Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

  1. Bedtime as I’ve a busy dat ahead and need to get up early to get some wet wipes and spare pants for G64 so he can get a taxi home tomorrow night.

  2. Would appear new deal a ‘red-line’ for Liam – good for him – making sure he is ‘in the picture’ when he comes back.

Dylan would have got a ‘bung’ and Scott a signing-on fee – we will be paying a ‘chunk’ of Liam’s wages – so not such a ‘cut price’ deal as many think – all in all around £1 million plus Scott’s wages for 4 years circa £2 million – amazing how it all adds up……….and idiots on here still only want to abuse Lawwell – ’nuff’ said

  9. Celtic have handled the SA signing in a very professional way.

The media furore has been totally undignified.

Celtic have made the Scottish media to look like like incompetent eejits.

This is the closest I can find, and its not very close, of how I remember The West’s Awake being sung

My Da and his two brothers, Arthur and Pat, sung this in three-part harmony in the hoose. I last heard them sing it 20 years ago now, in the pub, and it stilled it.

Cheers for that I will try and look back but hopefully Clogher might post it again, by the way on the subject of Alfie Conn, a nicer man you couldn’t meet, for a while in the late 80s he helped run an amateur team in Coatbridge that my brothers played for, I was only a kid and joined in the training but he was a total gentleman, I never knew one Celtic fan who gave a jot who he played for or supported….

  15. Will do Gordon we live in a special place here with a lot of good tims of different generations, a lot of season book holders if they can’t make a game they make sure their ticket goes to a good home HH
