Semi-final wounds to heal

165

Trying hard not to be disrespectful here, but given lower league Inverness and even lower league Falkirk reached the Scottish Cup semi-finals, we were always going to have to beat Newco to take what we hope will be our eighth treble.

Bravado is easy before the event, but this was the draw I wanted.  Celtic now have a clear target: beat Hibs, Ross County and then Newco, to move at least 12 points clear.  Effectively secure the title and pour all the pressure in the world onto the talking Mick Beale Show.  See what his chat is before taking a squad to Hampden littered with out of contract losers.

Between now and then, Ange Postecoglou’s team talks will script themselves.  He has a squad filled with habitual winners.  With very few exceptions, they need to fight for their place in the crucial games ahead.  Hibs on Saturday cannot come soon enough for a committed, energetic squad.

And as though you could forget, Ange will inform the players they left a trophy behind last season in similar circumstances.  We have an open wound to heal.

    Great news re Scotland squad.

Greg Taylor has been carrying a slight knock.

Play Hibs then rest up a bit.

“I know Greg very very well. We have a good relationship. I have had a chat with him and he is fine.

There are one or two little issues around that one, which is not for me to say. It is a Celtic matter”

    And yet he says it.

    Poor guy.

  3. Ex ref Steve Conroy pushing in the press for Reo to get a retrospective two match ban for diving in the cup quarter final against Hearts. I say press, it’s the Daily Record, but…desperate stuff.

  4. I was in Arnold Clark today with a neighbour who is looking to buy a small new car.

    Dacia Sandera, basic model, £10,205.

    Great! She’ll have that.

Away he goes to get a print out of the cost and comes back and says he’s quoted her for a used car!

So if you want the new car it’s an extra £3,000.!!

My friend was gutted and far too polite to tell Arnold Clark what to do with their new Sandero.

How do they get away with it! I would never recommend them.

    Ever.

I just read that, embarrassing. That rag, as you say, desperate.

  6. Philbhoy, Arnold Clark is notorious for unsavoury tactics. I made the mistake of taking a 2 year service deal a while back, year 1 MOT and check came out spotless, couldn’t have bought a more reliable car…12 months later, the 2nd MOT came back with them recommending over £6K of repairs & replacements.. took it to a local garage who carried out their own MOT and only after they finished did I share the Arnold Clark report…they billed me £240 for the repairs needed and said 80% of their business comes from disgruntled Arnold Clark customers…

    PHILBHOY on 14TH MARCH 2023 6:13 PM,

Should have demanded the price quoted and agreed, you were witness and any inaccuracies in original offer are at the expense of the seller.

Good evening all from the International Bar, sunny Polmadie. You can never have enough good times. 👍

  9. HairLikeSpaghetti,

The 1 time I bought a car from there, I also took out the 2 year Service/MOT deal as it seemed alright.

Never again, as you say the MOT with their Video bullsh!t trying to extort money out of you.

  10. On top of that, I accompanied my daughter to the Grangemouth Arnold Clark two weeks ago as she was buying her first car…she wanted a wee bit of support as she felt she was getting the runaround by the salesman…

Turns out the dodgy individual was ex hun Drinkell…clearly the EBTs only stretched so far….

    Re Arnold Clark

Their service and MOT plan (you can refuse to take it) put car in for MOT and service which I’ve paid for in advance, MOT comes back with several fails, here’s the kicker, £156 to investigate each fail, not to fix it just to tell me what it is. Will never use them for either again as they’ll tell you they can let you drive a car that’s failed it’s MOT. Refuse to pay and take their plans, total con.

I see another ref wants Reo banned for the semi against thems for diving. Funnily enough, no comment on Unfashionable Sickala’s dive this past weekend.

  14. The biggest rip off with a car i had was when i put my shitey 307 in for a service before i took it from England to Ireland.

As i am an engineer by qualification, i put forward 4 potential reasons for the rattling and other issues

My first hypothesis was correct(clutch) and the other issues were a consequence

They did all the irrelevant checks and charged me for the lot. I beat the smarmy sales guy and the garage guy down a bit but cost me 800 for nothing big wrong with the car

    Never but French cars

  16. Holy hail fieldofdrams- I think that’s the worst bit of journalism I’ve ever seen.

  17. Evening all.

I know about as much about the workings of a motorised vehicle as I do about our four legged equine friends, ZERO. :)

I suspect your comment re St Tams was a bit tongue in cheek, however having been in his company, he is a very likeable and funny guy.

    I like him.

I’m surprised you thought I was chastising you. That certainly wasn’t my intention.

You commented that you had attempted unsuccessfully to find out about Ben Siegrist’s injury. I pointed out that it was covered by Ange in his recent pressers and reported on CQN by me and others.

I then suggested you watch Ange’s press conferences for injury updates. It was a friendly suggestion, not a dig.

Philbhoy – buying a car. Not fun.

    One should always remember ….

It’s a home game for them.

It’s an away game for you.

They play at home every day.

You play an away game every 3-5 years.

Get in, take control, silence the crowd.

  22. Thanks for your replies re cheating car salespeople.

I asked my friend if she wanted to kick up a fuss but she wasn’t keen.
