leave a lot to be desired.

Also good to see Kuhn play well. There were many on here who did not want to ever see him in a Celtic shirt again. Hopefully he kicks on from here and establishes himself in the team. With him and Palma on song we have great wide options to give Kyogo more opportunities. James Forrest looks like he wants a run in the team with his showing as well. We’re getting better and peaking at the right time in the season – fully expect us to win the league and probably the cup as well.
