Seeking game time in Qatar

551

Marco Tilio made a late substitute appearance in Australia’s final Asian Cup warm-up game against Bharain on Saturday.  The player is clearly valued higher in his home country than around Lennoxtown.  With little prospect of a promotion to the Celtic starting line-up ahead, any chance the player has to shine would be useful for him and the club.

Oh Hyeon-gyu played the first half of Korea’s game against Iraq on the same day.  There is little chance of Oh moving on this month but, like Marco, he is a player who would benefit from gametime in Qatar.

Japan’s opener against Vietnam on Sunday will attract most attention from Celtic fans.  Reo Hatate should be close to full fitness, although I doubt he will start the game.  Daizen Maeda led the line for Japan at the World Cup, when they expected to play a counter-attacking game.  Tactics will be different against Vietnam than they were against Spain, so Daizen may not play the same role.

Again, you and I will lie in our beds at night pondering why one of the greatest Celtic players of this century is on a beach somewhere right now.

The Sun report Celtic have received a work permit for Nicolas Kuhn.  This detail is usually completed after paperwork is signed.  Hopefully we’re a ‘Ross Hall moment’ away from getting this one over the line.

Good to hear, Martin. You’re obviously doing all right if you can still count to 176 😁

Wandering around hun websites, I came across this little gem:

Rangers wouldn’t expect a penny less than £15M for James Tavernier given his importance and goals

Took a while to stop laughing 😆😅🤣

Newcastle also suffered a dip in domestic form. The media seem to understand the effect injuries and fatigue is having on the team, the fans certainly do.

Eddie Howe has been talking about the need for signings in the January window but he’s fully aware of the restrictions that financial fair play put on his plans

*is that the same FFP that swine “liewell” helped put in place that has now severely restricted the thieven lyin cheatin huns, oh I forgot he only works one day at CP.

  4. Marseille ‘agree terms’ to sign Josh Doig from Hellas Verona (The Herald)

The SMM Ministry of Truth will have to scour the media and eradicate all reports that he was coming to Glasgow to play for a team in blue.

Celtic40me – enjoyed your take on Newcastle’s plight.

    Parallels with Celtic are clear.

Desire for high energy approach at all times.

Plagued by injuries – I have no direct evidence but they might have been caused by the approach being demanded breaking the players.

Went for it in Champions League.

We’re competitive enough in six games (we were in five).

    Came bottom.

    Feeling the pain now.

    Couple of major differences.

One – We can mitigate our squad management issues in the transfer market

Two – there were no chants of “Chairman, Chairman, GTF” at St James’s Park when an exhausted, depleted squad had the barefaced cheek to lose two games on the trot.

    Sense of entitlement?

    Aw dont do that :-))

    They do not do insight

It was a common trick of Sir Hunner of Pence to asset bloat,it started with players and over the years moved up the Balance sheet til the value of the stadium as a whole was overvalued.

It has damaged them as minty begged, borrowed and stole to feed the Hubris,it has scarred them inside the heid as the ordinaty luj member/fan of the 2 clubs is still addicted deeply to the psyche.

Hope all good over your way,not heard from the bahamian tomato today :-)))

I looked back on the last 6 Fleetwood fixtures and Montgomery hasn’t featured even on the bench – could be injured or not seen as good enough.

Don’t think he’ll be in our first team plans.

  10. It seems that we have recalled Montgomery .

He has not been released by Fleetwood .

He was injured ,but also when fit ,they had stopped playing him .

He is nowhere near good enough for our first team ,just now.

Hopefully he has been recalled to be reloaded to another club.

Browsing Celtic cyberspace I came across this from Paul John Dykes.

    https://x.com/PaulJohnDykes/status/1745379109306270147?s=20

I found it genuinely thought provoking.

General perception is possibly David is not one for keeping?

Goals and assists performance data (a contribution leading to a goal every 136 minutes of play) suggests otherwise.

Has played more than I thought too, averaging more than 2,000 minutes per season.

  12. Hi Aipple – The article says they want 4m euros, half of which goes to Benfica, but there has been no approach from the greedy Glasgow club.

  13. A project goes on loan, whil another highly thought of projects,Holm, and Yang continue their learning at Celtic.

Meanwhile in another review of the disastrous summer transfer window,AKA James Forrest, and many Celtic fans ,watch,Palma,Nawrocki, and Bernardo, hit the heights, withLagerbielke sought after by other clubs.

Real project Tiliio, from Australia, probably heading home

So,not such a disaster at all it seems.Maybe, just maybe, young Lawwell Jnr,will get the credit for finding,Messrs Palma,Bernardo,Nawrocki, and 2or 3 very useful real ” Projects for the future. No,well I am shocked, but remember,I am always gonna be here to remind you.

  14. Meanwhile, soccer Guru,Kenny Miller tips Hatate for Spurs, notwithstanding they already have the best number10 ,Maddison,in the EPL.

    We can always hope Kenny.

The Geordies have a pretty unique approach to success and failure anyway – you’ll never meet a bunch of happier fans – but I think they’re just happy to have anyone other than Ashley in charge. The owners having bottomless pockets is a bonus. Maybe it’ll change but I don’t think it’s in their nature

I’m always a bit surprised at how the Man United fans have reacted to their fall from the top. They were the biggest club in the world and everyone wanted to play for them, now they’re another Epl club but their fans rarely boo and they always seem to support the manager.

  17. Seville team total to buy came in at roughly £29,000,000

The core of that team enabled us to be a force domestically and in Europe, Champions League included.

That team was financed on the whole by the banks/Desmond and although we were a force and good to watch for quite a few years meant cutting back for a few years transfer wise when it finally broke up. The following years though we’re not without success.

Using the Bank of Englands inflation calculator, to emulate that spend would cost us £51,000,000.

We have, supposedly, £70,000,000 sitting doing nothing. We could EASILY afford to buy much better and enhance our chances of the European prize that is Champions League qualification AND enjoy watching better players for a few years. With the added bonus of still being in the black as opposed to paying off our debts for a number of years a la post Seville.

To put it into perspective, the £2.8m we’re haggling about for Khun, was worth £1.5m back in 2001

In other words, speculate and accumulate without getting into debt

  18. GENE

    Point taken

But my point is we can afford much more than £2.8m on players without breaking the bank AND without going into debt
