Back briefly before I immerse myself in the Olympics, talking of which the location of the earlier ‘boat on the world’ was indeed at the corner of George Square, identified by Voguepunter.
It is actually at the top of the Merchants building opposite the City Chambers. The boat is a model of ‘The Bonny Nancy’, a clipper owned by John Glassford (Glassford Street) – probably the most powerful Tobacco lord of his age and also a man steeped in the slave trade.
Anyway I’ve added a picture that shows the sculpture at the top of the building .
