Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

  1. Sevco have released a statement this morning saying that manager Ally McCoist is considering his resignation. A club spokesman said this is the worst day in the clubs 8 day history.

I don’t really understand your argument – RFC(IA) are to be liquidated and will disappear – that is a legal consequence arising from poor financial management – no football fans are seeking to extract any further flesh from RFC(IA) – they are dead already

The decision now is whether a New Club playing at Ibrox should be allowed to take the place of RFC(IA) – the fans are simply saying why should Sevco get this chance when the club that previously played at Ibrox have clearly been cheating for years?

Let Sevco line up with other potential new clubs and take their chances in the SFL

No pound of flesh is being extracted from Sec it is just just the consequence of being a New Club

You’re theory has a flaw. For the chain reaction to occur the density of neutrons must be above a certain density within a critical mass. The number of morons in Rangers is below that critical mass. However, throw in the rest of Scottish fitba and annihilation you indeed have.

    ………………………………………………

Aha. ‘Critical mass’ rears its ugly head again. Are you married to Darryl Broadfoot? :-)

  4. philvis – I said way back at the start of this going to Division 3 would give them a far more quantifiable income stream and allow the club to ramp up as they climbed the divisions. They would then be in a healthier position once they did reach the SPL.

Staying in the SPL is only good for Chico’s bottom line. However nobody is willing to make the hard calls.

I am just pointing out there is a hazard (and a perceived victory) sitting out there at the moment that Green could seize.

They aren’t dead yet…..they should be euthanised at the very first chance.

  5. Wise words as always AuldHeid – thanks for great contributions over the years.

Just 1 additional sanction I would want to see. It costs nothing and should be a legal requirement anyway. And it would really get the message home to everyone. What is it? No Newco name can include the name Rangers!

  8. RFCSTBIL are going to court yet again ?

Hately says it is just like signing a new lawyer.

  9. Auld Neil Lennon Heid

I hear what you are saying, but I do not consider that it meets with any definition of sporting integrity to allow a new club to start anywhere other than at the bottom of the pile.

This isn’t about punishing Rangers. Wwell, the SPL investigation into dual contracts is about punishing oldclub for breaking the rules, the SFA charge for disrepute due to non payment of social taxes and the presumed charge on them for bringing the SFA to court also merit punishment.

However, much of what is happenning to newclub is a conseuqnece of their being unable to meet the eligibility criteria to participate in competitions.

They don’t meet UEFA’s criteria because they don’t have three years audited accounts. They don’t qualify for Europe. This isn’t a punishment; many clubs of long establishment fail to qualify for Europe every year.

They don’t meet the SPL’s criteria unless they get a transfer of a share of an existing member, oldclub, as they didn’t win last season’s first division. To place them in a quickly formed SPL2 would be a slap in the fact to clubs in the current 2nd division who have earned their place in the pyramid off the steam of their own sweat. Newclub hasn’t done that yet. They’re a newclub, they start at the bottom.

It is far from certain that a newclub would have to pay oldclub’s debts, football or otherwise (why should they?), or accept the ban on signing players. Again, this was a ban placed on another SFA member club. So I don’t accept the premise of your argument, while understanding the sentiment.

As it stands Oldclub have had a 10 point deduction and a £100,000 fine in terms of sporting sanctions. Everything else is a consequence, not a punishment.

Newclubs start at the bottom, end of story.

  10. Typical i write a post and then a new article appears after 25 pages, Doh!

Tom, first of all i applaud your post in relation to your brothers, i wasnt brought up too far away from you and have 3 celtic supporting brothers who are dotted around the globe and i know what it is to celebrate all things celtic when we catch up. I too will raise a glass to your brother, them and others that day when the flag flies.

I am glad you have decided to bite as you call it and thats what makes cqn unique in that we all have differing views and hopefully from these views we are better informed as to every scenario that can play out. If it wasn’t for people questioning the status quo would we not have had the “internet bampots” showing the MSM how investigative journalism should work!!!

If i was to use the last year of GS reign where we should have flexed our muscle in relation to the supposed GOD and bought Fletcher, McCarthy in that “willo window”. The money from PL’s bonus would have bought McCarthy and when you look at the success of Fletcher 12 goals last season in the relegated team. DD said we would push on from when we won the league the year TB passed away. These were soundbites and I felt let down , we brought in TM and we know where that left us and took a chance on a rookie manager who if he “wasn’t one of our own” compared to GS who wasn’t celtic minded, he would have probably been shown the door for not winning the league last season and we were 45minutes from utter chaos again were we not?.

The situation was such a shambles that the board gambled we sold the family silver Aidan and any other saleable asset, luckily NL and Park did unearth some gems which is where we find ourselves today imo.

I wouldn’t mind clarification on the “people like me” are we drawing a comparison between a happy clapper and mind shafter Tom!!!. If Rangers had more “people or should that be ” we ara peepil like me” questioning what is going on then they wouldn’t be in the position they are in. We never found a happy medium between success on the pitch and balance sheet, and i thought we were lifting balance sheets on the first day of those 3 seasons rather than trophies!!!

We have a ceo who gets a bonus from spending less and cutting the wage bill, did that not go too far over 3 years and looked like four. Should season books not be less money if the product is less this season yet we have put up prices, thats a great reward for 4 seasons for the fans support.(maybe thats why we’re fans not customers).

Celtic by abstaining “as they risk alienating those fans who want a newco in DIV3 and those who want them in spl amongst our support” could this not be an option? Allow the other clubs to do the dirty work, who knows but that could also be a scenario.

I wrote on here before the last game against them that i would miss the games as i would find it difficult to find a match that has all I am looking for. What other matches will we have this next season when they are gone. I don’t think we are good enough for the CL group stages , yes i hope we do but how much better are we than the team that entered the Europa league last season?

  11. RogueLeader:

Sorry mate, I didn’t articulate that last post too well.

What I have noticed of late is that some huns with guile (who were previously very anti-Celtic) are now moderating their language and all of a sudden we have a horde of huns miraculously discovering contrition. They just can’t communicate it with sincerity though some Tims are being roped in.

I agree, send them to hell and give them the bus fare before they bleat victim and walk away with sympathy.

Oh and before they go, could somebody please tap them on the shoulder and politely ask them to give us back the titles they stole from us and the future they stole from all the young and promising Scottish footballing kids?

They destroyed a generation and a half of gifted Scottish kids futures. No team could take the risk of introducing youngsters when they were hell bent on buying every trophy and with the publicpurse picking up half the bill.

  16. Auldheid from yesterday at about 18:43,

I’m 100% up for the membership scheme and think any way in which Celtic supporters/ ambassadors can actively contribute to the Celtic matchday would be an excellent way to go.

You lost me with (sorry if its obvious, but naw tae me) the concessionary seats at CP, is this intended to make it easier for “existing” concessionary ST holders or to enable “New or returning” ST holders? Either way I’m not sure that it would be easily administered with current staff levels, additional staff is most likely not an option at the present time.

I would wish the additional revenue to be used for a super dooper much improved Celtic TV, thus encouraging Celts from around the globe better access (and quality) of the matchday experience (Green Brigade TV – GBTV ha!), this would provide additional revenue and sponsorship when the membership numbers climb.

As I said, I’m 100% behind the membership scheme idea and would definitely put additional monies into it if e.g. I had (official) access to live games. I have a season ticket but live outside Scotland so I’m not always able to get to Celtic park and never usually go to midweek games, early kick offs and Sunday games are also a nightmare for those outside Scotland (outside Glasgow for that matter), so improved Celtic TV would be a great boost pour moi and many more like me.

Just for the sake of pedantry, Newco will be out of Europe for 4 years, not just 3. They would have to produce 3 years worth of audited accounts before being allowed to enter European competition.

Unless there is an unlikely shake-up of the League structure (which cannot, to be fair, ruled out with some of the jellyheads we have administering the game), they won’t need their passports until summer 2016 at least.

  20. I loathe and despise, with all my heart & soul, the hun and all his manifestations from Govan to Belfast, and anywhere else the diseased critter rises.

Rangers administrators Duff and Phelps have been ordered to prove there is no conflict of interest over their role.

The move, ordered by Lord Hodge at the Court of Session in Edinburgh, comes after a recent BBC documentary raised concerns about the issue.

Lord Hodge said he took no view about the BBC programme.

But he said Duff and Phelps should produce a report showing they had obtained and acted on legal advice on the question of conflict of interest.

Rangers was forced into administration by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) on 14 February over non-payment of tax totalling about £14m.

    Rangers liquidated

Craig Whyte, who bought the club from Sir David Murray last year, was successful in having his nominated firm, Duff and Phelps, appointed.

Following a hearing at the Court of Session, presided over by Lord Hodge, David Whitehouse and Paul Clark were appointed as joint administrators of the club.

They have since negotiated a sale of the club’s assets to a consortium led by Charles Green for £5.5m after creditors rejected an agreement which would have seen Rangers repay pennies in the pound for estimated debts of about £134m.

The 140-year-old club is now set to be wound up by HMRC’s preferred liquidators BDO.

Mr Green has since formed a new club and is attempting to get access to the Scottish Premier League.

Last month, BBC Scotland broadcast the documentary – Rangers: The Men Who Sold The Jerseys.

The programme raised questions over a possible conflict of interest for Rangers’ administrators which were strenuously denied by Duff and Phelps.

The issue over any possible conflict of interest was raised by Lord Hodge at a hearing about the administration process on Friday.

    ‘Public interest’

The judge said he took no view about what the BBC had said, but wanted to know whether Duff and Phelps had obtained and acted on legal advice on the question of conflict of interest.

Lord Hodge said he had done nothing until now because he did not want to hinder the process of Rangers going into liquidation.

But, he told the accountants’ lawyers: “There is considerable public interest in this jurisdiction in relation to the administration.”

Lord Hodge added: “I do not want the administration to come to an end without having received that report.”

The report demanded by Lord Hodge is expected to be ready in three weeks and a further court hearing is likely to be arranged after that.
