Referring to a team no longer with us

753

Let’s be clear, you cannot punish a player on the basis that he has made a comment which is only offensive, offence is subjective, highly so in Scottish football, where thousands await the opportunity.

Nor can you punish a player for a derogatory remark which may offend, especially if the remark does not call into question the probity of the subject.  “Hearts are rotten, we beat them easily twice this season”, is a derogatory remark and will offend some Hearts fans, but it also falls into the category of being a fair opinion.

And without pointing out the obvious, you cannot offend the dead.  John Guidetti and the club are right to contest this ridiculous charge, which by context, clearly refers to a team no longer with us.

I was absolutely astonished to read that newco (and former oldco) director, Paul Murray, explained Dave King’s absence from newco’s recent share as he is waiting until the SFA “have completed their review of Dave’s status before he can fully participate in the future of the Club”.

The SFA have no issue whatsoever in Dave King investing heavily in newco, or in owning all shares.  Indeed, King is already the largest shareholder, which has attracted no attention from the football authorities.

The prospect of King sloping off if the SFA judge him not Fit and Proper (which I think they will), is a fabulous twist in the work of this legendary non-executive director of a dead club.  He sat on the oldco board which paid EBTs for so many years, he stayed while they made no provision for the HMRC tax case, plunging into the transfer market instead.  Now he awaits the whim of the SFA before deciding to invest, having led newco away from their primary source of funding.

What a star.

  1. Dearest Campbell (Mr Ogilvie to me and you) is not getting a wee job at FIFA, according to the latest news. How can this be? The man is a super duper administrator, with portraits in every Masonic and Orange Lodge in Scotland. He has never taken an illegal payment in his life (wait till HMRC catch up with him and the rest)—well, maybe something for a good night out.

Jim Boyce retires from FIFA this year.

He is an ex-chairman of Cliftonville.

He led the way in N.I. in trying to combat sectarianism.

Maybe he doesn’t know how brilliant old Campbell is.

Maybe on the other hand he does.

I’d be happy to boycott both the semi and the final if it could be achieved. Alas that would require a number of things:

    1. people like HT and TD to agree not to go (unlikely as they always put attending ahead of anything else). Remember when Celts for Change were active 16,000 were still happy to enter at all costs.

    2. the CSA to lead. Apart from their Life of Brian democracy abstention from responsibility and action they are unlikely to lead a dug never mind the support.

    3. the co-operation of the club who I suspect want the spondoolies come what may.

Apart from that it should be a dawdle.

  3. Am I alone in thinking that King has allowed himself to be quoted as saying that if the SFA find against him, he will simply run Sevco from the background?

I am sick of 3 years of seeing swaggering, bullying huns reinvent themselves as victims, and I am even sicker of watching a corrupt football governing body and Scottish state help them do it.

Don’t see or hear Celtic making much of a stand.

Glad to note that about half of the picks for this coming weekend are already in. For those still pondering, read on…

    The week 2 fixtures –

It’s International Weekend coming up so could be a wee bit trickier then week 1 proved to be.

Remember that if you did fall at the first hurdle then you can always consider an application under Rule 6 – “If you fall out in weeks 1 to 3 (inclusive) you have the option of restoring your ‘fit and proper competitor’ status and paying your way back in with a further £10 donation [you can do this if you are unsuccessful in weeks 1, 2 and/or 3 and can do so more than once – this is, after all primarily about raising funds;-) ].

You can send in your selection by following this link – cqnlastmanstanding@gmail.com – but please then put ‘WEEK 2 SELECTION’ in the subject line so that it’s easy to identify the picks in our very busy inbox. If you have any separate questions just send a fresh email and we’ll get back to you as soon as we can.

Absolutely. They are all in it together including SMSM who began to ramp things up from the moment the ink on the R.I.P Rangers pages was dry. We owe a debt of gratitude in the part they all played in hastening liquidation.

The realisation that Celtic didn’t have an ‘armageddon’ but thrived on the demise of Rangers is the bitterest pill they’ve had to swallow.

From strength to strength have gone Celtic, to the phoney semi final where ‘they’ were allowed by ‘this country’ to reintroduce songs banned by UEFA in 2005, whilst they hit a brick wall on the park, with their wee diddy team.

The SFA, SMSM, Sevco all huns all in a mess together with the zombie club continuing to flat line, the more the Celtic success, the more we hear from a compliance officer.

  15. Campbell Ogilvie has been at the heart of the biggest problems in scottish football. He was the RFC company secretary who administered the sectarian signing policy until Murray changed it. He was Murrays company secretary who administered the EBTs ( that he claimed to know nothing about although he also had his own EBT). He was the SFA President who tried to bring the Phoenix club back into the top division against all the SFA rules.

I can easily imagine with old friends such as Walter acting as go betweens he is actively working to help King on his fit and proper person routine.

Campbell OGilvie represents everything that is wrong with the SFA . It is still an outdated , poor performing , institutionally sectarian organisation. It is no surprise the charges levelled against Guidetti when the leader of the SFA has a track record of administering bigotry, tax evasion and cheating.

The SFA cannot be taken seriously until Ogilvie is removed and a man such as Turnbull Hutton takes over.

FIFA would be well advised to steer clear of someone who makes Sepp Blatter look like Mother Theresa.

  16. sixtaeseven - Gardez la Foi on

Wouldn’t it be great if Charlie Hebdo’s next front page was:

    “Les huns sont mort”

    or

    “Liberer John G”

That would put the spotlight on the SFA and the president’s man responsible for determining which players, coaches and other officials should face disciplinary charges. Mr Custard?

Apparently it will no longer be the Oxford English Dictionary.Nil By Mouth, will now be responsible for determining which words are acceptable and which are not.
