Rangers? That wasn’t even a Basket of Assets

891

They can call themselves whatever insolvency practitioners allow them to be called, but even the court assertion, that Charles Green bought a Basket of Assets, not a football club, seems overly optimistic. That lot look more like a Basket of Liabilities than assets.

I told you Joey Barton was a good Celtic man, there to take their money, and self-respect. Their big former Arsenal centre half is four years younger than our big former Arsenal centre half, but good grief! You could forgive him for being short of pace, but acting like an immature simpleton is unforgivable.

Moussa Dembele’s Perfect Hat-trick (one with the head, one with the right, one with the left), was a charm. We watched Henrik give us so much, he deserved to score a hat-trick against Oldco Rangers, but the history book was closed on that one with Harry Hood’s in the League Cup in 43 years ago.

I have witnesses to saying “We’ll have to settle for five instead of seven”, when hearing Leigh Griffiths would miss out today. Dembele (20), put in a performance which defied his inexperience. He looked like the £20m player some think we’ve signed. What’s more, he’ll continue to improve.

Tom Rogic had clearly been identified as our most dangerous creative player. He was hacked throughout, before retiring early in the second half. Scott Brown and Nir Bitton were also on top of their game, controlling the crucial central area.

Both full backs, Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney, got assists, as they created width to allow the central players to do their stuff.

Brendan Rodgers will hopefully highlight that the only two attempts on goal we conceded came a moment after we scored, near the end of each half. Teams notoriously lose concentration after scoring.

I’m off to find out who their no. 4 was. I’ve him down for two assists on his own. Liabilities, to a man – the keeper apart, who did well.

  1. KLV – everything they do smells to the high heavens of something dodgy.

It’s more criminal enterprise than football club.

I bet Barton, kranjcar, hill and senderos cannot believe their luck with the last pay day they are getting – all for the sake of PR.

Better get my ‘laundry’ done. Don’t know why I associate that with Sevco …. Ahem

  2. P.s some of the ha is questions to Dembele are awful -“was it easier than expected today”, trying to lead the boy into a stinging headline.

He deals with it very well though, credit to him

My first hun game was Jan 66, 5-1 Chalmers hattrick. Took my grandson to his first yesterday, same score and a hattrick. Should’ve backed it.

That was the best atmosphere I can remember at the new CP. The North curve had a lot to do with it. My seat, right next to the away dugout, catches the noise full on. Incredible stuff. Six yards away from Warburton, you could feel his pain. Miller actually got applauded for going round every Celtic player and the coaches at full time, and he was subbed.

  5. Robert Tressell – Not sure to be honest, possibly a Heart attack, ParaMedics worked on him for 15mins or more, sadly he didnt appear to recover

Thanks stringer, Have a look for that just now. Was blew away at how honest Brendan was yesterday when he spoke about Jock and his Dad, I am not much younger than Brendan and he amazes me most times he talks. He is very human, I expect that most stuff down south is bravado and playing to the cameras, He really is at home here with us and long may it continue.

Was at the game in Dingwall…County had a “goal” disallowed that would have made it 2-0…..will need a look at the highlights.

No complaints with the sending off….all in all pretty dour game.

  8. Anyone wondering why we enjoyed beating the newco yesterday so much should go to YouTube and check out their followers trashing the toilets. Two police in among them.

Sectarian songs, chanting about child abuse, wrecking property.

Police do nothing. Maybe they are concerned about their safety but where are the wee cameras they love using on Celtic fans? Why not call in their colleagues and lift a few of them?

As you say criminal enterprise, I wonder how the players you mentioned are being paid? joey, kranky, senderof and hill will all be on a few bob, they were already running at a huge lose before those guys with a decent income stream or sympathetic bank.

Well I should have listened to the Bluenoses and Huns at my work who said we’d hammer them. I could not believe they were as bad as they looked v Killie but if anything they were worse.

We were very good although never in top gear as we did not need to be againt opposition that was no better than the likes of Raith Rovers, Falkirk, Airdrie etc- teams that have come to Celtic Park in my life time and been routinely thrashed.

I had forgotten how loud it was at these games at Celtic Park – the last one I was at against the original Ramgers was the Joe Ledley game nearly 5 years ago. The wee bhoy sat to my left was scared by it and was in tears at the roar that met the first goal. His tears at the fifth goal were not in fear though. He won’t ever forget his first game versus ‘Rangers’. Neither will I.

I never accepted the line that Warburton’s was an honourable man.

No one with any level of intelligence or scruples would work for the thugs and criminals masquerading as company directors at Ibrox.

The whole operation is tainted and to entertain the thought that anyone with alleged experience in currency transferring would not know what goes on at Ibrox is fanciful to the extreme.

  16. Morning fholks.

Watched the game again in the early hours and obviously got a different view from being there, from my seat I wasn’t able to see Rankjar and Girner’s pathetic acting, almost as bad as their footballing performance.Embarrasing.

Brendan and Broony’s interviews were impressive, loved Scott’s “I was just checking he was alright” retort when asked about his Barton baiting after our second goal.

    Sky guy,”And was he alright?”

    Broony,”Aye,I think so.”Comedy gold. ;))

Lots of goodies yesterday but highlight, for me,was Moussa’s second goal.Cool, classy and clinical. There’s a future superstar in the making with young Moussa.

Sinclair is a special player, too, his running off the ball oozes footballing intelligence. And big Kolo strolls through games.Didn’t think there was a failure in our team.

Hoopy days and a bright green future.

During the match me and my mhate were discussing how we’d prefer it when we played thems at Celtic Park if they had none of their follow-followers attending, even if it meant none of our supporters at the Intolerance Dome.We think they add nothing but hate and base level humanity to the occasion, they stink out our house. After seeing the pictures of the destroyed toilets I am even more emphatic in my belief.

It’s good knowing they are suffering inside. But unsettling imagining the way they’ll vent their frustration. You can’t have rangers without ANGER.

  17. Sky and Ian Croker in particular was scripted at half time when they had checked the history books for the last hat trick against Rangers, they probably started looking as soon as Moussa scored his second goal.

Despite the blatant old firming Sky agenda ably assisted by the execrable, Andy Walker Dembele will go down in Celtic history as the first Celtic scorer of three verse Sevco.

Watched the highlights three times and the best goal celebrations ever are Mikel Lustig wearing a beachball at Moussa’s second.

On reflection the Stuart Armstrong surprise appearance was inspirational from a manager that knows his players better than anybody.

How do you know when Tom Rogic is tiring?

When he loses possession or miss places a pass.

When this happens, BR subs him.

He did this yesterday and Armstrong came on and we reclaimed the midfield.

  20. AuroraBorealis79 on

Here is an interesting piece from the Warbo WIKI

It was later discovered that one reason for Warburton’s departure was because he vetoed any incoming transfers during the 2015 January transfer window, only sanctioning the signing of an injured Lewis MacLeod.[83] This was despite an impending transfer embargo for a breach of FFP rules if they failed to win promotion. The club did not win promotion and was therefore forced to sell several first team players in the 2015 Summer transfer window and try to replace them in a short space of time.

Note:£850,000 was the fee paid to Sevco

Can’t recall a time when we’ve had a manager whose substitutions were so effective. It’s reassuring to know we have a manager who can effect a game as it’s being played through, what seems like,2020 footballing vision.

Stuart helped,of course,by performing very, very well after coming on.

  26. Bit of re-cycling — the point has been raised in other posts last night.

    Everything changed in Jan 2009.

Planning, team construction finished in that month.

For the next 7 years we were buying players by the dozen.

Everything was based on sell on value and looking for bargains / projects.

No structure, no team building just collecting a bloated squad of hope.

Sometimes in financial terms it worked — we got the 2 years and they got the EPL move.

Sometimes it didn’t — 6 CF flops out of 7 takes some doing and a lot of our money wasted.

Then just when you thought it couldn’t get any worse it was loans X 5.

So the biggest change for me in the last 3 months is that we are buying players to build a team.

Got a gap — then try and find the guy to sort it out and we have been quite successful at this.

RD got players in and then sat them in the stand.

BR has got players in and put them on the park.

However a bit of luck does nobody any harm.

Bloated squad full of square pegs provides the raw materials for a good coach.

We missed out on a CM — less of an issue if you have some class to work with.

SA is probably the biggest example but he is not the only one.

He has a long way to go to deliver what he is capable off but yesterday was a huge step forward.
