Rebellious behaviour will last for years

916

It will surprise no one that Uefa have charged our football club with “the displaying of an offensive banner and setting off of fireworks [sic]by fans”, this action was as inevitable as the dawn.  At least some of our number believes setting off flares in a football stadium is a reasonable action and that provoking European football’s governing body is a smart thing to do.

In terms of protest, “**** Uefa” is not quite up there with Martin Luther’s Thesis or what we’ve witnessed in the Arab world this year.  It’s simple rebellious behaviour, which some of us are compelled by in our teens and a few take a long time to shake off.

Forget calls to self-police, I’ve never seen it work with a football support.  Ever.  If you think you are going to convince anyone the folly of profane banners, flares or even IRA chanting at a football game, save your breath.  Those who are up for the protest (whatever the subject is) are more likely to find your call for restraint as complicity.

This series of protest and consequence will run for years, will split the support and damage Celtic.  Neither the club nor the support has the leadership to do anything about it.  Copy and paste the thoughts you write on the subject, you can use them again without having to retype.

Not being converse with the workings of the HMRC, gleaning all my info from RTC, he seems to be just keeping the wolf from the door re his non/late payment of PAYE and NI.

Considering his history and the fact that the big case is ongoing, the appeal of the wee bill, I am surprised that HMRC are allowing this to carry on.

Time will tell if HMRC know what they are doing.

what is to stop swally spending this cash unless its siezed by some creditor, which at this time, doesnt seem to be likely

If the Multi billionaire guy who owns the huns is going to “bump” the taxman, by not paying his bills, why is there pressur on him to sell sell selll

If the multi billionaire does sell sell sell, isnt there a danger that the tax man would arrest that money anyway, so where is his incentive to sell, before the “bumping” happens. ie might as well owe 60 million quid when you go bankrupt as 50 million quid

In each of the cases the tax man (who doesn’t do deals, especially not any more) didn’t have over 25% of the amount owed to non secured/prefered creditors. This allowed all of the cases to escape admin with a penny in the pound CVA.

The tax man in rangers case controls the vote in the CVA because they are owed more than 50 % of this debt.

Remember what I said about the tax man who doesn’t do deals?

It’s an interesting question. What’s to stop HMRC from presenting a winding up order now? It wants to big tax case to conclude. It wants a shot at the £50 million. Sell all their players, sell the Brox, sell Murray Park, sell whatever is left to Newco. Who knows? The floating charge is a bit of a pain, right enough.

very good m8 thanks for the info

i understand that the multi billionaire chap who owns the huns is a secured creditor for 18 million quid

is it correct that he gets his money before the taxman

ie the huns would need to give the billionaire 18 million in cash or players contracts or the stadium itself

then the huns go bust and dont pay the taxman a curdie (sp)

the billionaire owns the park and starts a new company called RFC 2012 or something like that

his pals then chip in a few million quids here and there to refinance the club and off they go again

what happens to the players contracts?

do we have to rely on the integrity of the other SPL teams to ensure that the huns dont get back into the spl

cos a few on here are not even sure we can rely on our board to stop this

    Re the naming of songs:

If the club gave us a list of 100 songs to not sing, someone would find the one they missed off the list. If they gave us a thousand, ditto. It is a question of “the spirit of the law versus the letter of it”. There are some being deliberately obtuse in this discussion.

ernie lynch to Burnley78: You’d have taken down the Tricolour, wouldn’t you?

The Tric isn’t the problem – I can’t see any way in which the Tricolour or A Soldier’s Song could be deemed offensive to any “normal person” and that is one I would like to see in court. Indeed indeed Fields of Athenry or most of our other songs would not be a problem.

We DO know that Celtic Symphony’s chorus is an issue (ironic that we’ve been told for years not to amend lyrics of songs but for that one we need to!) and BOTOB has definitely been singled out for its “joined the IRA” lyrics (yeah, yeah I know).

The problem is now that some have raised the stakes so high, by not heeding warnings from the club (that flew the flag and defended its right to) and the manager (who has experienced more bigotry than any many should), that the establishment are using a legal sledgehammer to crack a nut.

The “supporters” are definitely not the problem, but some who rebel against any sort of direction, even that in their and the club’s best interest, or nuggets that write big sweary words then hope to hide behind the club are.

Indications are that two of the remaining SPL members would need to say no to Newco.

Paul67 assures us Celtic will say no. Thank God, although nothing else would make any sense given what we’ve all been through, not least in the last three seasons. I repeat, nothing else would make any sense. Lots of people anticipate that the board will cosy up and let them back in because the games against them are too valuable. I don’t buy it, and never have.

Assume Celtic say no to Newco, we require one other right-thinking club to stand up. Rangers have plenty of friends among the other clubs, up to and including season ticket holders in boardrooms. This is worrying.

The comforting places I go to in my mind when contemplating this are, in no particular order:

    – Hearts. Strange, right? But it’s still Vlad we’re talking about (unfortunately for the Berrrrrs it’s not David Murray). Vlad is well and truly scunnered with Scottish football and with bearing the brunt of HMRC’s public opprobrium. Given the chance to share the shame around a bit, showing that what has happened to him can also happen to Scotland’s second biggest institution after the Kirk, I think he will bite their hand off.

    – St Mirren. Well enough run club. New stadium. Possibly pick some supporters up from the demise of their neighbours? Possibly even the less benighted of them?

    – Hibs. I know, but their board might come under some fan pressure. Hibs have had to sell a generation’s worth of best players to build a new stadium. It’s now the best outside Glasgow. An improved chance of getting into Europe in future seasons to make the most of it? Why not? They have an ambitious new manager and will not need to sell players in the years ahead.

    – Aberdeen. Fan pressure. Increased chances of European football.

    – Dundee United. Fan pressure. Increased chances of European football.

    – Inverness. A strange one indeed, given that season-tickets among boardroom members comment. However, there is a key point to make here. Any club looking good for relegation will have to say no to Newco, otherwise they are chucking away a get out of jail free card. If Rangers die, the other eleven will stay up. There will be no relegation. It will be rubbish, but it will be survival.

Here is a further point. Even if Newco get into the SPL, God forbid, they will start on zero points. If they say they are not picking up Rangers’ tab because they are not Rangers, they will not be picking up Rangers’ points either, ten-point deduction or no ten-point deduction. They can’t have it both ways. If the big tax case first tier tribunal reconvenes in January, the estimates are that it could be Easter before all the results are in. If that’s when Newco become an SPL club, they could have a 20-odd point shortfall to make up in under two months and will get relegated anyway.

Laugh? As I’ve said before, I’ll even think about buying a Scottish newspaper again.

I was suggesting that WE, the support, provide a list of songs that we deem as a complete list and let the ‘authorities’ respond on which are not acceptable to them – along with their reasoning. This could then be debated in a mature manner by applying the rules of fair and reasonableness. IF they don’t object then they cant act when those songs are sung.

I personally like to celebrate my Irish heritage and my political leanings in the company of like-minded friends – out of the earshot of anyone who might be ‘offended’ and have never sung any of the songs under debate at a football match.

    ………….

If they go into liquidation during the season, a newco will not be allowed in this season, the SPL will continue withh 11 clubs, every game played by them already played and those still to happen wil be 3-0 to their opposition and rthere will bbe no relegation. The newco would have a legal fight with the team who win the 1st division if they get invited back.

  30. is this a celtic site or rangers site .come on forget about them on here. the big picture is we have to win this seasons league no ifs or buts .so forget about slagging them off ,and remember we have critizised them for the last 3 seasons and low and behold who won these last 3 league titles?
