SFA and Sevco agree on embargo

719

This evening we received clarity on two items first reported here and on several other locations months ago.  Sevco have accepted the 12 month player registration embargo handed down by Lord Carloway’s Appellate Tribunal as a condition of their application for membership of the SFA, while Fifa have granted four former Rangers players permission to sign for new clubs.

The SFA, under president Campbell Ogilvie, took every step possible to alert Sevco that if they did not accept the transfer embargo a more severe penalty would be imposed on Rangers, whose licence they are trying to acquire.  Hopes of “elimination” from the Scottish Cup as an alternative punishment were based on false logic, and were also just silly.

Sevco disputed the embargo, hoping the SFA would offer to set it aside, as it tried to set-aside so many other rules to accommodate them in recent weeks, however, the best the new company could achieve was an accommodation to allow them to stock up on players over the next five weeks in order to off-set the effects of so many players ‘walking away’.

There is a chance this decision will save Sevco a second season in the SFL Third Division but there remains many hurdles for the new club to achieve before they start and complete a football season.

No mention yet of what the SFA and SPL plan to do with the plethora of other disciplinary matters due against Rangers, or how they proposed to prevent their own independent judicial process from reaching an inconvenient verdict.

    Coorslad,

Sorry I wasn’t clear, my main points were about the lack of convictions for terrorist threats to our manager, I understood your info about the shop which is why I thanked you for the info.

I am very suspicious about why the investigations which required a news blackout appear to have stopped

  8. Looks like we’re enduring our now annual beating by Thistle, with players not good enough to be on the trip to Amsterdam and who we would think would be good enough to beat a Thistle side but clearly are not. We still have too bloated a squad.

From what i am hearing SevCo received just under half of the £800k upfront

The rest is based on Southampton staying up. Apparently they wanted him playing asap to get him integrated into the team. Green had let it be known they would ‘release’ his registration immediately if they could come to some arrangement. If they stay up £800k is a drop in the ocean from a minimum £40m+

ALLY McCOIST has come out strongly in relation to proposed sanctions against Rangers which are being demanded over the club’s membership of the SFA.

The manager is unhappy that the SFA released a statement last night when an agreement had not been reached.

He contends that a signing ban is not an appropriate action and he has vowed that he will contest vigorously any attempt to strip Rangers of any titles.

McCoist had hoped to lead his depleted squad into action in friendlies in the coming days but the lack of SFA membership has prevented him from doing so.

The manager said today: “I am extremely disappointed that the SFA chose to release a statement last night when the Club has not actually signed any agreement.

“The club is trying to get to a position where we can plan for the season, which starts in only eight days.

“We have had meetings with the SFA all week to discuss membership but I had to leave the final meeting as I could not support the sanctions they were trying to impose.

“The decision has already been taken to place Rangers in Division 3 and we have accepted that, along with many more punishments. However, operating with an embargo on an already depleted first team squad – even with a window to sign players – will make the task ahead an extremely difficult one.

“It is important to remember we have already had a 10 point deduction from the SPL, lost our Champions League place for finishing second last season, had a £160,000 fine, been refused entry to the SPL, been relegated to Division 3 and lost the majority of our first team squad – yet still the governing body has chosen to impose further sanctions.

“The transfer ban has been strongly resisted by me, the management team, the Directors and supporters. Indeed The Rangers Fans Fighting Fund appointed a QC to defend the Club’s position as the sanction was not available to the Appellate Tribunal.

“From a business point of view I can understand the position the Board has been placed in and ultimately they felt they had no choice but to accept some sanctions in order to move forward – as one of the alternatives could have led to the extinction of the Club.

“The Rangers fans have been magnificent throughout this entire process and on behalf of everyone at the Club I would like to thank them once again for their loyalty.

“I can also assure every Rangers fan I will not be accepting any talk of stripping the Club of titles. That is something we will never accept and everyone at the Club shares this view.

“We all need to get back to focusing on football but again my plans have been hampered as we have had to cancel a tour in the Highlands this weekend that would have helped us prepare for the season ahead.

“This is still Rangers Football Club and the supporters will continue to back us as they have always done. There will be difficult times ahead but I know with the support of our fans we can emerge stronger and rise to the challenge.

“Talks will continue next week and we all hope common sense will prevail to allow us to get back playing football.”

@Andy_EK The SFA & SPL have all the evidence. I have seen the evidence. There is no doubt: Rangers cheated.

Mr. McCoist needs to understand- cheating from 2001-2011 has not been punished- and what he will accept is of no consequence to anyone.

  18. Just glanced the Daily Express “Gers accept signing ban” headline – the story then goes on to explain how “Rangers” will build a world beating squad in 42 days.

MSM coverage gets more and more stomach churningly sickening the longer this scandal goes on. They are happily backing them, and can’t wait to cover the Ramsdens and Div 3 as if it’s the Champions League.

  19. Bourne isn’t it just great for Scottish football that in the future any teams falling foul of the game can just negotiate until the punishment is dumbed down to acceptable levels.

    Have we resigned yet?
