Recruiting players of CCV and Jota quality

245

Last summer Celtic concluded the permanent transfers of Cameron Carter-Vickers and Jota, both previously on loan at the club, early in the summer, as did free agent Aaron Mooy.  We did not need to contend with selling clubs for any of these deals, as options had already been signed with Tottenham and Benfica.

The only other new contracted player who made any impression on the season was Sead Haksabanovic, he arrived in the final week of the window.

Two years ago, during Ange Postecoglou’s first window, Liel Abada arrived early, Kyogo and Carl Starfelt (only just) joined for the start of the league campaign, and Joe Hart arrived a few days later.  Those we paid transfer fees for that summer came from peripheral markets, not dissimilar to the business we have done this year.

The business carried out in the last two summers was exceptional and exactly what the club needed.  Much of the important work, specifically brining Carter-Vickers and Jota to the club, had to wait until deadline day.

You, me, Brendan, the board and the ballboys know there are gaps in the squad.  Filling them with players of Carter-Vickers and Jota quality is difficult, but that is what Celtic are trying to do right now.  If work like this was easy, others would do it and we would not win so many trophies.

and you can give me an example of the club that gets every player development right ?

and every transfer a success ?

celtic are good at it, that is why we have lots of money in the bank.

    great strategy, brilliantly executed.

if you are in cash surplus it is a success, that is the metric that matters.

    ———————

Its a football club, the idea is to get the best team on the park in order to compete at the highest levels.

It’s not about keeping money in a bank.

Ange said last year thats its pointless having money in the bank if the team needs improved.

You, Turks and Burnley all sing from the same hymnsheet.

Its noticeable that you are nowhere to be found on other Celtic sites as you would be mocked endlessly.

This site is the only place you get away with talking rubbish.

Can you tell me the last trophy given out for having the best balance sheet?

I find it impossible to believe that you are a tim

Since when did scoring 4 against Ross county and 3 away from home at an Aberdeen team that finished third last season show a specific problem on the wings?

when did that become not good enough?

They didn’t do well against killie but nobody did. A lot of it was down to the tactics

Knowing nothing about football,AND being a” Secret Hun”.(Well not so secret,Lambert 14,spilt the beans),I was thinking, could the fact we are missing,3 of our back 4,from last season, the survivor,Taylor having to adapt to a different style, our brilliant Hatate,Aaron Mooy.,from midfield, and the possibly irreplaceable Jota gone ,have any bearing ?.Thats 6 of our top performers missing at the one time for various reasons.

I know they were more than a bit flakey defensively last night but I really like the PSV manager. His post match assessment was excellent.

He even said they were looking to sign a good centre back. They have been for some time but can’t get anyone good enough in their budget. Thry have to be patient.

I hope he doesn’t look at CQN for inspiration or help. Loads of experts on here can tell him what’s wrong. Few seem to have a clue as to any solutions though.

Not a single suggestion anywhere on here as to who we should sign from all the gurus who have of course spotted that our new signings are duds after less than 90 minutes meaningful game time on grass.

I could give you a host of names from a number of countries in Europe.

Cna you explain why you want to know that?

  13. I’m posting here for more years than I care to remember.

I cannot remember a year when the place wasn’t full of doom & gloom, around this time of the year, Transfer Window was Shite, we were handing a Title to the Huns to keep them afloat etc etc.

Yet for the past 12 years we have won trophy after trophy, can’t remember any Poster coming on and saying I got it wrong early Season.

We have been one of the most successful Clubs in the World at domestic level over past 12 years.

Obviously we are being left behind in Europe and to be honest the way Football has gone, it’s hard to see that changing as long as we are confined to the SPL.

There are obviously a few Hun interlopers sowing their darnel but there are plenty of our own losing the plot.

The dust will clear over next fortnight, we will know for sure who is in and out, and our team will settle down and the results will speak for themselves.

I don’t have a Crystal Ball, I don’t know who might yet be brought in, how the team will gel for Brendan, how good or bad the Huns will be, how we will get on in Europe, but I am looking forward to finding out.

Quite simply I enjoy Celtic, I can’t do anything that would change anything so I’m not going to worry, just looking forward to Saturday,

To think we lost to Hibs in the last visit, the gap is cavernous.

Hibs spent around £1M in summer, Aston Villa bought two players for £40M so 5-0 seems about right.

It doesn’t auger well for Celtic in Europe and eight days of a transfer window isn’t going to help too much

Never mind the cliché about “Lawwell” occupying rent-free space in your heads.

Some Celtic fans’ backs must hurt like hell with all the hate and resentment they carry.

If a team wins a treble one season and a double the following season?

They’ve scooped 83% of domestic trophies on offer.

Celtic have won seventeen trophies in seven seasons. That’s 81%.

Can some on here (and elsewhere) reflect on these stats?

    Over a seven year period

during which the blue bogeyman was open for business

we’ve almost averaged a treble followed by a double.

This is unprecedented. Even Jock couldn’t win as many.

We should all be doing our best Cheshire cat impersonation.

The 30-year-old kept the Lionesses’ hopes alive by diving low to her left and catching Jennifer Hermoso’s spot-kick, and let her emotions get the better of her by screeching expletives at the top of her lungs.

Fans were absolutely loving it on social media, with one person even asking her to be handed a damehood. “Insane passion from Mary Earps, telling the Spaniards to f*** off haha get in.”

‘Absolutely adore Mary Earps’ full commitment to crazy goalkeeper energy,’ chimed in another.

So good for Josh Kerr. Maginificent run and respectful recognition of his family and the support they have given him.

10 years ago Josh’s older brother and my son played rugby in South Africa together. His parents and my wife and I went over to watch a few games. A young 14 year old Josh came with his parents. Such was this lads dedication and his parents support that they ensured that every day for 3 weeks he had the facilities to complete his training schedule. He was totally focused on achieving what he finally achieved tonight.

To see the personal and family dedication finally deliver its ultimate aim of a world championship gold in a blue riband event really was something special. The genuine tears of joy of his parents is the product of a decade of sacrifice and support.

I’m more anxious about how much money I’ve got to spend (or not) , and have more sleepless nights than milionaire Celtic coaches who I’m very content to let get on with the job, whoever they are. So are the vast silent season ticket majority who unlike us tend not to bump their devices on blogs.

We’ve signed six players, some of whom haven’t hit the ground running and Brendan hasn’t had his football troubles to seek. It’s a bit rich to see his new demeanour changing so close to the end of the market, where he’s now parroting the ‘ quality ‘ word.

Good if we manage to snare even one or two, (hopefully not from England) but they won’t take us out of Pot 4, a good showing in Europa is the baby step we should be taking.

It’s been explained on here dozens of times that ‘ pure quality ‘ doesn’t really rate Celtic or Scotland not least the ones that think they’ll get better leagues or salaries elsewhere, very good players get offski JJ Gio Jota CS blah blah blah.

Brendan knew the constraints and he accepted them along with his fantasy money salary. Did he tell Dermot Desmond at his series of interviews his budget wouldn’t buy ‘quality’?, would he have been given the job, if he had?

    I think not CSC

They are a ‘well off’ family but their dedication ‘week in and week out’ to support both their kids traveling length and breadth of the country whilst both also working for much of the time is commendable.
