Rangers relax BBC ban when cash is at stake

953

Rangers today relaxed their ban on the BBC, issued after a documentary with contributions from two former Rangers directors was screened last month.  The BBC booked a paying gig at Ibrox for this afternoon’s game against Dundee United, if Rangers stuck to their principles they would have missed a media payment from the SPL.

Tune in to BBC Scotland this afternoon and listen to the sound of licence payers’ money strut its stuff from Ibrox.

    brilliant

Yet the Premier League would be enhanced by the presence of Celtic and Rangers. The product has become predictable and tired and there is little genuine competition. Only three clubs have a realistic chance of winning the title. Of those, Chelsea and Manchester City are common-or-garden outfits who have simply bought permanent residence in the top four. Thirteen clubs have no chance of getting there. The Premier League is no longer a competition – it’s an exalted soup kitchen.

I see the Huns had the Forces on the pitch at half-time yesterday.

Shocking hypocrisy and sheer cynicism from them.

Q: If an EPL club was facing a massive legal action from HMRC over unpaid taxes, do you think the media in England would be silent over their attempt to appropriate the brave men and women of the Army to their cause – at a time when the Army is being starved of equipment by a country whose public services are being starved of cash?

A: Absolutely not. But I would bet the farm that not one single journalist in Scotland will have the guts to point out the rank hypocrisy of RFC.

    ———————————————————————————

Just on a matter of fact, they are not facing any action over unpaid taxes, they are facing a hearing to determine whether they are liable for any taxes.

    …………..

I believe there is a smaller tax bill which is owed to HMRC, and there was a court action to freeze monies owed, I don’t think that tax bills been paid yet!

Also semantics I know but the actions of two former directors in freezing club assets, were due to the clubs likelihood in going into administration as a result of losing the tax case, there’s an implied tax liability in there methinks.

Outgoing St Johnstone chief Geoff Brown: No-one should be wishing the worst for Rangers

    Nov 6 2011 Sunday Mail

GEOFF BROWN last night issued a grim warning for Scottish football not to wish the worst for Rangers – because their demise could spark a catastrophic chain reaction.

The outgoing St Johnstone chairman reckons our game is at its lowest ebb in 25 years.

And he reckons any fan hoping the Ibrox club hit the skids and fall into administration should think twice, fearing it could put the entire SPL in jeopardy.

Brown, who is Scotland’s longest-serving club chairman, sighed: “The mess Rangers are in just now doesn’t help any of us. None of us can afford that to happen.

“If Rangers do go into administration and the club aren’t earning money, of course it has to go down the chain, one way or another.

“If you take even the television contracts, it’s really important Rangers are a part of that.

“There’s no way anyone should be wishing the worst for them – that’s the last thing we should be doing.”

While Brown admits he is astonished at the current situation at Ibrox he has expressed worries over the calibre of people running clubs in this country.

He said: “It comes back to the tax bill. At the time David Murray was wanting to sell the club the debt was about £20m and I would have thought that was chicken feed as you’re heading up an institution, and one that was maybe bringing in £12m from the Champions League.

“I honestly didn’t see it as being a problem.

“But I’ve had experience in my time of a number of directors, even of this club, and I would not have wanted to have relied on them for my wages.

“There’s no question this is the worst state the game’s been in since I’ve been involved.

“As for reconstruction, I wanted to bring 10 from the First Division and run it effectively as an SPL2, starting the league in early July when clubs would get broadcast money, and make it a softer landing for clubs going down.

“Then ultimately change the set-up into a 10-12 a couple of years down the line.

“But that hasn’t happened and the way it’s going I can’t see us making the end of the season without an administration in the First Division.”

    ——–

No guess’s which way St Johnstone will vote then.

Wonder who the SM will trump out next Sunday.

MacCarra’s article in the Observer only annoyed me in one way: his claim that we would not want them to go to the wall. I pray for that fervently every day. If that (and Sion) make it possible for us to move to a new league, I will be deloghted.

Check out the trains as well.

As the advert used to say…’let the train take the strain’. I assume you are coming into Heathrow. Get the fast link to Paddington, across to Euston, couple of bottles of wine (ok 4) and get on board the Glasgow flier, stagger out at the Central, jump a black and head for Sharkeys.

That’s what I would plan anyway. Mind you having planned it as the man said ‘the best laid plans o’ mice and men gang aft agley’ and I would end up getting the sleeper from Euston that night, having a shower in the Central, breakfast in McDonalds (the bakery on the Trongate, not that plastic american keech), a pint in the Tolbooth (8.00 am opening), meet me in Sharkeys at 11.00, have a special fish supper for dinner, back to Sharkeys at 3.00ish. Head for game at 7.00, pie supper on way, back to Sharkeys at 9.45 and take it from there. (oh and a kebab with chillie sauce)

    Sounds good to me.

    Hail hail

  15. I really hope Neil and the players realise that we must win the battle today before we can think about winning the match. For that reason, ditch the 4-4-2 and go with a line-up similar to Thursday night:

    Forster

    Cha

    Majstorovic

    Mulgrew

    Matthews

    Forrest

    Wanyama

    Kayal

    Ledley

    Samaras

    Stokes

Assuming al of the above are fit and available for selection, the above line-up is good enough to go and get the three points.

    _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Again, not accurate. The lower tax bill is disputed with negotiations ongoing. It will only be unpaid, if negotiations break down and the club are required to pay, which they have have already agreed to do. The sum has been ringfenced to ensure payment should the amount be required to be paid.

If a plumber charged you for work and you disputed the bill would you pay the full sum whilst in negotiations with him over the amount ?

    Be factually correct gentlemen.

  17. I have my issues with the way our club is run but today everyone is Celtic and everyone of us must stand with neil lennon come on celtic HH

  18. Right,

Shower , shave, porridge, and who knows perhaps may sneak a wee shniffter or two of Glasgow’s finest reds. But one thing is sure, with all this climate change I expect the players to be fully hydrated and wearing short sleeved shirts. Anyone who is going to be sitting in the stand opposite the South stand (my memory fails me when it comes to points of the compass) remember to pit plenty of sunscreen on.

Not sure that’s correct, the wee tax bill is accepted by rangers fc, it’s the fine that’s disputed, they owe the tax man and havent yet paid…. Thats factual I’d say!
