Result achieved for Celtic but Danny Lennon will see promise for Saturday

903

It’s difficult to analyse Celtic’s performance last night.  For much of the game the players were clearly enjoying themselves and should have been rewarded with more goals, but Dunfermline were incredibly porous in central midfield.  Ki and Commons were able to stage a passing master-class which was pleasing on the eye.

The fact that the deluge of goals didn’t come is not particularly concerning.  Celtic don’t make a habit of profligacy in front of goals, making chances is more of a problem, so it would be a mistake to read too much into one game.

While Dunfermline were out of the contest for most of the evening they also retained two strikers, something we seldom see from SPL visitors at Celtic Park, so that fact that they were able to construct an attempt at goal five minutes from time was not surprising.

Celtic got what they needed from the game but Danny Lennon, who brings St Mirren to Celtic Park on Saturday, will also have seen enough to let him form a decent game-plan, especially if Celtic play a 4-4-2 with two wingers, as they finished the game yesterday.

  5. Wont make the game on saturday due to a wee jaunt to Edinbugh, staying on George Street, but would like to “jook” the Christmas shopping and watch the game, anyone any suggestions where it might be shown?

  6. We seem to be coached until we reach the final third then our momentum stalls.

We then proceed to go sideways and backwards.

Off the ball movement is poor and we are still reliant on individual skill rather than team play to score,

The central midfield painting of Ki and Kayal does not offer any threat and is weak defensively.

We have some very good players in our squad but we are rarely a team.

    Last night highlighted this.

well done on your retirement, but let me , as one who did the same a couple of years back, give you some advice please.

Initially I thought won’t it be great on a cold miserable morning just have an exra half hour rather that get up to work. Yeah, sounds great. Now I’ll have time for those jobs around the house which until now I didn’t have the time to do. And so it goes on, until—- you get up one day and say what shall I do today. Then a you start doing silly stuff and then you get a bit bored and all that.

My advice to you is to keep your brain active, always plan what you’re going to do the next day. So, keep busy and enjoy your retirement, you’ve earned it.

    Hail Hail

  8. We have a manager who complains when the fans voice their displeasure over the teams performance. Perhaps he should take a long hard look at himself, and question how or why is the team kicking the ball into the corners to waste time against one of the worst teams to have ever played in the SPL. He should also ask himself why we still cannot defend a long ball through the middle, or take a penalty.

Maybe he could also reflect on a wasteful and lazy front partnership, who cannot hold the ball up, and who continually make no effort to get in the penalty box for crosses.

If the team was as half as good as the fans, we would be Champions League Winners, not also rans to a bankrupt Rangers.

I knew yesterday that the huns would try to drive a wedge between the support and manager. It’ll not work.

As it was the fire service – 4 days on 4 days off it was actually only 15+ years service.

You’ll still have your second job to keep you busy ;-)

“Are you trying to suggest that I am perhaps not a Celtic Fan ? Maybe you should take your blinkers off.”

Maybe you should go and clean your brown brogues instead of wasting time on here.

While I would agree that missing a few chances when you are two goals up is not a disaster the fact is that we have scored on 29 goals in 15 SPL games. That needs to improve. We scored four against Hibs and three against Rennes after starting with Stokes up front so we can do it. If Neil wants to show our midfielders how to make a forward pass through defenders then look no further than Messi’s pass to Xavi for Barcalona’s winning goal against AC Milan last night. Look and learn!

  17. Mort,

    Not entirely sure where!!!

Mrs and I just go over and we jump in the taxis when they arrive!!

Although I’ll definitely be in Biddy’s on Saturday afternoon at 3pm for a couple of beers.

  18. According to reports Manchester United are one of several big clubs who are keen on Dundee United youngster Scott Allan.

The Scottish Sun claims Scotland Under-21 ace Allan could sign for a compensation fee of around £300,000.

He has rejected a new deal at Tannadice after attracting interest from Manchester United, Celtic, Newcastle United amongst others.

Neil Lennon has spoken of his admiration for the youngster but Rangers are now pushing to steal a march on their rivals.

    Is this lad any good?

  19. Mort,

Yes, I saw that. Wonder why they have 0-0 as the score.

Maybe I’ll get onto Paddy Power!!

Maybe you would be more at home with the “no one likes us, we don’t care brigade”. You show all the signs of the same ability to be unable to see what is happening before your eyes.

I did not realise that Celtic is owned by you and you alone, so is the word “we” not allowed, maybe the words in the Celtic Song will have to be changed.
