Race-ism, Rogic logic, governance

When Roy Race’s scriptwriters sat down to decide on their weekly football fantasies they would never bring themselves to write what Jack Aitchison went through yesterday.

A scoring debut.
With his first touch.
As the youngest player ever to play for the club.

This is classic (Roy) Race-ism.  To get to the stage of making your Celtic debut as a 16-year-old striker Jack would have to have eclipsed many older players in the youth structure, so he clearly has something about him, but consider anything he achieves in the next five years as a bonus.

With Kieran Tierney (18) and Ryan Christie (21) also scoring their first goals for the club yesterday, there was an air of optimism that some of the development work we’ve invested in recently is bearing fruit. The most important lesson from yesterday in this respect was Tom Rogic (23).

Tom has been at Celtic for over 3 years, which indicated the time it takes to develop a player. He came through long-term injury during that period but he could easily have dropped off the scene a year ago without much fuss. He now looks every inch the modern creative midfield player. What he did to create the chance for Ryan Christie’s goal yesterday was sublime. If you didn’t see it, go look for it.

It takes time and patience to develop players, but the evidence is mounting that we’re good at it again.

Really pleased the sun shone on Ronny’s last day, in every sense of the word. It was a high to go out on after a lot of rainy days, in every sense of the word. I planned to appraise him, and our strategy, after the Scottish Cup semi-final defeat but decided to leave it to the end of the season after his quick announcement that he was leaving. Will pick up with this in due course.

As I walked away from Celtic Park yesterday and pondered the success or otherwise of Ronny Deila’s reign, the thought occurred to me, maybe it’s too early to tell?

Remarkably, over the weekend, more than 500 of you have contributed to a crowdsource project to publicise issues relating to Resolution 12 in The Guardian newspaper, and a business paper serving Uefa’s territory in Switzerland (all without a mention in the main blog).

We are not served particularly well in Scotland with oversight, accountability and governance. It’s important for our society, not just our game, that those who can articulate this situation do so. Read this article for more information, with a link at the bottom to participate.

The SNP MSP is an arrogant wee creep. When asked why the Act has been ridiculed by the judiciary, he blamed the opposition parties for not coming up with an alternative knowing full well the SNP railroaded it through with their majority.

Season books after 25 years now cancelled after much deliberation and heartache.

Digesting the independent Offshore Game report just confirms my belief that some sort of stance against the lies and deciet of the SFA and their accomplices is not optional now but a necessity to bring honesty and fairness back to football.

Until that changes I won’t be back.It goes against the grain for me personally to accept the old philosophy of “it is was it is ” and deal with it.I went to every Celts for change meeting and bought my shares to be part of change unfortunately I see no other way of voicing my displeasure with Celtics lack of R12 support other than withdrawing my financial support of the club.

I’m afraid That a state of civil war now exists amoungst the Celtic family regarding this issue.

Some don’t care and some don’t want to be aware and are happy to trust in the media.

  8. I see the “Know fek all about football”mob were on today, trying to slag me for defending Biton.Trying to dis my likeness to the way Busqets and Carrick play. The mind does boggle sometimes.I watch every Barca game, have done for years. If Busqets can play a 2 yard sideways ball to Iniesta,Then,Xavi,or Messi,he will.Never changes his game, because thats his F—in job.Carrick does the exact job,and has always done so at United. Its called keeping possession.Let the more forward thinking players use the ball.I watched the Barca CL semi final, and in the first 20 mins,Busqets never hit a forward pass.Try and buy him.

This place would drive people nuts.Players being slaughtered regularly, all season. Then suddenly become flavour of the month, after one or two good games, then somone else has to cop it in their place. At the moment its Broony and Biton.Armstrong is back in favour,as is Mc Gregor, both of whom I rate.

5 years ago it was a risk to field youngsters as we could drop points

Over the last 2-3 years it has been hard to field youngsters due to Peter lawwells projects transfer policy. You can’t play youths alongside projects. Distaster

Hopefully if we appoint Keane then once Lawwell gone we can play youths alongside experienced pros

Yet you complain about Celtic fans slagging players.

Everyone are entitled to have opinions.

That’s what this blog is for.

I have defended Brown and Armstrong throughout this season.

McGregor i have been neutral though i think in a better system thats less static he will thrive.

Bitton is in my opinion a huge reason for a lot of our struggles this season.

He plays in a position in which he has proven to be incapable.

I have often stated my reasons for not rating him so i won’t repeat.

Yesterday Johansen was excellent in the anchor role.

He held position and kept us moving which was a huge reason for our positive football and denying our opponents chances from an area thats been problematic all season.

Without wishing to flog a dead horse , playing players out of their ( preferred ) positions was one of the major criticisms of Ronny during his tenure.

Good players don`t become bad players overnight.

Bitton and Johanssen being prime examples.

  15. MACJAY1

    I agree.

Many on here have raved about Bitton.

But i just can’t see it.

He does play in a role he is patently incapable of fulfilling.

My complaint all season that our engine room was stalled.

The defensive mid has a hugely important function and he can’t defend.

Thought Johansen was excellent in that role yesterday.

Foxy , I can see a CEO who has done some good things inside Celtic park

The organisation and efficiencies within running the club have improved , saving hundreds of thousands of pounds every year

I see a CEO who has brought in millions in new advertising revenue

Unfortunately I also see a CEO who oversaw the willo window, the start of The CEO control , he admitted he got it wrong , his fault. Loss in income of approx 40 million over 3 years , all for an extra 500k investment

Unfortunately I also see a CEO who has overseen strikergate. A striker policy that has cost our club over 15million in transfer fees down the drain for dross non scoring strikers , plus associated loss in earnings due to failure to score goals ,all because he had a salary cap for players

I have watched a CEO who oversaw a disastrous youth policy , how many players over ten years have come through the ranks to the first team ?? 1?,2?

I have watched a CEO who has gambled year in year out on Cl qualification against lesser teams and failed due to lack of planning. Cost to club maybe 60m on lost income

I have watched a CEO who appointed a coach with virtually zero European experience throw away vital European money. 40-50 m

What I can see is a CEO who has failed again and again costing our club millions. But is still there after 13 years

    Confused

I wish Ronny all the best. It could have been different with a bit of luck but he ran out of time. Time that no manager gets with Celtic. Thanks for your two in a row Ronny. I really hope we get someone in who runs with the same philosophy , except maybes two strikers, and gets a quicker better rub of the green. Excellent to see a young hungry Celtic team ending in a high. Onward to next season and a new era. Hit them forra six. Hail hail.

With much soul searching as for far to much of my life Celtic FC was my life, i like you wont be renewing my season ticket, it was left at my seat on Sunday

Paul67 writes in his blog the following

“We are not served particularly well in Scotland with oversight, accountability and governance. It’s important for our society, not just our game, that those who can articulate this situation do so”

Our custodians have IMO shamed the club by their silence and inaction over the last 4 years, our supporters now and in the past were labelled as paranoid, many generations had to suck up blatant cheating by the SFA, we now have all the evidence required to deal with the SFA on tax evasion, 5 way agreements, secret meetings between SFA and Sevco etc etc, it is all documented we have the evidence and the truth, we now need to as Paul says, articulate the truth, the Celtic board over the last decade has been comprised of people who are extremely well connected in the worlds of Politics, business, banking and football, cabinet ministers, deputy governor of the Bank of England, a genuine billionaire and we are represented on various football committees, unlike Donald Rumsfeld, we know when, where and how and most importantly by whom, Celtic FC will never ever have another opportunity such as this again to clear out the Augean stables, unfortunately no Hercules is to be found in the boardroom of Paradise, no one to turn the river of truth to clean out the SFA, i just will not turn up to watch another game whilst the Brysons and their ilk continue at the SFA
