Rangers are dead. Vindication for you, for Celtic

1200

My friends in Celtic, the day has come.  Rangers are dead.  The Old Firm existed for many years but we all now know that particular duopoly was terminated years ago – on the day Murray International Holdings bankers tried to put Celtic out of business, to be precise.

Today, we stand proud and alone.

On 3 October 2008 I wrote:

“Celtic are in an exceptionally strong financial position.  They can survive the vagaries of football fortune, or economic downturn, without the threat of cutback should income dip.

Conversely, Rangers are in dire trouble.  This year will not be financially the worst Sir David Murray has bestowed on his club, but it will make for horrendous reading to any prospective buyer of the club and provide further evidence that they are hopelessly adrift of financial security.

Winning the league this season and qualifying for next season’s Champions League will not provide succour from their structural problems, it would only result in a temporary slowdown in decline.

Rangers debt has risen inextricably, and is set to continue to rise, at a time when bank facilities have become more difficult and expensive to acquire.

Should new HBOS owners, Lloyds TBS, take fright at the property-to-football conglomerate, Murray International Holdings, which includes Rangers, frankly, the consequences are so dramatic, I don’t think we should discuss them, as I have trouble sleeping when I get too excited.

We live in a time when things which simply cannot happen, happen.  When some of last year’s most credit-worthy companies in the world have gone into receivership; when one of the centuries-old pillars of the Scottish business community crumbled in days.

No company dependent on a significant increase in its debt is safe.

Rangers Football Club, 1873 – 20??”

The years since 2008 have been hard for Celtic fans.  We watched our team lose three consecutive league titles to a former club, who despite their self-evident mortal danger, continued to fund a league and Champions League challenges.

We stuck to budget and lost trophies.  This was a hard decision but it was absolutely correct.  Football regularly throws up clubs who will recklessly burn cash.  You can indulge in their lunatic ways, or sit it out, tell your fans you cannot afford to spend more, and hope that in time your judgement is proven to be right.  Today is vindication for all those hard years.

I’m not a financial analyst and never actually spend too much time reading Rangers accounts but the above synopsis was inescapably obvious – and this was years before I knew about the EBTs.  Rangers directors would have known this at the same time, if not before.  If they were blind to it, they were equally useless.  Only God above will know why they didn’t rein the horses in, lose a few leagues, but kept their football clubs in business.

Great day for the good guys, mineshafters & happy clappers alike.

I think of family & friends who have had to take the pain of losing title after title to a club funded by foul practices by both Rangers and the SFA and I smile and raise a glass.

    Here’s to them.

    We have won.

They are not the same club, they are The Rangers formed about 8 hours ago or so. The old Club were Glasgow Rangers formed 1872. Do not let anyone tell you any different, they are dead, gone, extinct! They are not even a member of the SPL or SFA!

    Hail Hail!!

sounds good and even as a someone of no religion I pray you are right, right now I feel like one of those Japanese soldiers that were uncovered in 1949-50 – they simply couldn’t believe the war was over.

It just seems incredible, can we really have won? Can we have won by doing the right thing? By staying within our business plan? By not pandering to newspaper squealing? Even by ignoring the pleas of our own support to attempt to match the Zoms £ for £?

    Please let it be so.

“Well I dont understand how anyone can be happy.”

The shareholders of the club who were liquidated today were certainly not happy as they heckled the administrators and demanded to know why the team they supported were no longer in existence.

They don’t seem to think nothing has changed. Get over it. There is a new club Govan and they have still to sign their first player yet.

As I said in an earlier post it IS so.

Rangers will be liquidated – nothing anyone says will change that and in the heart of hearts of even the most deluded and extreme Rangers fan that is the truth , no matter how much they may try to convince themselves to the contrary. And they know it.

  11. BBC spoke to a couple of RFC shareholders today. The more articulate type of Bear I suppose.

None of them were in any doubt that today marked the end of RFC

  12. id just like to add a couple of relevant points.. (at least for me anyway)

1 – on my FB, i have several hun friends, i can see what they are discusing, with the new timeline, and out of the 12 that i could count as ticket holders, ALL of them are not renewing if they are in div3….. and they have ALL cancelled their DD.

they arent walking away… they are bloomin sprinting… and if u think this boycott season tickets palava, isnt a consequence of the above.. then u are daft :)

the thing is, we are not anymore….

2 – and on a rare celtic related note… is there anyone with any common sense on here that believes if the huns go to div3. then we wont buy any players ??

i for one would think that we should be playing 2 or 3 of the youth squad for a season or two. (cos we could) and let them flourish without the cancer that we are free from…

im not buying the, we need big players for europe answer either… as its unrealistic…

  13. the long wait is over on

oh and for anyone looking for an argument about the history here is the complete answer.

How can a company formed in 2012 claim to have won a trophy played for and awarded before it was even born?

Heard proddy forsyth on 5 live earlier and he gave an account of why fplg is so upset! he had a meeting with green which turned into a full blown arguement when fplg asked why green didnt want him as manager, not believing our new hero’s answer fplg then gets the SA tax dodger king on loudspeaker who says green had told him this, green angrily denies again saying why would i say that to you when i have never met you and spoke to you once! at this he reaches over and switches fplg’s phone off!!

Then as if by miracle the cardigan comes out of the woodwork with his 29th hour bid to buy the carcass. Proddy sums it up by saying they are trying to trap green in a pincer movement.

Dirty sleekit backstabbing undignified hun bassas, always have been and always will be.

  18. From RTC lost of references to Walter’s EBTs. Does the BBC have a question to answer. In their investigation they found evidence of players side contracts and values for EBT payments. Walter didn’t feature in the spreadsheet. I always thought that the more interesting payments would be those not published. Is there evidence that hasn’t been published that Walter was included in the EBT payments, did he receive these after leaving the club? Perhaps when he was no longer an employee? Perhaps someone needs to start investigating the BBC!

I’d like Celtic to sign young Ross Perry, decent young player who Martin O’Neil tried to sign as a kid.

Vested interest from me, his family are friends, I spent an hour or two with his Grandad last week, Rangers(RIP) supporter and good man, great family.

Other than that, who would even get close to our first team, Davis, McGregor?

  22. Cheers for that lads, I’ve been delaying renewing my two season tickets and in fact I still want to make sure that we dont have Night of the Living Dead in the SPL next season, but it is beginning to finally sink in that justice has prevailed…..finally.

Even though I can’t quite believe it I’ve been saying for a while now – sit down and watch Black Sunday again and smile because all that represents is down payment on their demise, ditto Rugby Park 2003.
