SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

Good Morning Bhoys, Up with the kids in a coldish Airdrie, Looks as though the blog got a bit heavy in the early hours. Its not cliquey mate, just some bloggers have known each other a long time and meet up and stuff, most of my posts get ignored as well Nakagod, but its an awesome site were most people discuss what they want and are like minded not just about football. read back on the TV stuff, Breaking Bad is awesome the ending to season 4 is a wtf moment. The wire and Shield are also ace. anyway. been on all day today hopefully.

I think the only reason there was no redundancies was that the rich players didn’t want to take the 75% pay cut for the poorer players. which is fine if the media hadn’t peddled the old ali saves jobs and we’ll play for nothing guff. No one will play for nothing with perhaps exception of some youth players. they are desperate but most of their players wont care about that. Sentiment doesn’t line their pockets I’m affraid.

See with all this cheating and stuff and tax avoidance and one hun goes and another replaces him, We are kidding ourselves if we think we will ever get a level playing ground, never, We may get a spring sweep out every 20 yrs or so but it will always be in their favour as there’s too many guys with two first names in our footballing circles i’m afraid so when all this done and settled and we know what the hun has done and got away with. we will only have the refs to worry about ie. this season we must have scored about 15 goals that have wrongly been called for offside when the player is at least 2 yds onside, so if they get knocked down a league they will all rally around the minis are our rivals and i think Romanov knows that hence the debt and wages been paid on time since Feb 14th, ADMIN DAY!!

If i.m wrong it still a good story to pass the time.

There was great optimism when Regan arrived.

    The new broom.The clean skin.

He was chosen by the existing mob ,probably to do their bidding.

Maybe we will now see what he is made of,but I have no real expectation that there will be any significant improvement.

  9. Top of the morning to you all from a still, dark, but mild and dry Fife.

I can’t enjoy long lies these days for some reason or other. I find myself getting up earlier and earlier and logging on to see what pleasures the day has in store.

Yesterday was a bit of an anti-climax in the unravelling Hun saga, but I have notice that a non-event is usually followed by some startling expose that no one saw coming.

So expect some new revelations today or tomorrow.

Apologies if this piece lifted from FF has been posted already. I may have missed it, and for anyone else who missed it, have a look.

    —————————————————————————————————

On Monday 27th February at 7pm RST board members Derek Johnston and Mark Dingwall attended a FOCUS (Football Co-ordination Unit for Scotland) fan organisations forum on behalf of the Rangers Supporters Trust. The meeting had various representatives from Celtic, Partick Thistle, St Mirren, Kilmarnock and Queen of the South as well as three police officers from FOCUS. Only Inspector Marian MacLean, the deputy head of FOCUS, identified herself.

During the meeting the following outline for what is seen as the ‘guide’ on Offensive Behaviour at Football (2012) was given.

Any songs/ lyrics which refer in an offensive manner to heritage, religion, race, sex or mock the death/ injury of others as well as any songs/ lyrics which show support of any terrorist organisations.

The same ‘guide’ is also given in terms of any flags or banners supporters might produce at a regulated football match in Scotland (Junior football is not deemed as regulated.)

The police regard the Act a simplifying things and giving them a legal “one stop shop” in terms of powers to charge people with football-related behaviour. They claimed that fans shouldn’t see a difference in policing at games and that no new tactics would be employed.

Inspector MacLean said that she would consider no increase in arrests as a result of the legislation and said that she felt no pressure to justify the existence of FOCUS by upping the level of arrests at games.

HOWEVER, one of the two male police representatives announced that the song Build My Gallows is now “likely to be deemed chargeable” by police and shall be under scrutiny as of Thursday 1st March when this Bill comes into effect. The Rangers reps pointed out the song referred to a regiment in the British Army in no way connected to present day clandestine organisations and that this had been accepted recently after lengthy legal argument by UEFA. Subsequent enquiries have led us to believe that the “offending” part of the song is a reference to “fought the IRA”. It’s incredulous that someone might be arrested and charged for opposing rather than supporting a terrorist organisation.

The Lord Advocate’s Guidelines for the operation of the Act will shortly be published but we are told they involve exemptions. For instance, it will not be an offence to make a ‘religious sign’ in a football ground unless there are aggravating factors. This somewhat runs contrary to the mantra the police repeated throughout the meeting that fans should refrain from anything that has ‘nothing to do with football.’

Similarly, the singing of national anthems is excluded from arrestable behaviour even if they are in fact racist, sectarian or otherwise offensive.

The police repeatedly stated that bad taste and banter would be allowed but repeatedly stressed they would challenge songs or ‘banter’ that they consider to be ‘not appropriate,’ ‘not relevant’ or ‘not to do with football.’ Several reps asked if their vision of the future was the complete remove of rivalry, colour and wit and the replacement with nursery rhymes or complete silence.

All three police officers present said that there are some songs and chants not previously chargeable that now are but they declined to offer examples or explain the rationale they would be applying. It was pointed out that if they were having discussions about jailing people for Build My Gallows then they must have had other internal discussions and why would they not share that information with us and save people from being arrested.

The Trust would like to ask all fans to continue in vocally backing our team at matches but also make sure that you take care in the stands in terms of what you may sing/chant at a match.

yeah macjay that’s my take on Regan as well. He was given the job by Oglivie and the like and Peat probably had a say as well, so they wouldn’t want to anyone in who was gonna rock the boat. So i think he’s been compromised now or was just all bluster when he got the job with intentions of following through on any his threats like a politician.

Re: TNT there’s no point with new legislation if they don’t enforce it. The past two weeks their support would be dragged over the coals by the governing bodies and if UEFA could actually translate what was being sung would be on top of them as well. so the above lift from ff just tells us that they know its illegal but will still do it anyway. I only wish the couple of nuggets in our own support would stop giving them ammo in the old “there as bad as each other” war. I will believe it when i hear a difference.
