SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

  1. With those players, can’t wait to see the shape of the team.

Good to see Hoops and Stokes up front, can see Stokes getting a goal today

  2. I’d be surprised if Charlie is playing centre mid so is there a chance we’re talking 5-3-2 here (and 3-5-2 when attacking

    I mean –

    Lustig Rogne Wilson Mulgrew Blackman

    Forrest Ledley Commons

    Stokes Hooper

    In Neil, I trust.

  4. Really hope we pump the sheep and get it right up that horrible old runt Brown – add to the pain of his beggars in the blue being in administration.

  5. THEIR hurt and humiliation biting deeper by the day almost certainly guarantees yet another hatefest at Edminston Drive’s Big Hoose this afternoon.

Following a similar event at the same venue a fortnight ago today, Strathclyde Police announced one arrest.for sectarian related offences.

Given that on Thursday of this week, the Scottish Government’s anti sectarian legislation became law, it will be of interest to see how many sectarianism related arrests today’s hatefest produces.

  6. Another random thought…

I’m got a feeling that the Ipox players to receive P45s were told yesterday. No announcement was made for two reasons:

    – to ensure as big an attendance as possible for today’s game

    – to avoid Manchester-like riots last night and tonight in Glasgow.

It should be interesting to see what team lines up at 15:00 today.

  7. There is reference in the press today to the huns’ tax matters all being dealt with by MIH – for a fee of course.

As well as being another example of Murray taking money out of the club, this also goes to the heart of the defence that some will be arguing – it was MIH and not Rangers that done it, guv. Us poor Directors of Rangers didn’t know what was happening.

But that just doesn’t fly – unless all of the players involved were actually employed by MIH of course. The club is responsible and cannot rely on a defence of bad advice. And the Director are responsible for the management of the club.

In theory I guess Rangers could sue MIH for costing it money. But I would bet that Murray had a wee clause stashed somewhere deep in a big contract that no one read saying there would be no liability in the event of honest mistakes by his tax people.

  8. Hopefully Blackman is steady on his debut – no fears over Lustig, international defender.

As long as Blackman has a performance better than when Edson Braafheid “starred” at Pittodrie, he’ll be fine.

  9. Charlie should be LM with Commons behind behind the front two. Diamond in midfield to defeat the Dons.

Looking forward to seeing the new Bhoys.

  10. EKBhoy – can’t confirm that but I’m reliably informed that Legends show all games, home and away.

  11. Been catching up on the week’s Clyde phone-ins. Both Keevins and Speirs criticised Celtic, on different broadcasts, for not paying Rangers up front for Ibrox tickets, describing their actions variously as ‘childish’, ‘petty’ and ‘vindictive’.

Eventually a Celtic supporter called in and suggested that the reason for Celtic not paying up front might be to do with not wanting to throw good money after bad, to which Speirs gave ground by admitting that “maybe the caller has a point”.

First of all, I find it incredulous that a journalist as savvy as Graham Speirs did not even let it cross his mind that there may be a very valid reason of financial prudence rather than mishief-making behind Celtic’s refusal to pay up front, until a caller planted the notion in his head.

On last night’s show, when pressed by another caller, Keevins finally conceded that, “Given the news that has come out today, Celtic are quite right not to pay Rangers up front.”

Evidently Peter Lawwell has more foresight than Scottish journalists, whose job it is to see the bigger picture – without fear or favour.

Been around most of the ones you mentioned, but Ghana is tops.

  13. I don’t have a good feeling about today’s game. Difficult away tie, dodgy pitch, bad weather and players away in midweek. Still, I felt the same before the Hearts game and that turned out ok.

I hope the police have many extra officers at the Bigot Dome today. Much as I hate Salmond’s new law it is now in force and if the police don’t use it then what’s the point? Or is it only designed to be implemented one way?

Wonder how the hun players are feeling? Will those that are going want to put in one last big performance or will they be protecting themselves in case injuries hurt their chances of a new contract elsewhere?

  14. I believe that it was Jim Duffy who made a very valid point last night.

That was. Why are extremely well paid administrators apparently leaving it to players to decide who goes and who stays?

  15. If players know who is leaving next week, why would they play and risk injury and therefore would not be able to pick up a club next week?

    Makes sense tae me!

Interesting changes to the team, blackman starts – Izzy must have came back too early from the leg break.

Will be good to see Lustig play, I have no idea what he will be like!

And another start for Commons will be good to get his fitness up.

Would have liked a look at Brozek but I suppose we might in the last half hour when we’re 3 or 4 up ;-)

    Hail Hail!

  17. CELTIC (4-4-2) Forster; Lustig, Rogne, Wilson, Blackman; Forrest, Mulgrew, Ledley, Commons; Hooper, Stokes

Subs: Zaluska, Cha, Matthews, Wanyama, Loovens, Brozek, McGeouch

  18. West Wales Celt on

Blackman left back, Lustig right back and Chaz left mid.

No Victor. No Izzy. No Ki?

Where are all the missing payers?

Are some still away, are there additional injuries?

Re. Braffheid – and to think he played in the last world cup final – unbelievable!!

  20. Hard one to predict today with the forced changes to the team- too many changes can fairly mess up their rythmm, and the sheep (can I still say that?) have been defending well over the past couple of months- looks like a low scorer unless we get an early one in.

Keep the pressure on the tax avoiders (in administration)

Mate,we have so many sharp cards in our pack that they will never get away with their spin.

Problem is, having power can be more important than being in the right.

    They still have power.

    But,we`re working on that.

Interviewing Trevor Stephens, who uses the concept of fairness when talking about how unfair this process in on the players. He also uses the word dignity in describing that wee bawface FB.

Interested that Stephens was also a player at rfcia in the period 1992 -1997. I wonder if Hugh Adam or Campbell Ogilvie ever dealt with him !!!

How that man made it to the WC Final, I’ll never know. Never, EVER looked comfortable against footballing giants such as Aberdeen, St. Mirren etc. I still shudder when I think back to that 4-4 (sure it was!) match up at Pittodrie!

  25. I will not believe they are doomed until I see a forced evacuation of players from Ibroke. The Huns’ finger nails seem to be made of titanium. Their death grip seemingly cannot be prised open. Concerned my Ice cream may be past its sell by date by the time we can relax and enjoy their demise.

Strange midfield that. Fingers crossed. Would have preferred to see Victor start and take him off when the game is won.
