Rangers? That wasn’t even a Basket of Assets

891

They can call themselves whatever insolvency practitioners allow them to be called, but even the court assertion, that Charles Green bought a Basket of Assets, not a football club, seems overly optimistic. That lot look more like a Basket of Liabilities than assets.

I told you Joey Barton was a good Celtic man, there to take their money, and self-respect. Their big former Arsenal centre half is four years younger than our big former Arsenal centre half, but good grief! You could forgive him for being short of pace, but acting like an immature simpleton is unforgivable.

Moussa Dembele’s Perfect Hat-trick (one with the head, one with the right, one with the left), was a charm. We watched Henrik give us so much, he deserved to score a hat-trick against Oldco Rangers, but the history book was closed on that one with Harry Hood’s in the League Cup in 43 years ago.

I have witnesses to saying “We’ll have to settle for five instead of seven”, when hearing Leigh Griffiths would miss out today. Dembele (20), put in a performance which defied his inexperience. He looked like the £20m player some think we’ve signed. What’s more, he’ll continue to improve.

Tom Rogic had clearly been identified as our most dangerous creative player. He was hacked throughout, before retiring early in the second half. Scott Brown and Nir Bitton were also on top of their game, controlling the crucial central area.

Both full backs, Mikael Lustig and Kieran Tierney, got assists, as they created width to allow the central players to do their stuff.

Brendan Rodgers will hopefully highlight that the only two attempts on goal we conceded came a moment after we scored, near the end of each half. Teams notoriously lose concentration after scoring.

I’m off to find out who their no. 4 was. I’ve him down for two assists on his own. Liabilities, to a man – the keeper apart, who did well.

  1. Terrific performance and result yesterday, ’nuff said!

The Huns show their class by wrecking the toilets.

Willie Collum has a faultless performance as the referee!

Barca rested a few players, brought on messi & suarez in the 2nd half but still struggled to break dowm packed defence.

Ps they looked dodgy at the back to counter attack.

I thought Collum was ok yesterday, apart from letting Krancjar kick everything he was close to (apart from the ball) he was choking book Nir Biton (deservedly) but let Kranjcar on a yellow off with a similar tackle……

Hugh MacDonald on radio Scotland just said Hearts 2-1 defeat to Celtic now looks like a brilliant result for Hearts !

I thought Collum was ok. He should have booked Garner for his play acting plus his retaliation at not being fouled never mind not being stamped on.

I think Krancjar was two yards off the pace yesterday which contributed to his high foul ratio, don’t remember him as a dirty player. Substituted before he was sent off.

Bitton deserved his yellow. Collum for me had a good game, no major faux pas.

The standout Hun yesterday for me was Windass who carried the ball forward pretty well. The rest were anonymous to poor.

Booked tickets last night for the Celtic Story on Thursday night, seemingly the last half an hour is just community singing!

At halftime we were talking and everybody thought TR was our best player in the 1st half, love the way he holds the ball and invites the opposition to foul him……priceless for the team

  9. Back to Basics - Glass Half Full on

    Good afternoon all.

I think some on here are being a bit harsh on Warbo.

His poor post match comments are, for me, a sign of his lack of top flight managerial experience.

He is, after all, the most inexperienced top flight manager currently in the SPFL.

Had a more experienced top flight manager …… say Jim McIntyre, Richie Foran or Alan Archibald – made those remarks I might be disappointed.

Perhaps we should recognise that rookie top flight managers make mistakes.

As Warbo gets more experience in top flight management ( currently he has 450 minutes worth ) we can expect better in future.

    Hail hail

  10. Robinbhoy/Hendrix

Don’t disagree thought Collum was fine, but (always a but) he should apply the same laws to both teams, as for Kranjcar, I totally agree a brilliant footballer about 5yrs ago, these days he is too slow hence the kicking out, more frustration than nasty….but Willie Collum should have a look back and see how many fouls and intentionally kick outs from Niko…..as for Garner, I usually know even lower league players in England, still wonder who he is…….the Huns are mince and am looking forward to the dandy dons pumping them and would love it if they didn’t make the top 6, which is a distinct possibility

  11. Two wee hun-supporting naffs have been taunting my son all week how their team was going to embarrass Celtic yesterday. They are new to the school and its the first time my boy has experienced rivalry of any sort. He has been worried all week and asking me to reassure him. I told him not to worry, the BIG match is on Tuesday. I joked with him that we’re keeping Paddy and Leigh for the Barca game. Anyway you can imagine the huge grin on his face at full time.

He asked me what should he say to them on Monday. Told him not to bother – they’ll probably take a sickie off school all week.

    Gerryfae, Desertbhoy,

Of course he was booted all over the place. That would have taken it’s toll.

Whatever the reason, it is only the last couple of games that Tom has played the 90.

As you say, he was a;ways going to come off early yesterday, irrespective of the kicking.

What I was saying, is that it is noticeable in his play when he is tiring and BR usually gets his subbing spot on.

Sixty minutes of Tom Rogic is better than ninety from most players.

    Tom reminds me of Riquelme.

Off to Aughnacloy to collect granddaughter.

  13. Notice a few mentions of the Willie Vass photos from yesterday.

He is the Sevco Rangers fans photographer and he was given a pass yesterday by Celtic FC.

You could say that Geo is the Celtic equivalent and he supplies CQN and other Celtic supporters sites such as Celtic NewsNow will Celtic photographs.

While Vass was given his pass yesterday Geo wasn’t. Shambles of a decision that has been going on all season.

“I spoke about Jock Stein in my team talk,” Rodgers said. “It was primarily about the guy looking down, the man who set the tone for this club, the template. Front foot, aggressive, no fear and when things go against you have that mentality to bounce back. We said that if he is looking down make sure we do him proud.”

FAO EXPAT CELT, I’m an old man now but when I read your post about your wee Bhoy and the apprehension that he feels just now about those mini me zombies at his school, I remembered a wee chant that has always stuck with me when I first went to see the Celts in the early 1960’s as a wee Bhoy myself.

I may have mentioned this Celtic chant a couple of days ago for a wee laugh, anyway here goes Celtic CHA CHA CHA………..rangers BOO…BOO….BOO !

The other one that I remember from the 1980’s was, ” We drink beer, we drink wine…..Celtic have already made it NINE” !

RIP to the Celtic man who lost his life yesterday from what I have read on here.

  20. Interesting JJ article on Warburton…

Strangely enuff when he first got the job in Management I thought ex-City Trader MMMmmmmmm.

Like those guys you know who had trials and apprenticships for Top Teams… we probably all know many… I certainly do, how many make it?

Not an expert by any means, my knowlegde of the City comes as a technology guy. But on a project basis have worked with quite a few Banks.

Now I do not know what to make of JJ’s piece.

Firstly let me tell you about my pal from School… like me he is the same age as the Admiral… When he “joined” the City as a teenager (no degree) it was a very different place.

He went in as a jobber on the Stock Exchange, in those days it wasn’t what you knew it was who you knew…

He went on to be very, successful…

    In insurance.

Also coming up to date, the ForEx trading is notorious for personnel turnover, I could pay for a course and go into the City… rent a desk and start trading ForEx (cheaper to do it from home though:)

So the label ex-City trader means little, but JohnJames would be wrong to suggest that Mark Warburton would need a top degree to have started in the City…

The other thing is the Companies he worked for, all of them were very different beasts that long ago… (he could have got in as a tea boy;)

Take RBS for example, they were a Scottish Retail Bank back in the day. Of course they would have dealt in ForEx but not in the way we mean it today…

RBS’s trading is done mainly round Liverpool St… It was actually Greenwich NatWest, RBS aquired it when they took over NWB at the turn of the Millennium.

So I’m afraid JJ’s piece means little outside the fact that if Mark Warburton’s career was as illustrious as he makes out and he was handling 1.5-2 Billion a day over a lenghty career he would have been a player and you’d expect someone would know him.

It is very possible for Mark Warburton to have had a “City career” for twenty plus years with those Banks and only a few of them been as a trader. Failed traders don’t always leave the City, some get jobs in Compliance, Procurement, Projects etc etc…

I knew an exTrader once who drove a brand new 600 Series Mercedes…

He was the chauffeur for his mate… who was a very, very successful Trader and owned a Brand new 600 Series Mercedes.

  22. Fantastic yesterday. Day with family and friends. Booze, sunshine, Celtic and hammering the huns.

    My 2 sons and I had £10 each on Celtic -2 @ 6/1. I also had £10 on Dembele to score first @ 11/2.

I actually wrote out a slip for a Dembele hat-trick @ 40/1 but bottled out of it. Not complaining though.

Wonderful stuff from Celtic. Brendan is da man. At half-time the atmosphere was a bit flat after they got back into it. My son asked if I was worried. I thought about it and said no. I said if it was last season, yes I’d be worried, but Brendan is such a good motivator, he’ll make sure the players are focused and we’ll bury them second-half.

We can grab a draw on Tuesday. This team can do it.

    Hail Hail.
