Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

Have the SFA banned the wearing of the green yet?

Have the RST called for Catholocism to be formally recognised as sectarian yet?

Sadly can’t see it, but can you imagine the uproar had it been the other way around, it would make national headlines.

  3. Radio 4 today had a programme about the battle of Britain. One of the RAF pilots needs reporting for sectarianism. He was on about bashing the Hun.

Disgraceful. He’s on the FF banned list I presume….

Thanks for your heads up re the Sky Arts schedule tonight. The Anarchy in Manchester is an excellent series. Six shows in the series. 1992 looks interesting too. Cheers bud.

I feel the time is right for all Celtic supporters to boycott the semi final. Time to hurt the SFA financially.

What’s the purpose of the staged Vincent Lunny comments on the citing of JG? He isn’t doing that off his own back and it smacks of SFA subterfuge. Are they changing tack on the basis of the complaint now that Celtic have queried it?

CFC should start by challenging the SFA instead of acquiescing in their cheating and incompetence

Unlike Celtic it would seem I’m not even remotely surprised that John Guidetti’s Dutch interview has found it’s way to the compliance officer. From the minute I watched it on Celtic social media, I knew that there would be repercussions.

What some Celtic fans don’t appreciate is that the SFA are Huns and the Huns are the SFA, we live in a country in deep mourning whilst pretending they follow Sevco, the hatred is one hundred fold, filled with bitterness , grievance, and revenge.

This has been the case since 2012 but has become increasingly worse from the moment Sevco fiddled the new licence from the same SFA until when it was clear the new club was also very likely, and still is, to go under.

It will not change the real hooligans are wearing blue blazers, and it’s always been the same in Scotland which remains deeply anti Irish, anti Catholic, and deeply anti Celtic.

There is no legal argument that will save John Guidetti no one is safe, in a Kangaroo court , with trumped up illegal charges . There are no lawyers who will be able to convince deeply offended ‘judges’, just ask Aleksandar Tonev.

So an organisation, headed by a man who oversaw a sectarian employment policy, is citing a football player for using the word Hun? Yer kiddin!

  15. The rst rats have literally become Scotland’s largest and most influential pressure group.

Nothing ….he seems to be an SFA stooge masquerading ( or attempting to)as an impartial commentator

  17. Having read Lunnys statement they are saying JG brought the game into disrepute for saying the huns are Deid….he goes on about it not being a laughing matter when people lost their jobs…..That is how they are gonna play this one….

  18. prestonpans bhoys on

This RST statement indicates that criminal prosecutions had taken place against fans for the use of the Hun word. Anyone aware of this?

  19. theglasgowcelticway on

When I pointed out Oldco’s sectarian history to someone on Facebook I was told that it was in the past. When I pointed out that a director was forced to resign last month for letting slip his Islamophobia I was told I was pathetic. Can’t beat an objective view.
