Reacting to adversity

1334

I like Scott Brown and Leigh Griffiths’ reactions to our recent adversity.  It says a lot about them.  They both personalise responsibility for what happens next, this is an important part of recovery – and success.

A week ago I wrote that the League Cup semi against Ross County was the biggest game in the rest of our season, and that it wasn’t a game I’d bet on.  It provided the toxicity cup football can generate, creating a crisis mentality which rolled into Aberdeen on Wednesday.

This psychological phenomenon has to end now.  Feel free to put a date in June in the diary to get back to it.  We are in a genuine league title contest, something you and I talked about as a great thing for Scottish football not so long ago.  We have no God given right to be miles ahead of anyone.  We are here because we’ve made mistakes and an opponent stepped up.  Welcome to Celtic.

If you want to open an inquest when the patient catches a cold, knock yourself out, but I’m not up for it.  If we want this title, we circle the wagons and give the manager and players the encouragement they need to get the job done (and, erm, that includes you, ‘Phyllis’).  You can be sure Aberdeen fans will do nothing less.

Tomorrow the focus switches to Perth, where Aberdeen take on St Johnstone.  They won their first 8 league games this season, but the wheels came off the tractor immediately after their most important victory away from home – at Tynecastle.  Next up was a League Cup game against Hibs, the loss of which plunged them into a five-week chasm.

They are a team who get notoriously nervous just when they begin to think they are in with a chance.  We’ll see what Tommy Wright does with them tomorrow.

Enjoy your football.  Enjoy this league race, the challenge and the disappointments.  Enjoy that thrill when a goal goes against Aberdeen, or the downer when they score.  It will make the finale all the more rewarding, I promise you.

On the money. We have better players than Aberdeen but they have better team, at moment

Other than Gordon, Brown and Griffiths, I can’t say who are definite starters for Celtic

Every week, every game, it’s a mystery

Ronnys going and if it’s not till June we better do our work now or next season will be just the same

Most of those guys play most weeks and have done so for 2 or 3 seasons…

As you say – we play 8 strangers most weeks…

It should be 4k/ week as of today and a £1k week minder attached to him for a year or two…

  4. Watching RD is a bit like Gary Cooper in HIgh Noon. He’s made lot of bad decisions but he’s going to see it out regardless.

I was there at the start and at the finish of the ugly scenes that you heard about at Pittodrie.

It was an absolute disgrace but had nothing to do with opinion on Ronny Delia mate.

All Celtic Playing Staff have access to a Taxi Company with full credit facilities on the club account. No need for cash in your pocket and it’s a freephone number to boot.

It’s a great picture. Never saw it before.

A few kilmacolm English were in saint Stephens around my time.

I had the occasional shandy in the knights . in fact I just passed it today. You wouldn’t recognise Burnside and surrounds now.

    What was jacks name

  8. I’m not a Mcgregor fan. I feel he is well short of the quality we need to get back to the standards we had between 2000 -2012. Having said that I admire his effort in trying to improve. He made a stupid mistake, I wouldn’t sacrifice him for that. I would however have him much further down the depth chart than Ronny has him.

I would though be actively trying to sell him. He is stopping better players getting game time

… That sounds right and makes Callum’s stupidity all the more blatant.

  10. Paul 67 is it possible to stop those ridiculous pictures at the top of the page ? They are really quite oft putting especially to men of a certain age.

I can’t make my mind up about McGreggor … He looks to lack quality but certainly not lacking effort. He also scores decent goals.

In a way he’s a target for younger better players like Alan and Christie who should be asking themselves why he is in front of them. The answer must be his application. If the Christies, Alan’s and now Roberts apply themselves at his level they over take him …

We need to sell 6 midfielders to make team selection easier and more consistent…

  12. Wow, got logged in first time for a while! Jude, hoody birthday.

Weefra, great to see you posting again of late, ya fox yeh!

It would be brilliant to see a return of the Ronny Roar also – even only because for some reason that annoys the SMSM something shocking.

Poor Ronny castigated for doing what the support were demanding after every victory, obviously from the win at the Sheep penn last season.

If the roar is to take place the day Celtic retain the league title – Celtic Park, or wherever it is won – the place is going to erupt.

We need to go on a winning run now – win every game.

Can’t see any home fixture against the hooded sheep in the foreseeable future.

See young McGregor still getting abuse on here. Don’t need the papers to do a hatchet job on the bhoy when you have CQN.

Must be some life being perfect and never making a mistake. Seriously weird people.

Support on a blog means little mate. I don’t believe Ronny has what it takes but that would never be taken into a stadium.

Heard some cock on the radio say the ronny roar was a fake attempt at looking passionate .

I sincerely hope the team are reading and hearing this crap and get out there and scrap for every ball … show the media we are celtic … champions again. .. sicken the Bassas

  18. Stivs, thanks for your posts earlier re Lubo, makes your heart beat faster and brings a tear to the eye. What a player, what a player.

By the way for anyone that hasn’t seen the U20 highlights from yesterday, see them on youtube and enjoy Patrick Robert’s footwork. He has a wonderful first touch and he’s two footed – check out his goal. Hope he plays tomorrow.

  19. Weefra all good here mate was chuffed to see you and a few others returning to the blog recently, you guys make it for me. I don’t get to very many games these days, must try harder, but I would like to get along to cqn corner at some point and meet up with some of you, I’ve never done that. Anyhoo, about bedtime for bonzo…

It’s the same one Fr Morton was in our parish 1989-1995…..

We have a parish priest who is a kid, he is absolutely magic, my good lady who has no religion thinks he is amazing, the youngest parish priest our parish (if not any other) has had…. I question my faith daily but it dies more good than harm ! Before this priest our parish has only had 7 parish priest in 134years…… Hopefully the Tories/SNP don’t tax his pension

  21. We need to become a supporter run club. No Ifs or buts. It’s the only way forward for right or wrong.

How are you ya big handsome dude, oops sorry, wrong ghuy. Lol. Totally agree with yer post. We really must stand up to this contemptuous msm and hopefully withdraw our purchases of their crap, soonest. Not holding my breath. HH kiddo.

Watching those videos again lubo and henrik were geniuses.

What tends to be forgotten is how hard they were as well.

    Nobody ever really bullied them

  26. Ha ha cheers weefra, and I dont doubt it, I just need to find it! I’ll wear my cqn hat, obviously. Any way, seriously, bedtime, apologies for no other replies!

Night everyone, take care and hail hail to all great Celtic supporters.

  27. Saint Stivs…from earlier bang on defenders defend, midfielders marshal their area and STRIKERS score goals with add LNS from the affore mentioned.

    This says it all…

“Martin had clear ideas. He would tell me: ‘Lubo, I do not want to see you come back and take the ball from the centre-backs and play the easy pass. I want you near the penalty box to make passes and score goals. This is your job for the team.’” He added: “Martin was clear with me: ‘If you do that, I kick you up the bum’.” Lubo on manager Martin O’Neill.
