Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

My Dad thought, great, this guy’ll look after me only to be told immediately ‘You’d better be good at your job son, because I don’t want you letting us down and giving them any excuses, and you’ll not be getting any favours from me.’

I was taught to play the flute in this band. Oh! how we loved to beat the drum.

I was taught by my teachers and my preachers I am pre-ordained.

I was taught that Rome was wrong.

I was taught that the enemy lived next door but went to a different school and a different church and supported a different football team and they wanted to wipe out my culture and annihilate me and mine.

But all I want to do is support my football team and have a beer. I don’t want to annihilate any culture or person.

    But I was taught!

    I was taught!

    I was taught!

Nobody told me to hate, but all my teachings brought me to hate because all I ever encountered was hate.

I hate because they hate, because we hate, because they hate, because we hate, because they hate.

I don’t want to hate but nobody will let me stop; Not my friends, nor my foes.

  10. @BBCchrismclaug: #SPL clubs are to meet next Thursday to discuss implications of a newco vote. #SPL board expected to put forward recommendations.

  11. Painful as this obviously is for Rangers supporters, I suspect the turmoil that has been caused is vital to Scottish Footballs survival

I read the obituary today of Teddy Scott. It made for humbling reading. What a wonderful character, and the perfect example of why football in Scotland is a precious thing. I have no doubt that every club has its own “Teddy Scott” . My own club has Danny Mcgrain and John Clark, who although both gained more fame than Teddy as players, are from the same stock.

Their values are the ones we need moving forward. These men didn’t get into football to  benefit from a dodgy tax scheme and an even dodgier owner. Shysters like David Murray aren’t fit to be mentioned in the same context as a Teddy Scott

Aberdeen achieved wonders through the personality talent and application of a group of honest Scotsmen. What we need now is an overdose of Teddy Scott values

I feel a little more hopeful this morning about our sport. I sense a return to traditional values . Rangers need to find their own Teddy Scott’s . They will need to look hard, as none of the characters who have been hanging around Ibrox for the last 20 years  polluting our game, are the answer

Long way to go, but if we use guys like Teddy Scott as our inspiration we will get there

  12. Another busy day in the close season but I would have thought SebCo would have been too engrossed in the olympic preparations to get involved with an ex football club.
