Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

When Liam went to Norway on loan last season, I thought that it was a good move for him.

However, it obviously never worked out for him, for whatever reason.

Perhaps it was the wrong club. Or, perhaps he was too young to go to another country and fend for himself.

He may have been like the student leaving home for the first year in college.

Anyone who has had children in that position know how many of them react to their first taste of “freedom”.

However, he still needed the loan experience at 18-19 years of age, but under closer scrutiny and support from family and friends.

Being young is not an offence!,

that’s the bonus of the loan to Hibs, Liam gets to stay in Scotland for the loan spell, no culture shock or homesickness

  4. There are a list of things I like about Scott Allan signing:

    1. Hahahaha to the Huns

    2. He is cheap so relatively low risk

    3. It weakens Hun aspiration

    4. It strengthens Hibs considerably

    5. He could prove to be a very good player

    6. It emphasises the new pecking order – even die hard Huns choose Celtic over Rangers ( Sevco)

  7. Matt from the Gorbals quoted on “Off the Ball” just now, is that you Estadio? Hail Hail Hebcelt

  8. I have never seen Scott Allan kick a ball bit he’ll have my full backing. It was a brave move so that deserves a lot of respect.

I’m sure the £10k a week helped him be a bit brave ;)

  10. Stokes on bench no Scepovic. Could it signal a change of heart by Ronny, mibbees its Scep offski and ra Stoksey staying. Old Beefy would be thrilled.

  11. Corkcelt

As it should be. I’ve heard that Scepovic is rubbish at hitting the first defender with a corner ;)

Stokes to come on and score!

  12. Having arrived in Glasgow and secured tix for Wednesday I was already a happy man. Then like Christmas this morning when I was offered tix for today’s game too…. Sitting in Paradise right now…Sure beats watching online!!!

  13. welcome home PJBHOYNYC.

    ENJOY.

cmon the hoops, give us goals today please, lets put this team to the sword, no mercy.

    so it will be 1-0

  14. Liam Henderson’s target at Hibs should be to come as noticeable as Scott Allan made himself on the pitch.

I think he can. My only concern is that he has still to reach full strength physically. He is just 19 and time can fix that.

In fact just heard John Hughes say how becoming stronger young Christie of ICT was becoming and how that helps his game.

You get stronger by pitting your strength against stronger players who don’t need to be technically equal or superior.

I think it’s a well thought out move by Celtic, who in giving him a longer contract have signalled they love him enough to let him go -for a while.

Scott Allan according to RD there on radio is a creative player and who can argue we could do with just a bit more of that to breach defenses set up to combat what creativity we do have.

All good footballing reasons for this bit of business. That it has to be conducted against the background it has is yet another sign of Scotland ‘s shame, where common sense is bent out of shape.
