Profitable transfer fantasies

761

Neil Lennon did us all a favour yesterday by dismissing rumours that he was targeting a striker from Vitoria Guimaraes as nonsense this early in the transfer window. The guidelines are set for your summer ahead. As well as being nonsense, though, it is also profitable news fodder; just think of the amount of advertising which has been wrapped around this story.

What does this teach us? I reckon that the least informed contributions left on the CQN comments page are about as reliable as what passes for mainstream ‘news’. There is a good possibility that even the player didn’t know Celtic’s position on him until it was reported yesterday.

Celtic will be trailing up to 30 players at any point in time, all of whom will have passed one level of scrutiny, but at least 20 of whom would never pass all levels, even if a deal was possible. When players are being scrutinised the position of the club will always be to show courteous interest in proceedings. You and I know what this really amounts to.

    Thanks for the offer.

When we left Ireland, it was passed to someone else.

I must admit I didn’t anticipate that we would have had so many animals a s we do now, but, the Mrs is a strong woman, and being not so strong, she always wins, hey ho….

We are going to build kennels later in the year, and are hoping to finance them by breeding wee daft dugs, the Spanish love them, and scottish fold cat’s, just can’t find a reliable breeder to source a proper tom, but we will.

Same as you, traveling is a problem.

Thanks again for the offer, but I’m sure we will manage, no offence, there are much more in need.

  5. Re transfer success with forwards and the rest of the team. In the SPL with the packed defences we face and our general emphasis on having a good first touch and having to be brave on the ball : it is difficult to plough a heap of cash on 1 forward.

We cannot sign ‘runners’ as they run into a packed defence , Harold and K. Miller. The best goal KM scored was against Benfica on the break, the rest of the time the ball bounced off his shinpads, a la Tony C.

Our forwards have to put up with being kicked and grappled before the ball arrives and Micu for example ways beats the first defender but he is not used to being jibbed by the second guy , it would be a gamble to buy him but I believe a pre-season with us and another loan he could run rings around SPL defences. However NL has deployed a rotating forward 3 , 2 wide 1 withdrawn under the covers of the MSM and KC and GH often play the withdrawn role, so I believe that the tactics don’t suit Micu anymore.

Young Tony Watt if he fills out will be able to roll most SPL defenders but I dectected that he is a bit of a one trick pony with the left shoulder dip, stand the defender up and break right quickly … he was getting read too easily towards the end of the season.

Stokes and Hoops first picks next season, no one else good enough in the SPL to sign , Victor needs at least 2 years with us before a move …. expect strategic multiple replacements rather than 1 big signing , those days are gone.

I am expecting young Rogic to be superb if we get him fit and toughened up

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

My sense is that JR is a good bloke, real trier , a runner though whose game would thwarted playing for us against deep lying defences , his first touch is not good enough. So relax he is not good enough.

  8. Henke joined us at about the same age as JR is just now.

Who knows what a player will develop in to.

JR at whatever is a no brainer imo.

he scores goals in the spl, and who knows what he can become, Henke did it, nobody thought he was good enough, Celtic took a gamble on him, and look what happened.

Prior to Henrik joining he managed to play in the World Cup 3rd 4th play off or is this Pinot rewiring my brain?

With respect, where were all the clubs that were willing to take him on ?

Aye, he had a trick or two, but he never set the heather on fire.

He did not show for us till a good time later.

Football is a funny game, tis all about ass holes, we all have one, but it’s down to the man at the top who will eventually sign who ever.

I would buy him in a second, he will be a star with us given the chance IMO,

  12. i believe everyone involved with rangers currently are glorified asset strippers

they saw a club in trouble and and swooped in for the kill

like all the vultures involved with portsmouth over the years

i would say that its morally wrong only for the institution involved is rangers, a bigoted, poisoned sectarian club

these asset strippers will either finish off the club or leave it division 3 material for generation

and who said vulture capitalist asset stripper are all bad

in this case, men i salute ye

A couple of weeks ago TSD said that he read in Bobby sands writings that Bobbyhad denounced Reagan’s Star wars project.naturally I pointed out to him that the said programme was;nt announced until 1983 and as the world knowsBobby died in ’81

Tonight I give him a wee reminder and abracadabra he disappeared and it seems like his alter ego has done the same

  16. All this talk about Jonny Russell, and whether we go for/get him, personally, I’ve always been more impressed with Gary Mackay-Steven. If Russell goes elsewhere, good luck to him, I wish him well, but I’d be more gutted if GMS slipped from our grasp.

TSD see you in 2weeks thats how long it took you to raise your ugly head the last time I skelped your ar@e

  18. Mackay-Steven is a talented guy, but put him in the Hoops and I would fear for his safety on the pitch. Cluggers would have carte blanche :O(…

  19. TET

Great to have a football debate .. rather than Sevco crap …

I remember watching the World Cup 94 (?) against Brasil (semi or 4td / 4th) – obviously not that well- and the Swedes had Henrik hanging around the right wing not doing a lot , however his first touch with both feet was really good and game awareness first class.

Celtic toughened Henrik up and turned him into a top class striker (your point) but the raw material was there.

On the other hand , young Russell out of about 10 games I have witnessed you would not known he was on the pitch , his wee blond mate on the wing is much better but sadly injury prone.

If JR does sign then the higher power NL will on this occassion have gone against my instinct, he doesn’t often … good debate though better than Christ Alloa have a plastic pitch!
