Rangers? That wasn’t even a Basket of Assets

891

They can call themselves whatever insolvency practitioners allow them to be called, but even the court assertion, that Charles Green bought a Basket of Assets, not a football club, seems overly optimistic. That lot look more like a Basket of Liabilities than assets.

I told you Joey Barton was a good Celtic man, there to take their money, and self-respect. Their big former Arsenal centre half is four years younger than our big former Arsenal centre half, but good grief! You could forgive him for being short of pace, but acting like an immature simpleton is unforgivable.

Moussa Dembele’s Perfect Hat-trick (one with the head, one with the right, one with the left), was a charm. We watched Henrik give us so much, he deserved to score a hat-trick against Oldco Rangers, but the history book was closed on that one with Harry Hood’s in the League Cup in 43 years ago.

I have witnesses to saying “We’ll have to settle for five instead of seven”, when hearing Leigh Griffiths would miss out today. Dembele (20), put in a performance which defied his inexperience. He looked like the £20m player some think we’ve signed. What’s more, he’ll continue to improve.

Tom Rogic had clearly been identified as our most dangerous creative player. He was hacked throughout, before retiring early in the second half. Scott Brown and Nir Bitton were also on top of their game, controlling the crucial central area.

Both full backs, Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney, got assists, as they created width to allow the central players to do their stuff.

Brendan Rodgers will hopefully highlight that the only two attempts on goal we conceded came a moment after we scored, near the end of each half. Teams notoriously lose concentration after scoring.

I’m off to find out who their no. 4 was. I’ve him down for two assists on his own. Liabilities, to a man – the keeper apart, who did well.

  1. AAFG.

I was born in Water Row in 1963.

    Very near Greenhaugh St.

My Dad was born in Neptune St and my Mum was brought up in Tuker Hill? Not sure how you spell it.

My granny lived in Dava St in the wine alley.

I’m guessing you know all these places.

    AAFG,

Really is good to see your name back again.

As you can see, there are a few of us old timers, I like to think of us septuagenarians as the Golden Bhoys.

When you think of the Celtic players and teams we have witnessed over the past 60 odd years, we have amassed a Golden heritage.

What happens, happens, is as good a maxim for life as any.

The longer I am here, the more I see it as a place where we all can share our greatest triumphs and our darkest lows…..

Unfortunately we are always remembered for sharing our darkest lows and this always involves us lashing out at those who we dont know. The irony of this is these people might be our greatest friends.

I have lashed out a wee bit in the past and am sure I will do again in the future.

This is great place and am glad I have been here for years.

More over am sorry to have seen posters come and go, especially sorry for the ghuys that no longer have a choice in being here.

They would have fucking loved today.

  10. GFTB…

I was at a table with three Coatbridge bhoys today, met them years ago, they ran a mini bus to the games until it packed out. You might might know them. Cracking blokes.

  11. What a magical day.

    ;)

Big Moussa was clinical. I was delighted when Brendan made his 3rd substitution. I kinda then knew he was going to score again. :)

4 players who have came in for criticism were very good today. Mikael, Nir, Stuart and especially wee James were players struggling over the last year or so, so it was especially pleasing to see them all playing very well.

Big MD was definitely the MOTM with Tom Rogic not far behind him.

    The Celtic Support were Superb.

Found myself in a minor pickle this week and spent about two minutes thinking how to get out of it.

I know this sounds crazy etc but deep down I somehow knew that “him upstairs” would do something to help me out of what was no more than a wee minor jam.

  20. In Chester with some good friends for the weekend. Managed to catch the first half before going to the racing. When it goes to 2 0 in a pub full of people who don’t care the archetypal Hun starts shouting feenian b……s x4 and storms out of the pub. They really are everywhere . Dread to think what he must have been like rapt 5.

  21. Well just watched the full 90 minutes again and it was much better the second time around.

Lustig played much better than I thought he did. Broony and Rogic were first class. Nir Bitton had a fantastic game as the link man: for all of those who says he disnae pass the ball forward, look at the pass for big Moussa’s second goal!

Fantastic substitutions by Brendan Rodgers again! Armstrong and McGregor did really well. Paddy Roberts wisnae brilliant: he was only fantastic today.

    What a signing Sinclair is.

We beat a pile of sh**e today but I thoroughly enjoyed it! The future is bright; the future is Green & White!
