SFA finally acknowledge Rangers EBT issue

1494

Stewart Regan today gave a welcome update on the SFA’s on-going investigation into Rangers.  In response to Hugh Adam’s comments in today’s Daily Mail, Regan said:

“We are, however, aware of the most recent allegations made against Rangers FC today by a former director of the club. We shall investigate this matter thoroughly before making any further comment.”

SFA president, Campell Ogilvie, was general secretary and director of Rangers from 1978 until 2005. News broke about HMRC’s dispute over Rangers Employment Benefit Trust in 2010, you knew then, I knew then, the SFA knew then, but Ogilvie was subsequently elevated to the role of SFA president in 2011.  He is still on the SFA board.

We have waited almost two years the hear the SFA would investigate this matter. Now, with all the old certainties crumbling down around them, they realise they must act.

Can I be the first to congratulate Dundee FC on winning the Scottish Cup in 2003.

  1. So according to the Record, Duff and Duffer want Whyte to give up his shares for nothing. They also want to cancel the Ticketus deal.

Yet they are planning to arrest 3.6million in Whyte’s lawyer’s bank account (presumably from Ticketus?). So the want the Ticketus money but want to make the deal null and void at the same time?

In this scenario, how exactly do Ticketus get their money back then?

And does anyone seriously expect Whyte to say “Aye, ok, have my 85% stake in RFC for nothing. See ya.”??

If their fellows in the SPL brotherhood require such security in advance of executing joint ventures as routine as football matches, you may be sure that Rangers’ other contractors, from the window cleaner to the pie man, will have their hands out for settlement before any work is done or any supplies delivered.

    Could it be sweeter?

Said Simple Simon to the pieman:”What have you got there?”

    ” …kin` pies. “

  8. If a pay cut is enforced without the players’ agreement can the players regard that as breach of contract and leave the club?

    Gibbons again.

When, in November, Rangers were 15 points ahead of their most serious challengers, it was Celtic’s shame that they should be so far off such moderate rivals.

    Leaving aside,of course,honest mistakes.

    That`s what Gibbons can`t say.

Question – If you were a hun player (I know, I know) would you be putting your body on the line knowing a bad injury could end your career taking in to consideration you could very well become surplus to requirements sometime soon?

Comments after that Record article show they’re still willing to delude themselves.

One suggests that the fact that the players & manager have offered to work for nothing has made the administrators think again – and that things are getting brighter.

Ha! Work for nothing? these players won’t even accpet a pay cut. They are just offerring to defer their wages, massively increasing the debt you will have by the end of the season, making it even less likely that a rescue bid will be found.

And all this while you talk about putting collection buckets at all the turnstiles.

Interesting article. Double entendre at play in bold do you think?

  17. When will the penny drop for the peepil?

The taxi driver who kindly took me home last night was full of fans collecting money, direct debits and doing the right thing with Dunfermline. However this isn’t a junior team, millions of pounds are needed but the delusion goes on.

The mask slipped however when he suddenly attacked Muslims who jeer British soldiers on their return from Afghanistan. He had no come back when I asked about the religious hatred right here that has targeted Neil Lennon; 8 Attackers in jail and two on trial! Silence. No tip. No longer the peepil.

  20. hector, yes, the administrators wouldn’t be allowed to accept deferrment in any case.

So these players, this RangersFamily, who don’t do walking away, while the fans are asking for bank accounts to make donations to the cause, the best these players can come up with is an empty offer to defer their tens of thousands per week.

    Good Evening,

Listening to the Englishman from Limerick tonight on Radio Scotland, he amazingly accepted the notion that if the two contracts stuff spouted by Hugh Adam was proven then not only was that repeated cheating then he could see the demise of Rangers Football Club for good.

Given that Tom English is fast becoming the broadcast media’s darling of choice, his open statement on this matter is something that is sure to be followed up in print and on Scoreboard tomorrow. Of course, he predicates all such pronouncements with a heavily stressed “If it is proven”.

Well, I think we have now reached the stage where we can be reasonably confident that the truth will out here, and it will become clear that there were indeed two contracts. The detailed written decision in the Big Tax case looms ever closer, and it will be the detailed evidence referred to in that decision that will make for great reading.

The figure that is due at the end of the day will likley be in the realms of the £49m that has oft been discussed, although whether it is above or below that figure is no longer really that significant. No, the decision will shine a clear torch on the activities of Rangers Football club during the period concerned. It will unearth long hidden truths— and those truths will make life very very uncomfortable for some folk.

How many former Rangers players from the era concerned currently work in the media or elsewhere in Scottish football? How many can be prominently and regularly heard opining on matters Rangers/Whyte etc etc? Pundits, managers, coaches, and so on— they fill all those positions.

Rangers paid everyone under this scheme not just players. Directors, players and yes certain coaching staff were all paid tis way. That will all come out in the wash… make no mistake.

So what do the powers that be do when that happens. Some time ago I wrote an article or two which predicted huge problems for the SFA in terms of the clear conflict of interest they faced in terms of taking steps which they may see as financially in the best interests of football as against taking the steps which all common sense says should apply. I also wrote that deliberate lying or witholding of information against the rules and leading to the financial disadvantage of others– leads to them being entitled to damages for their loss.

There are many many people who were at Ibrox who know fine well they were paid through the EBT. It will be interesting to see which media savvy souls have the great good sense to come clean about such payments, and which will simply stick their head in the sands or head for the hills

The SFA and SPL will have no option but to act and investigate… and ultimately to sanction. Exactly what the sanction is will be determined by the clubs who will have to decide if they want to play in the same yard as an oberbearing cheating bully for the rest of their lives or whether the idea of slaying a Goliath is only for the field of play.
