SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

    Good Morning,

Some of you will remember that last year I highlighted the very very strange goings on that surround one of Scotland’s brightest young managers- Derek Adams.

Young Adams had received some strange touchline bans during his first time in charge of Ross County, including the one where the disciplinary committee decided to charge him with breaching an existing ban by going to the refrees room during the game as a result of being invited to attend the room by the referee himself. Of course when I say “Invite”– I really mean the type of invitation that is delivered as an order.

Despite this appearing ludicrous, the refereeing committee decided to charge Adams with an offence in his absence, try him in his absence and then proceeded to sentence him in his absence with the result that the letter which arrived in the post said that he was now banned from the touchline for something like 3 months if I recall correctly.

Then when he moved to Hibs, the Edinburgh club were a bit astounded when their assisstant manager was again sent to the stand one day for unprofessional conduct– although nobody else on the touchline could understand what had happend as there did not appear to have been any incident at all. This was later compounded with an accustaion that Adams swore at a match official at alater game and so with the bans totting up procedure, Adams faced the potential of a ban for — wait for it– 26 matches!

Now this did not happen when a legal chairman threw out the majority of the Ross County bans as being absolutely rediculous , and the SFA decided not to proceed with the first Hibs dismissal when the referee concerned completely “forgot” why he had sent Adams to the stand and could not provide any justifiable reason for his actions. The Swearing one? Well that was booted out too– because- well — it is widely known that rather unusually in football– Derek Adams just does not swear! So it was no great surprise when no one could offer any evidence of him swearing at all.

Now you may wonder why I raise this matter this morning. Well it is very possible that next year Derek Adams will be managing in the SPL given Ross County’s current position and of corse depending on what unusual configurations may result from the ever unfolding events at Ibrox. That would mean that Adams.. and the way he is treated… will come under ever greater scrutiny, which may well be no bad thing.

Why is it no bad thing? Well you see something is just not righthere. A real gaff in refereeing and discipline is always possible, but when you get repeated decisions which are just inexplicable then that starts to look highly suspicious.

But that of course was before Dougie Dougie, Dallasgate and the new transparent and fair SFA was ushered in by Stewart Regan.

Except that fairly reently Derek Adams was banned yet again for no apparent reason by a top referee. He appealed in the normal manner and at the appeal hearing he was represented by Paul McBride QC.

I am reliably informed that during the hearing the referee concerned was giving evidence under oath when the following remarkable exchange took place.

McBride- So you decided to send Mr Adams to the stand

    Referee- Yes

McBride- And the reason for sending Mr Adams to the stand was the behaviour you have described

    Referee- Yes

McBride- If another manager had behaved in the same way, say Stephen Presley of Falkirk- If he had behaved in exactly the same way- would you have sent him to the stand?

    Referee-NO!

Needless to say the proceedings effectively ended there and then.

However, the referee concerned will be in charge of a leading match this weekend– and presumably be able to demonstrate the same startling objectivity and fairness of mind.

    Praise the Lord!!

yep – 4-4! He was a shambles! terrible hand ball for a pen i believe.

Craig Burley still a muppet. WGS and Packie rightly explain our team is on an amazing run, pulled back 15 points etc. Burley then says ‘I don’t care what any celtic fan says, the shine has been taken off the league win’

NO WAY! i’ve never seen such a points swing in my life! In any league! What a league win this will be.

    Hail Hail!

    You have me confused —–

Do you mean Sicily or Sardinia .?

Taormina is in Sicily [ north of Catania / south of Messina ]

Taormina is beautiful.. Beautiful setting , beautiful town , fab places to eat , good beaches etc. Jim Kerr has a hotel there. All very chic and very expensive . Mick Jagger has a house there . The Beckhams have a house there. Frank Lampard has a house there. A beautiful place but I wouldn’t go there in the summer -way too touristy and way too expensive . I was there last May —- stopped for an espresso in Catania and paid 60 cents , went for an espresso in Taormina and witnessed German tourists paying 5 Euros for an espresso whilst locals paid 1.50 euros —
