Scott Allan wraps the green flag round himself

419

Scott Allan was whisked away from Dundee United as a 19-year-old with only four starts under his belt. At the time there was a great deal of annoyance that a promising Scottish talent was lost to our game almost before he started.

West Brom harvested him, but never gave him a game. He went on loan to Portsmouth (15 starts), MK Dons (2 starts) and Birmingham (another 2 starts), before transferring to Hibernian last summer. Performances for Hibs made him a standout for those who follow lower league football; Player of the Year material.

The most striking part of this deal is the cost, a reported £275k, plus Dylan McGeough, who Hibs had on loan last season and who was unlikely to ever force himself into contention at Celtic. It’s cheap. A cheap signing for Celtic, a cheap player for Hibs to sell. Gone are the days of £4m midfield players moving from Easter Road to Celtic. The price was determined by the competition (there is only one team in Scotland who can put anything like that kind of money down on a player. HP deals have limited appeal).

What he is to Ronny Deila, is a canvas.   Scott will go through the most intense few months of his career, starting Monday morning. He will get his opportunity to show what he can do. Every conceivable performance metric will be measured. And the measurements will improve.

Can’t wait to see him in a Celtic shirt, I’ve heard so much about how good he is for months……..

Welcome to Celtic, Scott.

  1. let the people sing on

Reading back on the posts about Alfie Conn – I was a young boy when he signed for us and he became a real hero of mine – had no idea who he’d played for and nor did it matter!

We welcome all, it’s what makes us a great club and the best supporters, so it’s a big welcome from me to Scot Allan – think we’ve just signed a gem of a player.

I’ve picked up some comments the last few years from Sevconia, via eg Scotsman letters, FF and the RSL site.

Stuff like….. ‘fenians hate us more than they love their club’ ‘the other clubs’ sheer hatred is what put us down’, and the latest, ‘this signing of Allen is all down to Lawwell’s hatred of [sevco].

I blame Rfc1872 first and foremost for fostering a hate mentality amongst their support over 100 years. Hatred of Irish, of Roman Catholics and therefore of Celtic. They thrived and prospered on it and it became part of the Ibrox dna, really taking off around 1920 with the influx of Northern Ireland bigotry. Scotland put up with this horrible mix of Arrogance, Self entitlement, Superiority Complex, and Hate for those who opposed them, for decades.

Now they are in a bad way through no one’s fault but their own, but it’s everybody else’s Hatred towards them that’s the main cause.

    The cowards who cried Wolf.

My feelings are about Scott Allan are a bit similar to the referendum. Not sure it is the right thing for us, but if it pisses off Rangers fans, just go ahead and do it!

Just waiting for someone to do the Hitler parody of Mark Warburton like this one that was done a few years ago!

  4. JC should have added a caveat to his statement that Scottish players are not quick enough or clever enough

BUT if we find a player who is we will sign him.

It will be interesting how the media try to ‘stir the pot’ over the next few days. Will ming get the same silent treatment murray /greengo got when they capitulated on their promises, or will the media start asking ming some ‘searching’ questions about his promises…….hope not, since the ‘result’ of employing the ‘succulent lamb’ reporting strategy contributed greatly to the demise of oldco, with sevco following hard on their heels…….well done, Celtic Board, on your signing strategy.

Can’t wait for the game today…….should be a wee buzz about the place ……wonder why ?

  6. In all this saga one fact has remained mostly unreported:

Sally had Allan on trial last preseason. He could have got him for nothing but instead gave a contract to Kyle Hutton, who has just signed for QotS.

    What a legend!

JC good to see you on CQN. You will find that my posts are mainly nonsense and usually ignored.

Catch up with you later. HH

Think King looks like a mug now.

But if I were him I’d be asking serious questions of Jabba and his Level5 compadres, whose campaign to unsettle Scott simply p!553d off Hibs and encouraged them to find any buyer not called Sevco.

Doubt many searching questions will be asked in the MSM – they are all too tied to King’s “project” to abandon it now. Also on FF I see the line is that there was nothing more the Sevco board could have done in the face of Hiberno-Celtic treachery…

But in the wee sma’ hours, I suspect some of them are starting to wonder just what “over-investment” actually means.

Warburton is no fool. Would love to know his feelings on this episode.

Totally agree – I would reckon that Warbs is wondering what the hell he has walked into.

Always reckoned that they needed him more than he needed them…

  10. No doubt but this is now Ronny’s squad. He has ironed out almost all the bumps apart from Derk.

Obviously question marks as well over Stokes & Scep. but I would not be in the least surprised to see progress on these as well before the 1st Sept.

Ghuys i just have to share my joy with my friends in the Celtic family. Just over a year ago my youngest daughter presented missus57 and myself with beautiful twin ghirls and on Tuesday past my eldest daughter presented missus57 and myself with Identical twin Bhoys. Two sets off twins in the one family so much happiness and their proud grandad will teach them all the Glasgow Celtic way

Congratulations to all concerned, mate. Be an expensive time of year for you in future, but worth every penny.

  14. And right on cue, Oz get a breakaway try. They are still well scalded though currently 41-13 with a 0 2 minutes left.

  15. Incidentally with regards to labour I do hope Corbyn wins. Labour will not win the next election in any case but it’s time to change the tune and get back to basics on defending the poor and redistributing wealth. It will create a debate in the UK that’s coming anyway as the Tories lurch further and further to the left and peddle their dogma hiding behind austerity.

I absolutely burst out laughing at the SNP government minister the other day wringing his hands about the poor farmers and telling them that the prices should go up. I kept thinking foodbanks and all this crap that the SNP espouse they are about.

It’s time they were held to account for their right wing socialist nationalist agenda.

Was just thinking there …..giving Hibs two players would seem to be a wee message from our Board to the bigoted / biased meeja ……”so, Celtic are desperate to see sevco back in the SPFL, are they …. ?” ….. It also sends the negatonians in our ranks a wee message ……

…..and we have made a few signings, with more to come, possibly…. Happy, HOOPY days ,…!!!!
