SFA and Sevco agree on embargo

719

This evening we received clarity on two items first reported here and on several other locations months ago.  Sevco have accepted the 12 month player registration embargo handed down by Lord Carloway’s Appellate Tribunal as a condition of their application for membership of the SFA, while Fifa have granted four former Rangers players permission to sign for new clubs.

The SFA, under president Campbell Ogilvie, took every step possible to alert Sevco that if they did not accept the transfer embargo a more severe penalty would be imposed on Rangers, whose licence they are trying to acquire.  Hopes of “elimination” from the Scottish Cup as an alternative punishment were based on false logic, and were also just silly.

Sevco disputed the embargo, hoping the SFA would offer to set it aside, as it tried to set-aside so many other rules to accommodate them in recent weeks, however, the best the new company could achieve was an accommodation to allow them to stock up on players over the next five weeks in order to off-set the effects of so many players ‘walking away’.

There is a chance this decision will save Sevco a second season in the SFL Third Division but there remains many hurdles for the new club to achieve before they start and complete a football season.

No mention yet of what the SFA and SPL plan to do with the plethora of other disciplinary matters due against Rangers, or how they proposed to prevent their own independent judicial process from reaching an inconvenient verdict.

  4. See the Southampton website has an official release saying they have come to an amicable arrangement with Sevco re Davis.

Begs the question….why would Southampton pay ( assume they have) for someone the could get for nothing?

    Very strange one.

  5. They can just about get away with changing the laws of football to suit. But BDO will surely have something to say about breaches of TUPE.

Firstly, why would Southampton offer up a fee for a player on a free? Just to help out and be nice?

And secondly even if there was any fee it goes to Rangers and the creditors, not Sevco. Davis was offered a TUPE transfer from Rangers to Sevco and refused. He was never a Sevco employee at any stage – so how could they claim any fee for him?

  6. I dont get this? I thought he had mot transferred to Sevco. Who gets the money?

    RANGERS and Southampton Football

Club have agreed terms for the transfer of Steven Davis. The two clubs have agreed an

undisclosed fee for the transfer of the player.

Charles Green, Chief Executive of Rangers, said: ” I am delighted that we have agreed terms over the transfer of Steven Davis.

“Southampton have acted in good faith

during the process. We wish them every

success and they have signed a player who will undoubtedly make a great contribution to their club – just as he did at Ibrox.”

” Aurelio De Laurentiis and Rangers won’t happen . He was interested but he wants to buy a club with a less demanding financial situation “

  11. regards davis, think the money they offer is chicken feed on the grand scale of things, better to pay a few 100k than have to wait and fight to allow the player to play football. makes things easier for him and them. dont think other clubs will be so accommodating

  12. Morning all in Timland!

All you lucky guys going for a cheeky wee refreshment please remember those of us who are stuck in work today. 4 o’clock finish and I’m already salivating! Just been listening to the Bee Gees with the old headphones on and it got me wondering –

    It’s a `tragedy’ that Sevco are `staying alive’.

However, with the `wind of change’ blowing a gale throught Scoddish football I feel that the board have played the long game very well indeed. Yes, a recognised defender and forward would be fantastic and there is still a couple of weeks left to get someone in.

So less of the negative `jive talking’ instead `you should be dancing’.

How do you support Celtic from Australia or any far flung, – Won’t make it to the game on a Saturday – , place?

    I do Celtic pools.

I had actually considered buying a season ticket and just lending it out to whoever, but that seemed a bit daft.

I’m not really into the buy-a-brick thingy.

The postage kills me if I buy from the superstore.

So I think I’m sticking with the pools.

Any you guys in the same predicament?

Will BDO ever get involved for it seems to me there are a number of issues that could unravel what looks like dodgy dealing.

If I were HMRC I would be looking closely at the attempts to treat old and new clubs as the same busness. A team called The Rangers playing in light blue at Ibrox in front of the same customers, with only a change of owner, looks a prima facie case of being the same entity.

As a life long tax payer I would expect the tax collecters to have collection as their prime objective and I would not take their silence as case closed.

The SFA in deciding to grant membership on a spurious transfer basis should have asked HMRC their view if BDO find the “transaction under liquidation rules was in fact a sham sale for further tax dodging purposes and Rangers and The Rangers are the same entity.
