Rangers improper player registration evidence mounts

1152

More evidence emerged today on how Rangers recompensed players through their Employee Benefit Trust (EBT) scheme in The Sun newspaper, who have a draft contract Rangers offered an unnamed player.  The contract was a letter confirming a six figure payment as well as a £1200 per game appearance bonus.

An accountant told Sun reporters Paul Thornton and Ewing Grahame:

“I have been shown a contract of employment showing how much money players were going to get but also a back letter which I presume that individual has assumed is part of his salary. It seems like a contract.

“If the two documents are handed to someone together, is that seen as being his overall package? If the answer to that is yes then there is a problem because the money that goes into the trust really should be getting taxed because it is his salary.

“The fact it is there as a back letter at all suggests it is dodgy.”

Attention is obviously drawn to the potential criminal consequences of these tax arrangements but football fans throughout the country will be alarmed that Campbell Ogilvie, the man who was general secretary and director of Rangers when the EBT scheme started, is currently president of the SFA and would have been involved in scoping out the secret remit of the SFA inquiry into Rangers, which was asked to report within an incredibly quick two week period.  Ogilvie is also one of the few men the inquiry will report to.

If the allegations in today’s Sun are accurate, Rangers have improperly registered football players for a period of around a decade.  The penalty for playing an improperly registered footballer in any game is a 3-0 forfeit.

When the SFA president is in a position to confirm all of this, the association have all information they require to make a ruling on this, but despite these allegations being widely reported for many months, they have yet to even acknowledge there is anything to investigate.

Can you imagine the scrutiny the Football Association in England’s board and chief executive would be exposed to if this scandal was not being actioned?

i’ll leave it up to neil lennon. he has said when the details emerge he may want to ask questions.

the SFA, UEFA, FIFA will NEVER strip rangers of their tainted trophies.

all i can hope is that neil, you, me ask the questions… paint the true picture… show the reality so it shall never be forgotten.

rangers, by dint of prize money, champions league money, and merchandising, have STOLEN many, many millions of pounds.

had they walked into a bank with stockings on their heads, they would be hunted like dogs by interpol.

we shall always know the truth and it is our duty to shame the… shame… who commited these crimes.

no-one will do it for us.

i admire the pro-active stance that the club, and in particular a man cheated more than most, have taken.

i am very, very proud right now to be a celtic fan.

i wonder how i would feel if i… wasn’t. best i can tell the rats have deserted the sinking ship and have taken an interest in an obscure sport featuring a mis-shapen ball.

Derry City were incorporated into the LoI, due to there adverse working environment.

Perhaps one of the Derry lads can confirm or otherwise.

Derry were expelled from the Irish league After à Away Team Bus was burned.Derry made several attempts to get back in but the bigot that was Harry Cavanagh prevented them re-entry.Derry enteref the League of Ireland at the Bottom and have twice been in the Same Boat As Rangers..First time round John Hume arranged for Barcelona to play a friendly at the Brandywell, they brought the full squad, what a night.Celtic Also played a friendly, lead by Chris Sutton,it was mostly reserves but Didier Agathe made his Celtic debut..Second time round Derry were wound up and came back straight away at the bottom again. The agreement was that the company who controlled Derry would have no dealings in The newco..The company Welvan themselved still remain the main creditors..

  11. YivWhit @ 14.49,

No problem about having Cetic supporters who are anti-Catholic, but if they believe in inclusiveness they won’t express their anti-Catholicism in the Celtic environment (i.e. at matches or on Celtic blogs). Singing hymns isn’t meant to offend anyone & therefore doesn’t breach inclusiveness.

You might want to revisit your statement that “some of your Celtic-supporting friends are just that – ex-Catholics with a disdain (for) or hatred of the Club”: it just doesn’t make any sense. As for fascist elements in the support, I have yet to see any – tho’ the fascist left is not only present, but expresses itself on this Forum..

Regarding the cheating huns and all their friends in the cheating sfa.

I feel that what Auldheid has been preaching for years now may be forced to come about as the longer the spl have any tie in with the sfa the more amateurish the league becomes.

Now is the time for the spl to split completely from the sfa, forced by the clubs if need be.

All refs appointed and graded by the spl not sfa…as championed by Auldheid since time began…nearly.

All disciplinary matters done transparently with an open panel before the next game. Not behind closed doors 6 weeks later like now under the sfa.

Players contracts passed and approved by again an open panel to stop what has been happening at ibrokes for over 10yrs.

If the sfa mantain their grip on the spl the opportunity for hun friendly officials to cheat will always be there.

At this moment the sfa is no longer fit for purpose and without a complete clearout/revamp then the doubts will always remain.

Take the lead Celtic force the spl to change with the times, modernise and become transparent. For the future of the scottish game this has to happen.

we are neither black nor white, gay nor straight. we are no more pape than prod. we do not wish any harm to our fellow celtic supporter.

we have only two colours. green, and white. to the core.

i only know of one club where religion is, or ever has been an issue.

His comments show just how much of a middle class bubble radio shortbread is (the non footballing part of it), and how out of touch they are with the reality of what’s going on round about them.

I commented on this yesterday, I think its profesionalism. I think they have been told to concentrate and keep on winning.

And we will celebrate properly when we bring the trophies home.

they all enjoy scoring, but that steely determination to get the job done is something i am liking.

I believe he has lived and worked in Glasgow since about the age of twelve.

He’s supposed to be some king of current affairs pundit.

Yet he was surprised by what he saw and heard at Ibrox.

I suspect his views and his ignorance are fairly representative of the chattering classes here.
