Semi-final wounds to heal

165

Trying hard not to be disrespectful here, but given lower league Inverness and even lower league Falkirk reached the Scottish Cup semi-finals, we were always going to have to beat Newco to take what we hope will be our eighth treble.

Bravado is easy before the event, but this was the draw I wanted.  Celtic now have a clear target: beat Hibs, Ross County and then Newco, to move at least 12 points clear.  Effectively secure the title and pour all the pressure in the world onto the talking Mick Beale Show.  See what his chat is before taking a squad to Hampden littered with out of contract losers.

Between now and then, Ange Postecoglou’s team talks will script themselves.  He has a squad filled with habitual winners.  With very few exceptions, they need to fight for their place in the crucial games ahead.  Hibs on Saturday cannot come soon enough for a committed, energetic squad.

And as though you could forget, Ange will inform the players they left a trophy behind last season in similar circumstances.  We have an open wound to heal.

I am maybe in a minority of one on this but …………

I enjoyed the pundit-less programming of the weekend.

Extended highlights of our game without the tortured mental gymnastics eee beee teeee ers from the studio.

No McCann, Thompson or Lee Anne with all their trendy whie based trainers and skiny jeans.

    _____

trendy whie based trainers and skiny jeans… and the five o’clock feet (as my mammy used to say) stance, that most of these wallopers adopt. Full of their own self importance, these dickheads.

  2. Hope Oh, Iwata and Kobayashi get plenty of game time between now and semi final. More competition for places keeps everyone fired up.

  3. Celtic handed Kilmarnock fixture switch while Aberdeen get set for Friday night under the lights in Dingwall

The Hoops travel to Ayrshire in their penultimate game before the split while the Dons head to the Highlands to take on the Staggies.

The final Sky TV selections before the Scottish Premiership split have been confirmed.

Celtic are ticking off the games as they look to motor to the finish line in the title run in. They are nine points clear of Rangers with two derby clashes left, but picking up maximum points elsewhere will be just as key if they want to keep that cushion between themselves and their city rivals. One of their spring fixtures is an away trip to Kilmarnock in the second week of April. That has now been put back to Sunday, 16 April with a 12 noon kick-off.

  4. As far as pundits go, I thought Laudrup did ok during the League Cup Final. He remained calm and measured and is far more arrticulate than the Boyds and Huttons of this world. WGS and Hartson are fans with mics, one a bit sharper than the other but always pro-Celtic.

I must admit that, for me, Sutton’s constant neeedling of other panelists is bordering on the tiresome. Sometimes he gets hold of something and just can’t let it go. I love having him talk us up whenever he can but sometimes there is an arrogance and aggression to his tone that is rarely needed. Likes to be controversial but overdoes it at times and can sound like a bully.

  5. What’s wrong with skinny jeans and white soled shoes? Burds were loving mine in Edinburgh at the weekend😎

  6. Jota on the wing.

This is the sort of encouraging song we need. Inspiring, clever and catchy

  7. Taylor dropped from Scotland squad, harsh on the guy,but keeps him fresh for our games.

Next time you are in the Shipbank, ask the landlady what she thought of the jukebox choices of 2 late morning drinkers on Monday😎

    ………………

You have me a bit lost Mate, why would the Landlady remember such a thing ?

    Whatever it was ?

I sometimes have a wee chat to Janice the Landlady about music, especially when i play any songs that she likes, however her Husband ( Frankie) is the real music buff in the family, as he knows his stuff.

I sometimes play some tunes on the Jukey, and then ask Frank ” Who is that” etc ?

He is 4 years younger than me, but he knows his music.

Sometimes, I have him STUMPED….but not very often.

Taylor dropped from Scotland squad, harsh on the guy,but keeps him fresh for our games.

    ……….

    Im happy about that.

Is KT in the squad, because he hasnt been getting much Fitba this season, or is he also dropped ?

  10. Big Jimmy,

It was just me and my mate in there and playing punk/sweary stuff. We calmed it down after a bit. Great jukebox, seems to have everything. The guy setting up the sound system for his gig later was honest enough to say he had never heard of any of it but was glad he hadn’t!!!

  11. Sad to see only 2 players from the SPL in the Scotland squad. We look especially weak up front so I suspect it’s going to be a rather dull Euro campaign. Hope I’m wrong.

  12. I don’t like your comment on calling some Sevco Players as losers ,as much as I dislike them ,I find it inappropriate,as I said yesterday to much complacency on hear ,I’m not into that ,you spout about Mick Beale you are not much better.

    ……………

    Oh, I see !

The Guy setting up his gear is the WORST ” Act” in the Shipbank. Him and his wife ( Shes no a bad singer) play every Monday from about 3.30pm. HIS ” Singing” is shocking, and his Patter between songs isnt much better.

Over the last couple of years, Ive tended to AVOID Monday afternoons in there because of HIM….He is Murder Policeman.

    LOL

  14. I wonder who will take the madden mantle for our semi final , it will be controversial as this is there last chance . Walsh probably the var cheat . That leaves either bigot Beaton , or useless collum as my picks . I only hope we don’t allow them to bully us this time . HH

Aye, its an excellent Juke Box…..Ive paid for it one hundred times over !

The Landlady Janice, calls me ” Juke Box Jimmy” sometimes.

  17. I see Stevie Clark is snubbing celtic players again. No Kyogo or Hatate in the squad.

  18. On January 20th Ange told a media conference that Benjamin Siegrist has missed the last three weeks with a calf complaint but that he was back in training though wouldn’t be in the squad for that week’s games.

That was nearly two months ago. Did he get injured again in training?

I know one or two others on here have asked for an update on this but when I search for info I cannot find any news since January.

  21. Although I am delighted that Clarke has overlooked Greg Taylor, Anthony Ralston and David Turnbull (while James Forrest is injured), I would imagine the players are not too happy about it.

  22. Deniabhoy

Clarke has selected a lot of players who are not playing much, possibly hit the limit.

Ralston – Clarke has shown he prefers Paterson in there

Taylor – Greg is 3rd/4th choice behind Robertson, Tierney, Hickey (depending on formation

Turnbull – hardly played and we have loads of midfielders

PS we are really light on strikers but that has been the case for a while

  23. Don’t know Hickey, KT has hardly played recently and, I’m told, Robertson hasn’t been setting the heather on fire at Liiverpool. So, while I’m not too upset about Taylor not getting picked, I think he has been very unlucky.

  24. Canamalar it looks like OCD obsession on

    Hairlikespaghetti,

He probably doesn’t want people jinxing his punts :)
