SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

  1. Paul regularly mentions a fait accompli being presented by Zombie Rangers. I think though that it is us who will be presenting the fait accompli now.

If, as has been suggested many times, the actions of Der Hun run all the way to the top, and everything will be done to protect them, the only way now for them to even attempt to save their scrawny necks and tainted baubles is to liquidate now and hope that process hampers the investigation enough for it to be forgotten.

I think the final Glasgow Derby has already been played.

    Play;-)

  3. Regan’s a day late and a dollar short. His woeful twitter outing on this matter has rendered his position untenable. He should hold out for the same gagging clause that Farry and Dallas got and hopefully in 5 years time this will have blown over enough that he can get a job with some cowboy builder or backwater FA

  4. “Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003”.

Classic Paul, you just keep rolling them out!!

  5. SFA investigation into Rangers tangled web of crimes – long time coming.

When will investigation of the SFA’s involvement in the above crimes commence and who will run it?

    Quis custodiet ipsos custodes

  6. Paul,

    a few thoughts.

    1. New look for the blog – excellent.

    2. Last few articles – superb.

    3. Game changer. Up until now, Rangers’ future hung solely on the shoofly peg of the EBT issue. However, they could win that now, and still be doomed. What first appeared to be collateral damage of the EBTs – how they administered the actual contracts – has become a stand alone game changer. While UEFA/FIFA may try to avoid becoming involved in a case of financial doping in what, to them, is a football backwater, they could not possibly stay out of a case of unregistered players.

While I believe that the SFA/SPL don’t want to take this on, higher powers should compel them to do so.

Should be an interesting few days, weeks, months……..

This would be a good time to dust off ideas about Atlantic leagues and the like.

  8. Soon we shall know that we prevailed against cheating.

I think that along with Fergus unfurling the flag on the first day of next season we should have Labi Siffre singing Something Inside So Strong.

I’d be a bubbling wreck at such an occasion!

Congratulations to yourself and this site but I also think a big well done should go to RTC who may well have flushed Regan out into the open over this after his article.

  10. Why ?

    cos we are the people

    what does that even mean

cos the big house must stay open

    thats the bottom line

  11. It’s a work in progress but….as Francis Albert Sinatra would have sung had he been alive today….

“And now, the end is near and so they face the final curtain.

The h*ns ‘don’t walk away’, so why on earth are they desertin?

Complicit SFA they played their part, ignored the danger.

We’ll say we sat and watched the end of rangers…..”

Hope you end up singing that one too Pigalle!

The reaction from UEFA on all this is surely going to be heavy.

The SFA and Rankers in Administration are proving to be a right thorn in their side – they’ve soiled 15+ years of European competition.

Any news on when we can start chasing up for compensation??

Paul, Would you ever consider writing a book on the years since the inception of CQN? From breaking news about JVOH and Tommy G signing to Dallasgate to the Big Hoose it’s been some journey so far and long may it continue. Keep it up please.

  16. Keep it coming Paul….

Loving the congrats on the last line of every new post to the cheated clubs affected by this ever growing scandal.

    Sensational.

  19. The administrators of Rangers Football Club have secured a court order to seize £3.6m from Craig Whyte’s solicitors.

Duff and Phelps has taken the action as it tries to keep the Ibrox club afloat.

Money from the sale of season tickets to Ticketus, thought to be around £24m, was transferred to Collyer Bristow before Whyte’s takeover.

Of that, £18m was used to pay off debts owed to Lloyds Banking Group.

Once Rangers went into administration, Duff and Phelps confirmed they did not have ‘visibility’ of the rest of money.

Their representative Paul Clark said it believed it to be held in a lawyer’s account relating to Rangers parent company but not the club itself.

Collyer Bristow are used as Craig Whyte solicitors and handled the finances during the purchase of Sir David Murray’s shares.

A statement is expected from Ranegrs administrators Duff and Phelps on Friday afternoon. It is understood that the money secured will not affect decisions taken on redundancies at the club.
