RODGERS NAMES EURO SQUAD

CRISTIAN GAMBOA may get a shock call-up for only his third first team appearance when Celtic take on Zenit St Petersburg tomorrow night.

The Costa Rican international right-back’s last outing came in the 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich in the Champions League encounter in Germany on October 18.

Gamboa also played in the 1-0 win over Dundee at Parkhead four days earlier.

However, with Mikael Lustig dropping out with an Achilles problem, there could be a place for the 28-year-old defender who cost £1million when Brendan Rodgers bought him from West Brom in August 2016.

The champions have been hammered by injuries in this campaign with Scotland internationals Craig Gordon, Stuart Armstrong and Leigh Griffiths forced to watch the action against the Russians from the stands.

Also out are Dedryck Boyata, Patrick Roberts, Jonny Hayes and Anthony Ralston, who is still battling back from his knee problem.

Marvin Compper, bought for £1million from RB Leipzig last month, is also sidelined through injury, but was ineligible after playing for his German team in Europe earlier this term.

However, Aussie playmaker Tom Rogic has been named in Rodgers’ pool although there seems little chance he will start tomorrow night’s game against Roberto Mancini’s side.

The provisional squad is: De Vries, Tierney, Hendry, Ajer, Gamboa, Simunovic, Ntcham, Brown, Bitton, McGregor, Rogic, Musonda, Forrest, Sinclair, Dembele, Edouard, Kouassi, Miller and Bain.
