Respectfully disagree, Neil

907

I like Neil Lennon.  If Neil Lennon is talking about football, I shut up and listen.  But I respectfully disagree on other subjects.  If the last three years have taught us anything it’s that Celtic don’t need oldco or newco Rangers.  Unequivocally, Celtic Park is quieter since Rangers liquidated, the level of competition we previously had added many to the gates, none of us feel the anxiety of genuine sporting challenge, but so what?

If Celtic sell 40,000 instead of 50,000 season tickets are we mortally wounded?  The accounts would suggest otherwise.  Does it mean we cannot compete in Europe?  I refer to Neil’s record.  Does it mean we cannot attract quality players?  Well, it means we will not be able to attract some players, but I’m more than happy with the calibre of players we’ve recruited at the moment.  Good riddance to the parts of Celtic that went out the door when Rangers were flushed down the Liquidation Lavvy.

I’m going to cut Neil some slack.  I’ve been among Rangers fans and been generous enough to acknowledge income will rise at Celtic if newco ever reach the top flight.  It costs nothing to be magnanimous.

What we do need is competition, the like of which Aberdeen have given us in the league this season and they and Dundee United may provide next season, if current trends continue.    Congratulations are due to Hearts, who won the Championship before the clocks went forward, an incredible display of dominance, but as our two cup wins against them this season (3-0, 0-4) proves, they are miles away from providing the level of competition we see from Aberdeen.

Don’t have time to get dragged into a larger debate at the moment, but whenever Scottish football next turns its mind to strategic development, how to bolster Aberdeen and United should be top of the agenda.  I enjoyed our four games against United this month and the recent league game against Aberdeen.  More of them would be welcome.

We have a league split at the moment, where the top six hive off to play for the title, but it comes with only five games to play.  An earlier split, allowing us more games against those at the top, while creating more opportunity for teams at the bottom to pick up points from their peers, makes more sense.  Especially if more commercial income could be shared with the likes of Aberdeen and United.

Have you ever walked up Ben Nevis?  Will you ever do so?  It’s a big task if you are starting from scratch.  When is it safe, what do you wear, what if something goes wrong, how long will it take, what about nourishment along the way?

The Ben Nevis Huddle delivers much of what you need on a plate.  The Foundation have it all in hand.  You get to walk up the mountain with a couple of hundred other Celts.  They let you know what you need to know, check the weather for you and generally look out for things.  They have left no one on the mountain.  Yet.

What’s more, you get to do it in the name of Celtic FC Foundation, for our work with autism, downs, the homeless and destitute, those marginalised from our society, and those living in third world poverty.

It’s not the kind of thing you can sign up for the week before, the Foundation have lots to prep you for, so go sign up now.

  1. I agree with many of those on the blog – The Club have to fight this. In the the three games against Dundee U we had numerous assaults on our players that were ignored by MIB and the Compliance Officer. As far as I know the club have not taken any action regarding this – they should be doing everything possible to protect our players on and off the park.

It is the job of the SFA Word Polis to uncover and punish word-crime and word-criminals.

They use psychology and omnipresent surveillance (such as Sky sports and STV) to search, find, monitor and arrest members

of society with any connection whatever with Celtic FC, who could potentially challenge authority and status quo, even only by words, hence the name SFA Word Polis.

  7. Hun Batz, The Howler Monkey God (must have been a Tim that wrote the storyline:

Hun Batz and his twin brother Hun Chouen, led a contented life with their grandmother. Artists and musicians, everything they created was beautiful and enchanting, but they lacked their father’s talent for the ball game, Pitz.

Summoned to the underworld, their father, Hun Hunapu never returned. Instead his new offspring, half-brothers to Hun Batz and Hun Chauen, appeared. The Hero Twins were everything the original twins were not, strong, athletic, and clever. And they were extremely gifted at playing Pitz.

A jealous rivalry formed between the two sets of twins. The more they played ball together, the more Hun Batz and his brother were defeated. Eventually, the original twins resorted to foul tricks, aggressive tactics, and out-right cheating.

Frustrated with these antics, the Hero Twins kicked the ball into a tree, knowing Hun Batz and his brother considered themselves excellent climbers and would go after it. Yet, the higher they climbed, the taller the tree grew, until they could not get back down.

Pleased with their magic thus far, The Hero Twins encouraged Hun Batz and Hun Chouen to use their belts like tails in order to escape the terrible height. However, upon doing so, they were mysteriously and humiliatingly transformed into monkeys.

Though the Monkey Twins, as they are now called, came to be worshipped as Gods of Art and Music, the animosity they hold for the Hero Twins remains. Time has only sharpened their combined cunning, and they eagerly await a chance to strike back. Like any wound, their grudge has festered, and what was once a brotherly rivalry has grown into a far more deadly game.

Does this look like a ‘game changer’ for Xbox Video Games if the SFA prove their case against JG?

The interest for the club in challenging the word ‘hun’ being considered anything other than banter is that they may be liable for fines or punishments if the supporters use it during matches should it be deemed sectarian.

As for the fans, SFA findings don’t become the law of the land, otherwise we could just go about kicking each other in the face when offended by anything, a la Ciftci!

A court of Law would have to deem the word to be sectarian or offensive for supporters to be charged if they use it.

How many club fines or ground closures before that?

  9. So we now have a 22 year old Swedish man accused of some form of Sectarian abuse. There was also Tonev’s case. One I am still unsure about.

Any quick look at Rangers Media will show plenty of comments regarding Papes, Tarriers, unwashed.

Don’t roll over Celtic. Fight this.

  10. So the SFA charge John Guidetti for singing “the huns are deid” on Dutch TV in an interview for being offensive? Is it any coincidence that he is a loan player we are trying to sign? This is beyond parody now!

Meanwhile a convicted tax fraudster tries to convince the same organisation he is a fit and proper person.

What way do you think both of these things are going to go?

I presume that this is at the behest of King and his crew to establish their Hunnish credentials for the benefit of the rest of the Huns.

Seriously – it’s time someone challenged this properly in a court of law. Scotland is behaving like a banana republic all due to a deid fitba team – absolutely disgraceful.

  19. clogher celt,

You learn something new everyday, I learnt today that Davie Cooer passed on the same date as my wee mum, Cooper passed in 1995, wee Rose passed in 2008 (the day before her 81st birthday, she probably wanted to make sure we remembered her anniversary) anyway Davie Cooper at 39 is no age for anybody to lose a family member but without knowing him I will not pass judgement but I am sure when Maurice Johnston jumped ship and put his overseas tax before CeltIc a certain Mr Cooper wasn’t very happy, and I don’t think it was about his new teammates football ability, I might be incorrect (not for the first time) but that is what I am led to believe….. And as for John Guidetti, the SFA must be wanting a fight, Lee McCulloch can assault people and not a peep, John Guidetti quotes a wee ditty about the tax evaders “dying” and gets citied !!!!!!

CeltIc (& John Guidetti) fight this all the way…………..

For the last two weeks we have had a procession of Dundee United players and officials accusing Celtic players of cheating, of influencing referees and by extension accusing referees of being weak, and of aiding Celtic…….no laughing at the back now……….. And the today this! FFS!
