Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

Any chance anyone has a spare for me for today’s game?

    —————-

bud, head up to the game, plenty of tickets available both from official source, and usually from bhoys outside the ground.

    enjoy.

  4. Gooooood Morning Celtic Fans worldwide :-)

Lurgan57 – wow, congrats to all involved

Big Leftie, I take it young Sean and your good self are all set :-) see you at the Coarner

BT, will wish the Auld yin a happy birthday

Now, I also rate Liam Henderson, and delighted he has a new deal, to come back to Celtic, I see Liam as a long term replacement for Broonie ? Or Nir when he eventually moves on ?

But he does desperately need game time against first team players to develop

Like many I would have sent McGregor ( not to come back mind :-) )

    Now for the real news

Wee Shug the Dug, booked into Vet for another operation Wed, to remove this new lump from his neck – foreign body stuck in there somewhere

Something else planned for Wednesday night as well, so that will help :-)

    Hail Hail

  8. Celtic, Celtic thats the team for me,

    Celtic, Celtic on to victory,

They’re the finest team in Scotland, I’m sure you will agree,

We’ll never give up till we’ve won the cup and the Scottish football league.

They come from bonnie Scotland, they come from county Cork,

They come from dear old Donegal and even from New York,

From every street in Glasgow they proudly make their way,

To a place called dear old paradise and this is what they say.

There’s Fallon, Young and Gemmell who proudly wear the green,

There’s Clark, McNeill and Kennedy the best there;s ever been,

Jim Johnstone, Murdoch, Chalmers, John Divers and John Hughes,

And sixty thousand Celtic fans who proudly shout the news.

  9. The lad Henderson needs game time and he’ll not get that at Celtic for another year or two!!!

cant understand people saying we need a striker, left back, winger and centre back and using that to beat Celtic for signing a midfielder.

if a player becomes available and you think he’s got something, you get the deal done

RD is building his own team and it will take time and patience, we have essentially got one in and one out, but the one in is RD’s player.

do we still need a left back, winger, striker and replacement for vvd, should he go? Yes, but like the allen deal it has to be the right player

can see stefan, stokes and dirk out the door before end of transfer window, would not be unhappy if mulgrew, effa and/ or fisher followed and i do think Forrest contract ends at end of season so its squeaky bum time for him too!!!

Looking forward to a cracking game today. Hope to meet up with some of you at CQN corner.

  11. On holiday. Just found out we’ve snatched the Huns great white hope from under their snouts.

    LMAO.

Will watch the game this afternoon in the pub in the scorchio wearher with a grin and a few beers. COYBIG.

Goodness, it’s at times like these I miss dipping into followfollow… ;))

Right now we need labour to start holding the right wing governments to account both North and south of the border.

  13. Oh, forgot if anyone wants mcgregor he would be no where near the first team for me!!!

amazed how we can move on so many players last count we where into double figures only purchase half that amount and still have squad of 29 player, madness

Its at times like this Ibrox needs Sir David Murray, that man would never have allowed the Scott Allen situation,he’d have just went out and got him!

  15. Stephbhoy, Whoa there Sir, Why get rid of Fisher for one, what has he done wrong, Charlie & Efe are two good utility squad players. These type of lads are needed in every squad. I’m guessing in the dark on this one but I would be astounded if James Forrest was on the last year of his contract.

I agree with the overall thrust of your post if a good opportunity arises take it and I think we did very well on Allan deal.

I also agree with you and 100 % of Celtic Fans re saying goodbye to Derk, will be sorry to see Stokes go but agree it looks a certainty. Not sure about Scep. he has never been given a real chance imo.

  16. Lurgan57, congrats, but two sets of twins?!

What the hell are they putting in the water round your way? ;))

    3 Things

    1) Scott Allen – hope it works for him and the team – brave decision to join us when he supports them – how many of us would sign for them ?? not me – I don’t care who he supports I care about who he plays for

    2) Liam Henderson – what a clever move by Celtic – extend his contract – loan him out – and help Hibs

    3) RD (and I was sceptical) has he bought a player that has not improved us ?? – I don’t think so

Would love to know what Warbo thinks of this latest humiliation. He must be thinking of jumping ship.

I asked yesterday if anyone thought that SA2 could be a successor to KC, based on his style of play.

I have no informed opinion of the boy.

However, I am encouraged by reading the glowing reports of those professionals, whose business it is to know and understand football and footballers, as to the quality of the player.

    Thank God for the SMSM.

  22. Just did a quick bit of research into Forrest’s contract, seems it’s up in December 2016, so in fairness Stephbhoy you were close on that one,

  23. Now this is one hurtin person from the herald;

Liam Henderson comes straight into the squad for the home match with Morton, with Stubbs already appearing likely to invest the transfer fee from the Allan deal – believed to be £275,000 – on further squad improvements. They have already been linked with a move to sign Rangers defender Darren McGregor, though whether Mark Warburton would be keen to do business with his main championship rivals remains to be seen
