And release! Ronny Deila had to go and a few minutes ago, Celtic confirmed that he will leave at the end of the season. I’ve bitten my tongue on this online for months, as I once before suggested we sack a manager here (April 2008) and very quickly regretted it, but as anyone I’ve spoken to privately will tell you, it’s been clear we were on the wrong track since our Champions League exit in August.
The news broke in Norway that he was leaving a few days ago, which forced everyone’s hands to make an announcement now, but I’m glad he’s going to be with us to see the league title won. It doesn’t matter who the competition is, winning the league means lots to many of us, and we’re about to part company with only the second manager in our history not to lose a league title.
For that, he will always be welcome. It would have been absurd to sack a manager two games away from winning the league.
Ronny arrived with a plan for playing football which was cruelly exposed as inadequate in Warsaw, as Legia picked us off. That was acceptable, but the plan never changed. Neither did the results in Europe. We went down to Maribor and Malmo in the same manner.
I’d never heard of Ronny before his appointment but I backed the decision at the time, as he fitted the profile of manager I wanted: not a reject from England, someone who had overachieved with a club in Europe, a student of the game. The remit was right but the candidate was wrong. I still want someone to fit that remit, as opposed to an unemployed manager who has been through the English circuit.
While I would have made the same appointment, the board take responsibility for managerial appointments, good and bad, and they got this one wrong and deserve criticism.
You will note among the appropriate criticism that one journalist, banned from Celtic Park for nearly two years for lying, has used Celtic’s current vulnerability to swing his toe-capped boots.
This is Operation Destabilise Celtic, it’s an alternative strategy to apologising for lying about Celtic, or not lying about Celtic again. It has the hallmarks of an organised PR campaign. You know the script.
Ronny, all the very best and thanks for the Roar. Go win the league with some style.

Davy Moyes.
“SHOW ME THE MONEY.SHOW ME THE MONEY” I’m paraphrasing of course.

‘it is not unusual for opposition politicians to change their tune on assuming power.’
###
That’s a piss poor argument, but I suppose it’s all you’ve got.
I tell you what is unusual though. Not just unusual but unheard of for a mainstream political party. Forbidding dissent from the party line or any criticism of anyone in the party.
That’s why no one from the SNP has criticised this Act, or any other nat policy. They’re not allowed to.
If the word progressive had never been brought into the English language would Nicola Sturgeon pause for large parts of her interviews?
Plus…Plus….I Think .LAWWELL for The OFF…just saying like..
TWISTS N TURNS
That quote clearly isn’t from Moyes. For instance, there isn’t even a mention of “Rangers” in there…
A lot of talk has been around Ronny’s tactical nous or lack of, his inability to learn from previous mistakes. I’m not saying these arguments are without merit, but.
are the pitfalls of this season somewhat simpler. The loss of two accompished centre backs at the season’s start had massive repercussions. Replacing VIrgil and Denayer with Boyata and Blackett.
Allowing scepovic to go on loan without a replacement leaving us with one reliable goalscorer for the whole season. Said striker is now not surprisingly looking mentally and physically jaded.
The early season form of Gordon was also affected by the ropey central defence.
Does anyone think we would have got done by molde, home and away with Denayer partnering VVD?
I’m not saying Ronny should stay but allowing critical areas of your team to be obliterated at the start of the season is lunacy.
The team this season has never felt settled and Ronny might and should harbour blame but is not the sole culprit.
DIAMOND JACKSON….To Takeover From PL…Can i Hear a YES…
Celtic need to address the media in Scotland. our PR department either sucks or is underfunded (probably the latter since our media in general is amateurish – see celtictv which has frustrated me too many times at 4am). Its about time we responded more with facts – we just don’t get the same balance of reporting that sevco do.

At least you are consistent mate.
We seem to be adopting the same selective memory, regards Sunday.
The statistics may have shown us to have had more shots, but that lot were motivated, well beyond what was instilled in lot.
They wanted that win badly.
Contrast with what our “nice guy” set out to do with our team. Blood and snotters required, win the battle, then the match in any game against our mortal enllmy.
Somebody on CQN used the term appeasement to describe the manager’s tactic. Spot on just like Chamberlain.
How many actually know Deila is a nice guy ?
Sid,
Re KevJ and his “critique’ of Gary Caldwell.
Go back to Celtic v Spartak Moscow in the final CL qualifying game in August 2007…it’s penalties….guess who is the man who takes that first one …..striding forward like a man on a mission to stop me biting my nails before I reached my elbows….a feckin rock…..look at his face ……what a penalty…what a man…what a night…Thanks Gary!
For those who haven’t seen or don’t remember that night.

Hibs will win the cup for the first time in 114 years against the forces of darkness 4 year olds.
Sunshine on Leith. Great anthem!
I Said it Ages ago( go check)…
Warbutton will get a job in england when Ronny is a forgotten number in Scandanavia..Ronnys a Dud..Full Stop..End Of..
Our PR department thought it was a good idea to tell Celtic fans to have a wash destroying that old line “All publicity is good publicity.”

Have you never heard of The Three Lined Whip.
A very effective way of keeping down dissent.
Piss poor argument or not, it is still true.
As I have pointed out before, Labour MP’s whose consciences would not allow them to support Tory John Major’s war in Iraq had no qualms about supporting Labour Tony Blair’s war in Iraq.
what would have happened had we won the penalty shoot out ?
Matt Stewart,
Funny enough I mentioned Garys penalty just the other day in a blog convo with HT.
HH
Bgx,
Ronny has won and will win more top flight titles than the Warbs.
End of.

There is only one way for Celtic to address the media in Scotland. That is a blanket ban on it. Hit it in the pocket.
My guess is that Celtic don’t have the Haw Maws for it.
Lenny has been given encouragement I reckon.
The purpose of that could be to squeeze out other interest.. Or to test the fans response ( must be a factor)….
Davy Moyes has £10m’s so he can afford to be choosy

If Leighs free kick had bounced off the keepers back into the net … ronny would be in a job
With all the speculation about a new coach , I wonder what the future of Collins and Kennedy will be.
No word from the Club.
Any significance in that?

Don’t understand the anti Gary Caldwell vibe on here. His Christian name being wrongly spelt with only one r is all I have against him. Done wonders at Wigan. Clever bhoy.
TBJ
Obviously ….but hopefully only until the end of the season
so no change there
Would they have been foolish enough to leave him in charge for another season
Possibly….scary thought

Jimmy McGrory is the Scottish record goal scorer still.
As far as I remember, Jimmy and Jock Stein are the only Celtic managers not to have had the blood lust (c. TV2 Norway) treatment from Scotland’s media.
Jimmy was an affable easy going gentleman who was simply Bob Kelly’s man in the front office. Manager for nearly twenty years, 1945 to 1965, it’s doubtful if he ever selected a team. Bob Kelly ran the show. Jimmy never really threatened old Rangers’ ambitions, though he was manager on 19th October 1957, the occasion of the 7-1 record cup final score, the only trophy win Celtic managed from 1954 to 1965 (and I was there.)
Jock wore the apron and gauntlets. He certainly shook up the old order, the original 9 in a row, the Big Cup, etc., but his membership of the brotherhood shielded him from attack by his brethren. I believe it’s as simple as that.
Looks like the only way to avoid the mischievous attention of Smsm is to pose no threat to new TRFCL, or to appoint a man with connections.
Mibaes aye and mibaes naw.
(That’s how we all speak in Scotland these days. Apparently).
I’m more interested in the various backroom staff that RD is supposed to have brought in. If they’ve to be replaced as well it will be a bit of an upheaval. Better to start the process now than in the close season. But then, it’s all just tinkering isn’t it?

Me I don’t support any cult.
As for politics. Apart from the Tories I suppose at some time or another I will have voted for a number of parties.
Have only ever been a member of on party, Labour. And that was many moons ago.
The proof of OBA will be when those currently mouthing off about it get into power or there is a minority SNP government.
Caldwell may be over looked for reasons similar to Lenny… Not so much his professional as his extra curricular activities…

And in the meantime hell will freeze over before any nat politician dares to breathe a word of criticism of the Act.
That’s the behaviour of a cult, not a political party.
What do Collins and Kennedy bring to the table?
Our defence is poor and all Kennedy seems to do, before each game, is spend 5 minutes throwing the ball up in the air for our four defenders to header back to him. Baffling.
BTW, I’ve been asking for weeks with no replies, who knows Ronny well enough to say he’s a nice guy?
An over-promoted, feckin chancer.
