Sevco need clarity on SPL vote more than the actual votes

1395

News that Dundee United will vote against allocating a place in next season’s SPL to Sevco confirms what we suggested yesterday, that sentiment has swung against the notion.  Motherwell’s innovative idea of allowing fans (who have already expressed overwhelming opposition to the idea) a vote is further evidence that even hard-pressed clubs are prepared to make financially difficult decisions.  Suggestions that the Motherwell board should grow a pair and take responsibility themselves have some merit.

Stewart Milne has denied BBC reports that Aberdeen have decided to vote against but I expect this is a matter of due process more than any genuine indecision.

There was a feeling this morning that matters could be brought to a head sooner than 4 July if enough clubs publicly declared against Sevco.  This would suit Charles Green’s company as they would be able to prepare offers to Rangers players (who they are able to sign) knowing where they are likely to end up.  If they are forced to wait until 4 July, Sevco will not know what squad requirements they will need for next season before making a decision on what Rangers players to offer employment to.

More than SPL football, Sevco need clarity.  A rush to declare against them might seem harsh but it would be enormously beneficial rather than being forced to wait a further 12 days.

Scotland in he 1960’s was so Oldco. I left school in 1960 . There were plenty of jobs available then. However, ‘whit school did you go to’ was on most application forms, unless you were applying for a job in Bar and Strouds: no ambivalence there ‘ Whit Boys Brigade Company did you belong to.’ certain trades were a closed shop to aspiring Tims: tool maker, pattern maker, shipwright, just to name a few.

You younger Celtic supporters are so fortunate, in as much, that the IT revolution opened up job opportunities which did not need ‘the faithers hand shake’ to get you employed.

The so called ‘wee are ra people’ are dead, buried and hopefully beyond resurrection.

Make sure that they are well and truly buried. My generation are relying on you’ Countless previous good Tims have died prematurely from ‘foundry stoor’ coal dust, and other non ‘tool making, fitting and turning, engineering type trades They went to the wrong school but educated their sons and Grand sons.

Make sure that their sacifices were not in vain. No Newco in the SPL

Little story from last night. Watched Portugal v Czechs on RTE. Stat comes up which shows goal attempts- Czech 2(on target 0) and Portugal 11(on target 2).

RTE commentator pipes up that the Portugal on target stat is clearly wrong as they’ve hit the post about 4 times….

Are you not confusing punishment with correction?

    ——————————-

They are all consequences that flow from the cause but it will feel like a punishment to the average Rangers supporter..

Now whether that will be corrective in terms of their future behaviour I have my doubts, they seem incorrigible.

Whether it is a weak “Rangers” or no “Rangers” my estimates for CL would hold true I’d suggest. Point is – we could argue the detail but the “financial argument” is, at worst, not proven and some way short of being so compelling that sporting integrity be abandoned.

The Celtic board have said 1. We are not financially dependent on “Rangers” and 2. That Celtic will vote for what is best for them and Scottish football and 3. The Green Brigade and other fans groups were sufficiently comfortable after meetings with the club to purchase season books.

The rumour mill from those claiming to know the inside story from Celtic is that they will vote “no”.

I guess you can choose to believe that or not.

What is not precluded is some half cocked carve up like the SFL Div 1 idea as an appeasement to all. This appears now to be the biggest worry. However, Green is looking to make money. Money means selling a club on secure footing to fans and making a quick buck. Business case starts to fail without SPL income – managing and running European scale assets on SFL income. No one else is interested – £30m black hole. The die hard traditionalists will be under huge internet bampot scrutiny if the try and walk back in.

I don’t want to get too excited but it really looks all done for them even as a zombie.

The Celtic board, as has been articulated many times on here, publically need to do very little.

On my hols at the moment, glad to see some fellow SPL acting with integrity about the vote on the 4th of July.

I assume Green’s backers will pull the plug on their involvement with Sevco, leaving Mr Green with assets that no team going forward can afford to purchase or lease from him. He will have to take a big hit on what he can sell them for at that point step forward old Wattie Myth.

If they secure these assets at a fraction of what Green paid then the next step will be to buy op a First Div. SFL club, expect to see this pretty soon. If Green refuses to sell at a massive loss, Myth and McColl will still buy another club and try to negotiate on ground sharing at Hampden or Thistle until Green has to sell.

This would give Newhuns a year to build the club back up bring some medium sized investors and do a fans share issue. They would in 12 months be in a pretty secure position to return to the SPL no penalties, no transfer bans and access to substantial sums of money.

They would be in a pretty powerful position with the potential to return to Europe after 1 season in the SPL

  12. Afternoon all from a suddenly summery North Ayrshire.

I believe the Celtic supporter and his mate have pulled out of their bid for the dead team from Govan. That’s a real shame. They could have sold off the assets and invested it in the big team in Glasgow.

    Any more declarations?

This is way beyond anything I could have wished for but I’m loving every minute. It makes up for the years of cheating.

I DO agree with the supporter who said he would clap Hearts and Dundee Und on to the pitch for the next game at Celtic Park. I will extend that to every team who says No to newco in the SPL.

One fear that I have is that the level of players that we are courting will take one look at the mess that the SPL is in, at least from the outside, and say, “Thanks, but no thanks. Life’s too short”.

  16. This has been the easiest off field game the Celtic board have ever played.

All you have to do is say nothing, don’t inflame others, let the truth come out, don’t give excuses for headlines accusing us of hatred, bias or vindictiveness.

It ain’t hard – keep schtum. Let the facts of the case do their work. Let the internet ‘bampots’ tell the story, let the world watch without suspecting Celtic are manipulating things.

    And watch them kill themselves.

    Easy Peasy, lemony squeezy!!!!

  17. James Forrest is Neil Lennon! We are ALL Neil Lennon! on

    I reconcile it easily.

My post on GersNet is a message of congratulations to someone showing contrition. If more Rangers fans believed it I would not want their club washed away.

Some version of that club will emerge from the nuclear wasteland to come. If the writer of that article, and people like him, are in the forefront of that club it can rise to become a genuine footballing rival to us … and who would not welcome that?

I think perhaps the best description of how I feel can be summed up by what Liam Neeson says to Aiden Quinn in Michael Collins; “I do hate them,” he says. “I hate them for making hate necessary.”

Wipe that club away, force them to rebuild. The knuckle dragging tendency don’t have it in them to rebuild. They could not do what the founders of their club – for all their troubles – did. They need something to dance around, something to follow. There are no leaders amongst them. Only loud voices, like the fat bear gutted tattooed freak in the pub …

The present version of that club is a disease. If they are allowed to survive on the present terms the arrogance and hate which drives them now will seem minor and then the moderates will be the ones who walk away.

The moderates themselves make me sick, to be honest. I applaud that one lone voice in the wilderness, but they are sheep, and mate, do not make the mistake of thinking the reality of what even the moderates are has escaped me.

On the night they reached the UEFA Cup Final those “moderates” and the haters too were all the same family. When The Billy Boys was being blasted out in their pubs, when The Famine Song was being played on the supporters buses those “moderates”, every one of them, was singing with the rest.

I know it. You know it. We all know it.

Yes, I congratulate him for an outbreak of sanity. Sanity is in short supply. And I will admit to an ulterior motive too … I like to sow dissension in their ranks whenever I can. A battle for the soul of that club is in the bests interests of that club in the long term … but in the short term it will add to the carnage, and that’s perfectly fine by me, and I hope that the moderates do try and grab the reigns. The spectacle of Ra Peepil tearing their club apart from the inside is one which would make me smile, and applaud, and bring me happiness.

The sorry fact is, if the moderates had REALLY been moderates, had they loved their club enough, had they cared about its reputation, they would either have launched their counter-coup years ago, or it would never have been necessary in the first place. I am not convinced by their sincerity or their guts.

For all that, I meant what I said and I do wish them well. But waiting for them to do it will not see it done. The simple fact is, in order for that club to change, for it to grow, for it to mature, for the moderates to be the loudest voices, they are going to need a fundamental shifting in the landscape.

They don’t have it in them to create the circumstances for real change, so real change must be forced on them.

Let the fires burn. Scour the world of the present incarnation.

Then, and only then, will any possibility of moderation emerge. But it will require a full-scale turning of the tide in order to eliminate the arrogance and superiority which has come to categorise them.

It will take a process of enforced humility, of inflicted suffering, a period of pain. And that is what’s coming, and not before time.

There are gates blocking the main entrance to Estadio Nacional, however, after several minutes of disappointment we decided we were going over them anyway.

Some of us were on the park taking pictures when the security guard appeared (I was halfway up the main stand by this point, on my way to get a picture taken). We thought our fun was over, but the guard just asked if we were all Celtic fans, then told us to take out time and when we were finished, to walk down the players tunnel (a chorus of Hail Hail as we done it) which brings you to another entrance/exit which the guard said was always open anyway!!

So, if you do get around to visiting Estadio Nacional, walk 200 yards past the main entrance & turnstiles, turn left into the security guard courtyard, and your first experience of the old stadium will be when you walk up the tunnel and out onto the park (which certainly beats clambering over fences)!!

Hello from Dubrovnik! Keep up the good fight at work! Found myself the Dubrovnik Celtic supporters bar! Happy days!

  26. Read the report that at the Court of Session in Edinburgh Lord Hodge referred to the BBC television programme last month and called for a full report. He said he took no view about what the BBC had said, but wanted to know whether Duff and Phelps had obtained and ‘acted on legal advice’ on the question of conflict of interest.

Does anybody know his options if they did not? Is it a slap on the wrist and sale goes ahead? (assuming Green is still around) If not does the sale stop and then what? Surely he cannot appoint someone ese to act at this late stage? Does he just ask DBO to move in and liquidate?
