Scottish football against corruption

1216

The world looked so different for Scottish Football League chief executive, David Longmuir, back in March.  He convinced half of the member clubs to reject a deal which would earn them considerably more money next season, while enjoying the accolades of Rangers International chief exec, Charles Green.

Green remains a controlling director of Rangers International, but Longmuir’s actions infuriated First Division clubs, who have now applied to join the SPL, furious at his attempts to subvert them earning what many see as crucial income next season.

To suggest Longmuir acted in the interests of one Third Division club to the considerable detriment of all First Division clubs would be stating the obvious.  These shenanigans still go on in Scottish football, even now, after all that happened last year, but it is reassuring that the overwhelming majority of voices have, again, said, ‘On your (boardroom) bike’.  We are rapidly becoming one of the least corrupt countries football is played in the world.  Good luck to all in the First Division.

I read the leaked document, Rangers (sic): the way forward, yesterday afternoon.  It was so ludicrously lacking in anything which remotely resembled substance I assumed the leak was an attempt to discredit Charles Green.  Then I heard BBC’s Chris McLaughlin say it was Green himself behind the leak.  The fact that the Rangers International director categorically recognised the club is lumbered with a lame manager hardly passes for insight. The document was embarrassingly inept.

“The team will work for each other and press the opponents when not in possession.

“Most of all, players will come off the park knowing that they have done their best.”

In a high-level policy document this is cringeworthy.

  1. I may be my age or that I was spoiled by earlier Celtic teams but that was another atrocious performance. Poor passing, never retained possession from throw ins, never cleared to a team-mate from defence, lost out so often in midfield, poor service to forwards who were also unable to get by defenders. Had long enough to resolve these issues so better not let them surface at cup final or I’m afraid it will be time to look for a new manager. Same old same old.

what is our record against the top 6 – cannot be very impressive – and gives the other 5 increased confidence for next year – they will not fear playing against celtic at all next season – with no rangers to play – the other teams confidence is not dented as many times per season

Which is a bad thing, because?

  3. The pitch is an issue it was a total disgrace, very difficult to play on that. Dreadful game.

McGregor should concentrate on the basics before getting involved with league reconstruction.

no apologists – not missing them at all – would rather they went out of existence altogether – id wish even worse on some of their staff – got a season book renewal letter for my son sitting right next to me – will be paying for that this week – need to pick and choose my own games – is that okay with you ? (just wtf makes you think i’m missing that lot ? is that just your stock answer ?)

  5. I’ve got to say that Efe Ambrose has been a big disappointment, as his first few games showed so much promise. I would have had Tony Watt throuigh the middle–genuine pace and strength, and a good football brain. Any clubs watching this season would have him down as a target. Meanwhile, I hope ESPN realise their team of “commentators” has lost them quite a few customers, and that BT take note of this.

That was awful. Below mediocre….Cup Final looming and the team has switched off…worried.

Dire again. Been a lot of games like that this season. On the plus side we are getting better at the long ball game :)

Windy day, terrible pitch, a match that looked like it meant something to one team only.

Efe Ambrose?…….no thanks. Poor decision making and too many needless mistakes, and not just today.

How hard can it be to keep your pitch decent, Motherwell got away with it for years..football is played on grass and I posted as soon as I saw the pitch, won’t be much football played today..

Wee Lachie the groundsman needs his erchie booted up in Dingwall…

Very uninspiring performance against a team who admittedly always work hard and tackle hard against us.

The thing is all our players should have been playing for a place in the cup final, or at least on the bench, trouble was they looked like they weren’t bothered or had already made their minds up they would either be a shoe in, or wouldnt be picked anyway so whats the point.

crushed nuts – english standard grade was last week – “which is bad things because”…. very limited, hard working teams will be coming to celtic park with no fear and taking more points from celtic – i want teams pumped at CP at least and on the defensive in their own middens,

if the opposition was as good as the new firm in the 80’s then fair enough but it not

Well lets consider this two tickets for the game fuel up to Dingwall and back something to eat gives no change from £150 and not mentioning 9 hours plus in travel. Now the folk who watch the game from there armchairs might think its a meaningless game but surely the away support deserve better. The pitch was the same for both teams we can argue we had a good goal chalked off they can argue that they should have had a penalty. The Celtic team were disorganised and were given the run around in midfield. We did not deserve any more than we got Lennie can give players a few days off and we the support pay for it.I will ask Lennie to answer this what was your game plan at Motherwell? what was your game plan at Dingwall? as far as I could see there wasnt any I cant see how we can play so poorly and yet expect the team to lift there game for the cup final ?.In football you should allways play your best team not keep chopping and changeing it and giving players holidays come on Lennie get it sorted.H.H.

  15. This Celtic team will finish the 2012/13 SPL campaign with less points than in Tony Mowbray’s season.

When are you lot gonna realise that Celtic are a shop window team and everyone playing today was in the shop window?

How much is that doggie in the window?

The one wearing the hoops and for sale?

The manager and his highly paid players should be made to pay for the travelling expenses of the Celtic supporters whom attended that game today.

If i was Desmond i would make them pay the money, plus i would also refund to them the money that they paid for the tickets.

  19. Starry

Should be sanctions for that no wonder their home record is so good. This is meant to be the entertainment industry. But at least the commentators got a pie from McGregor. ..

I would have probably failed the English standard grade, so thanks for making the effort to understand me!

If Celtic are challenged at home (and away) by more teams more often then surely that will have a positive effect on both individual players and the team, with the further consequence of giving supporters a more competitive game to watch?

  21. 16 roads - Neil Lennon walks on water. on

That’s if Desmond was even aware that we were playing today.

  22. Obviously Ross County have never heard the term ‘safety officer’! That game should never been allowed to go ahead! European aspirations my as;!

Didn’t realise that ‘Gazza’ was coaching up there, use their arms to great effect!

    H.H.

  23. It was a game that meant a lot to Ross County and meant a lot less to Celtic. Ross County are a difficult team to beat at home. The pitch was a disgrace. We had a good goal chalked off. They had settled team we are in experimental mode. We didn’t lose.
