And release! Ronny Deila had to go and a few minutes ago, Celtic confirmed that he will leave at the end of the season. I’ve bitten my tongue on this online for months, as I once before suggested we sack a manager here (April 2008) and very quickly regretted it, but as anyone I’ve spoken to privately will tell you, it’s been clear we were on the wrong track since our Champions League exit in August.
The news broke in Norway that he was leaving a few days ago, which forced everyone’s hands to make an announcement now, but I’m glad he’s going to be with us to see the league title won. It doesn’t matter who the competition is, winning the league means lots to many of us, and we’re about to part company with only the second manager in our history not to lose a league title.
For that, he will always be welcome. It would have been absurd to sack a manager two games away from winning the league.
Ronny arrived with a plan for playing football which was cruelly exposed as inadequate in Warsaw, as Legia picked us off. That was acceptable, but the plan never changed. Neither did the results in Europe. We went down to Maribor and Malmo in the same manner.
I’d never heard of Ronny before his appointment but I backed the decision at the time, as he fitted the profile of manager I wanted: not a reject from England, someone who had overachieved with a club in Europe, a student of the game. The remit was right but the candidate was wrong. I still want someone to fit that remit, as opposed to an unemployed manager who has been through the English circuit.
While I would have made the same appointment, the board take responsibility for managerial appointments, good and bad, and they got this one wrong and deserve criticism.
You will note among the appropriate criticism that one journalist, banned from Celtic Park for nearly two years for lying, has used Celtic’s current vulnerability to swing his toe-capped boots.
This is Operation Destabilise Celtic, it’s an alternative strategy to apologising for lying about Celtic, or not lying about Celtic again. It has the hallmarks of an organised PR campaign. You know the script.
Ronny, all the very best and thanks for the Roar. Go win the league with some style.

Do you think there’s one name that would keep a majority happy? Or is it going to be another divisive appointment?
BRTH
Thanks.
Desmond Decides
21 April
After several years of apathy at Celtic Park, owner Dermot Desmond has decided that it’s the time for a radical change. In a bid to set Celtic pulses racing and get bums on seats in the empty white elephant that is Celtic Park, Desmond will fire Peter Lawwell before replacing him with Jim Murphy, a man in touch with with the fans’ way of thinking. Desmond will appoint Mick McCarthy as manger with a backroom staff of Roy Keane and Paolo O’Canio. Desmond believe the appointments will make Celtic a must see again and that season tickets should sell in their dozens.

Me neither.

Your ‘mistakes’ though are more likely to be in the way of double entendres or homophones or near homophones than mere chance would suggest.
For example.
‘John Collins 33/1 defiantly not for me.’
I sometimes suspect that you might be toying with us.
Regarding the blog, I’d like to see moderators being more proactive. Some of the recent posts have been disrespectful and insulting to others. This isn’t the CQN I’ve read for more than a decade. The blog was built on respect; those foundations are being undermined.

Is there any reason why Brendan Rodgers name isn’t higher up the manager’s list?
Premier League experience, plays attractive football….seems to tick a lot of boxes.
Erie, I’ve noticed Tony’s typos also. You’d think he had link sausages taped to his fingers. Surely just an accident

Your posts are indicative of a sharp, intelligent man who lacks the human touch. Nevertheless, your posts are always , well , nearly always, incisive.

Morning CQN from a sunny Cambuslang. Hopefully we’ll appoint the right man for the job but lets get this side over the line.
Peter “let’s keep it just under a million” Lawwell has failed by two of his own KPIs. Coming out of every transfer window stronger (albeit he’s gradually changed the mood music on that one). And, 3 ECLs out of every 5 (2 from last 7 and slipping further away).
This guy is a crap CEO. Small in every way except his remuneration. The fans have stopped listening to his guff. His support amongst them has dwindled and it isn’t coming back.
Even Ronny Deila doesn’t want to work for him any more. No big name will touch the job with a barge pole. Look out for more small thinking, even smaller than the abysmal Ronny. I’m betting on Jim McInytre, Peter Houston or Gary Caldwell.
Watch this blog softening us up for that one. Started yesterday with the reference to rejects from the “English circuit”.
We need an appointment that makes a strong statement of intent and ambition. We won’t get one.
‘English circuit’ was a strange one. I’d bite your hand off for a proven EPL manager, as would most of the support.

Very well said sir. CQN is a mere shadow of what it used to be.
It’s certainly NOT the 1st site i go onto now for all things Celtic.

As I said your life is a sad sad one, I hear and read homophones all day.
It definitely wasn’t raining last night
it definitely wasn’t him
Then again maybe it’s the company I keep, but hey ho I’m happy, obviously this is your life in here correcting people’s spelling, punctuation and grammar as I say as long as I make your day, definitely wasent trying to.

BTW, my Mate still has the badge….
Latchford, safer than the pill.
Anyway , I unfortunately agree with you.
Our Board have no record of showing ambition.
Only time they surprised me was when we got Martin O’Neill.
Now that was real ambition, backed up with the funds.
I long for those days.
Don’t see Martin in the betting , for me the O’Neill/Keane partnership would be first choice. If not them, then Moyes.
Managers who are driven and take no crap.
But returning to your point , we will probably end up with Yogi, Hartley or Stubbs.
I live in hope of being proved wrong.

Oh really? Well I don’t , and if you don’t believe me if at any time we ever meet (which is highly unlikely ) I’ll give you a real close look at them to to prove I defiantly don’t :))
THE DONALD in rambling utter nonsense shocker.
So Ronny has gone
Talked a great game but ultimately he couldn’t live up to his own promises.
He failed to carry his players or a sizeable chunk of the support with hiim. That told on results when it mattered.
Delivered a wee double and maybe a 2nd title, but that not certain and still serious business required to conclude.
I wish Ronny all the best as a Celtic guy, he will always have my respect for having the guts to try and do it his way.
Just one thing. He should be gone now! No long goodbyes and feel the board have made their biggest mistake, so far, by failing to have him clear his desk. Why do the board think the players who have failed to, or have been unable to, respond to the management team, will suddenly rally to him in the last few critical games?
Far more sensible to install a caretaker manager to drag this one across the line.
If we win the league title this year it will be credited as Ronny’s title, no-one would deny him that, surely!?
Wish you well Ronny and good luck with those ideas, you deserve another go at it…somewhere more welcoming!
Hail Hail
PS the guy that wrote about “being there” when we only one trophy win (7-1) in period 55 to 65… We actually won 2 back to back League cups .. ;-)

Some eedjits on here worried about spelling ffs !!!!
The fact Ronnie stays till season end we collectively need to drag him and the team over the line.
No slackers we need to get them bhoys home.
Keep it lit
The odds list, any spelling mistake on this post? Should be addressed to the proper person.

SFTB @ 8:48 (For reference).
According to many, the Blog is all about opinions. I quite enjoy reading informed opinion or even reasoned opinion. I am not at all interested in reactionary ,regurgitated opinion. Most of all, I enjoy facts of the sort I am unlikely to hear from those who `make their own minds up`. (apparently uninfluenced by ANY external sources) .
A good example of the kind of post that adds to understanding is the one posted by SFTB at 8:48.
Being positive, I suppose all the predictable reflections help to highlight the occasional truly informative posts.

Excellent posts from Burnley 78 and Guernica (last night) and Twists ‘n Turns this morning.
Our boardroom would be a better decision making body if these issues were being raised and debated.

Whilst I agree with your general sentiment, I believe they are not really worried about the spelling but use it to have a go at a poster they don`t like.

Didn’t mean to steal your thunder!
Bankiebhoy, I’ve noticed there have been at least a couple of blog identities on here posting strong comments to the effect that posting comments on a blog is a waste of time! Even when it’s been pointed out to them. Profit and Loss seems to be the only language that some people at Celtic Park understand, unfortunately. I think that Celtic supporters may soon start ‘talking’ to them in larger numbers, if the apathy and disaffection isn’t truly addressed.
=============
Well you thought I was one, which was inaccurate, because I explained the context that essentially the good posts were being lost in cyberspace with the bad posts and that it would be more effective if the NegAnons staged a visible protest at the stadium. I also gave the example of TGM, who offers a lot of good content, many times. Offering it many times does not increase its effectiveness, it leaves people reaching fort the scroll button.
My point ultimately being that hitting Celtic where it hurts should ultimately be the last resort. Which is fairly reasonable, I’d have thought?
Well, some of our so called supporters seem to have passed ‘Go’ and jumped straight to the last resort, and are happy to settle for not going to CP for the forseeable future. Because in the absence of a visible protest on a matchday, their absence can easily be attributed to a any one of a number of other factors.
