PSG have yet to be asked questions

494

Friday night is the new Saturday afternoon, apparently. Celtic, Paris Saint-Germain and Anderlecht all play tomorrow evening. Only Bayern Munich from our Champions League group have a weekend game; on Saturday, so there will be little advantage gained from the earlier domestic kick-off.

PSG are away to Metz, near the German border. Whereas PSG are top of Ligue 1, having won all their games, Metz are anchored at the bottom, the only team yet to take a point. This game is a perfect opportunity for PSG to rest players who have been busy on international duty, before the trip to Glasgow. Celtic’s scouts will be able to observe the shape of their forthcoming opponents, but the intensity of the game will not come close to what we see at Celtic Park.

Immediately before the international break, PSG beat Saint Etienne 3-0 in Paris. It is one measure of a good team to win comfortably even when not playing well. PSG achieved this against Le Verts, but there was encouragement for Brendan Rodgers in this game. This was also the only league game PSG have played against a team who have not lost at least half of their matches so far.

Without having to go through the trauma of Champions League qualifiers, the notion persists that PSG have yet to be asked questions this season. They may be able to revel in the joys of having signed two exciting new strikers, but great teams are made of durable cohesion, not striking bling.

  1. MACJAY1 FOR NEIL LENNON on 7TH SEPTEMBER 2017 1:09 PM

    Leave it to the Board.

Our professionals know what they are doing and don`t need the advice of the uninformed but opinionated CQN punter.

    #####

”Celtic majority shareholder Dermot Desmond admits he misses the city rivalry with Rangers in the Scottish Premier League.

Rangers are playing in Division Three following a summer financial meltdown, leaving Celtic to dominate the SPL.

“For us, it’s disappointing that they’re not there,” Desmond told BBC Sport.

“But that was a decision by the various clubs, a decision by the various leagues and we accept those decisions.”

The only chance of an Old Firm derby this season will come in knock-out competitions, with the next possibility coming in Thursday’s draw for the quarter-finals of the Scottish Communities League Cup.

Desmond was talking the day after Celtic ended their long wait for an away win in the group stages of the Champions League with a 3-2 victory over Spartak Moscow.

And he would have relished the continued domestic competition with Rangers at a time when he believes manager Neil Lennon has created a particularly strong squad.

“Rangers is a great football club, it has a great history and it’s unfortunate that they have been relegated,” said the Irish businessman.

“We would certainly like to contest with them every week – we believe we’ve got a better team and a better management structure.

“Rangers is a fantastic football club, it is one of the greatest football clubs in Great Britain, we’ve got to acknowledge that. But we can only look after ourselves.”

Desmond is sure that the Ibrox club will eventually return to Scotland’s top flight and believes they are needed there for the size of their support alone.”

I don’t know any REAL Celtic fans who share The Great Desmondo’s view of the huns.

Yet he is the man who, de facto, owns and controls the Club. And Peter Lawwell is doing his bidding, whatever it might be.

One point from James Foresst’s piece on the 2012 letter to the SFA, is around release of the letter.

I could very easily see this as being something which was released by the SFA, but it matters not. If they have been forced into a corner behind the scenes, to indeed conduct this enquiry, it is easier for them to put the blame on Celtic as to the reason they are going to fold to this.

Either way, it will be because they are being forced to, and the letter if nothing else shows the Board have been on the side of the fans for some time.

Also, 5 years to get to this point is far too much leeway in my opinion. I understand the club backing off until other court cases etc. where conducted & concluded, however the SFA should be well down the road in preparation for this event, given the 5 year warning they’ve had.

    I don`t worry about it , mate.

It`s just sad that some of our sad punters can`t have the same level of enjoyment that we can.

Celtic may well be on the cusp of relevance in Europe. About time too.

My boy and I can`t wait till 4.45 am Saturday morn for the next episode.

    Mate.

You`re smart enough to know about P.R. aka bulldust.

    Forget the press release.

    Look at the current reality.

    Not bad, eh ?

    Can`t you just enjoy ?

If that is the case, and PL is just a message boy,why did PL send the letter?.Who gave him permission?.

Why have Celtic again sent a letter asking for a JR?.

If it is,and was ,as you say, nothing would have been done.

I have no idea what Celtic are doing Ernie, just like you,but that does not stop you.

  7. Quick poll.

Should Celtic only be accessible to the poorer in our fan base as a Christmas or Birthday gift only?

    Yes

    or

    No

MWD Celtic is not just for Christmas.

  8. I pay for 3 season tickets.I pay to travel to home games.

I reckon the board deserve stick for some stuff and praise for some.

Pricing that means our poorest fans can’t afford tickets is wrong imo.Why would me saying that mean i’m less of a supporter than someone who doesn’t attend games but backs the board? We can all be supporters but hold differing opinions.

Peter Lawwell’s letter is something to be praised,a positive move.Is that me a real supporter because I praised a board member?

I support and am entitled to my view,as anyone is.Or is it ‘Open to all (as long as opinions are similar)’.

The board aren’t gods but nor are they devils,as usual, the truth is in between but folk are allowed to question them without being anti-Celtic,anti-PL or anti-anything.It’s good to question, that’s how we learn.

  9. BABASONICO

    Absolutely 100% spot on.

Club fully deserve credit for moving things on after leaking of letter sent 5 years, yip five years ago. But they also deserve a boot in the baws for pricing out poorer fans from ever seeing club play in the Champions League.

I could maybe forgive their over pricing if they were only making a few million but by all accounts it’s 28m prize for just taking part.

    It is rediculous.

Are we becoming that tourist club Paul67 wrote about a few months back?

Like everything in Scotland, tourist related it’s always over priced!

Perhaps its time for Paul to introduce ” Saddos corner ” on CQN where they can all , quietly or noisily , as per their wont , whinge away to each other about the evils of Celtic , happily uninterrupted by supporters who don`t share their delusions of relevance about their role in the scheme of Celtic things.

Could that be a plan ?

  11. Brendan says Patrick Roberts is not match fit yet so think it’s fair to presume James Forrest will get the nod for next week. He might have done anyway as he has been very solid so far.

  12. Perhaps its time for Paul to introduce ” Sigmoid Corner ” where the Pedro bum lickers on CQN can all , quietly or noisily , as per their wont , compete to catch each other’s feet as they climb into the orrifice and tale their tales of only the wonders about Celtic , happily uninterrupted by supporters who don`t share their delusions of relevance about their role in the scheme of Celtic things.

Could that be a plan ?

MWD Celtic is not just for Christmas or Torries. :-)))

  13. I didn’t think Paddy would be match fit. Given his lack of opportunities in pre-season games. Probs 4 weeks down on that fitness when signed. With Brendan’s methods he’ll probs be fit for Tuesday.

the letter that has been leaked makes interesting reading..

I dont recall seeing this before. Was it released? If not, as someone in the know (at least, more than most of us), do you know if this letter is genuine? Also, what is the date of it? Pre or post 5WA?

    Cheers,

Interesting (and very welcome!) development with that letter.

Anyone know who the journo is (I’m guessing not one of the Scottish based ones!)?

  24. Very happy to see the club have actually done something, but, and always the but, they could have saved themselfs mucho grief, it would have helped unite the support and the club and things could have come to a heard so much sooner had they leaked the letter they had written to the sfa back then, but better late than never I suppose :-)
