SFA giving lectures on accountability

1464

Fifa is unfit for purpose, investigations abound but we’ve not seen convictions yet.  The president has not been arrested, but, well, he has president over this enormous shambles, yet he refuses to resign.  His resignation is needed to relieve the reputation of Fifa, the reputation of football itself.  We all know this, but SFA chef exec, Stewart Regan said as much.

The SFA is Blatter’s role model.  Regan conceded SFA president Campbell Ogilvie was horribly conflicted, as the Association dealt with the consequences of the biggest directorial negation of duty in Scottish football history – by Ogilvie, who was director and company secretary of the dysfunctional board.

Ogilvie never resigned.  Ogilvie has still not resigned.  Regan said nothing.  Ogilvie’s supporters in the game rallied round, just as Blatter’s have today.

This is how human nature works.  Ogilvie has been in enough committee meetings, pressed enough flesh, to ensure that despite the slaying he took at the hands of Lord Nimmo Smith’s SPL inquiry, he could brass it out.  Accountability at the SFA does not exist.  I get it.  But, the SFA cannot have the audacity to make moralistic statements about the corporate accountability of others.

It is a depressing feature of Scottish life that we don’t have a culture of accountability, that the media are not sufficiently plural that such hypocrisy is exposed for what it is, that there isn’t a single elected representative prepared to disengage with the Scottish establishment on this today.

The new media are not there yet.  We don’t have the authority of a broadcaster or politician to demand, and get, accountability.  That’ll change in time.

    Three possibilities.

    Celtic are uninterested.

Celtic are interested and are trying for change.

Celtic are interested but are powerless to cause change.

Time will tell but a few weeks back the indications were it’s not the first option.

  3. Pity about all the hoo-ha at FIFA. Campbell Ogilvie would have fitted right in there.

Is that the same Loretta Lynch who refused to clean up the HSBC scandal over laundering, opting for a fine that was a pittance and was then given a top job?

Just to be clear. I mentioned Israel because I had read that FIFA were due to kick them out due to their treatment of the Palistinians but may have picked that up wrong.

If there are insurgents in Livingston get them up St Andrews RC church in Craigshill.

    Quonno,

Long long before FIFA had any authority, FIFA made it global that is a bedrock, a few incidents hardly make it the norm.

FIFA and UEFA made it the norm

We can’t have our cake and eat it. Either we gave the world the game, warts included or we didn’t.

Isolated incident. Now just who was that Scottish club in the 1890s whose amateur players went on strike for more money.

In a later era. How many of us honestly believe that up to the 1960s Celtic and Rangers players regularly went south to earn a maximum wage of £20. per week.

  8. Livibhoy,

I never knew FIFA were thinking about kicking Israel out, does that help ?

  12. Quonno,

I’ve no idea, what I do have an idea about is that national corruption is tiny compare to international incorporated corruption.

We may have introduced the game and the corruption of the game but it needed too many to buy into corruption for it to become a bedrock.

Theres a big difference between incident and norm, the times your talking about though rife with imperial corruption the game was new and had still to be set in its ways.

  14. Come on Motherwell. Silence them with a stunning victory. I won’t be watching the game. Couldn’t stomach another display of the horrible antics of the most anti-social fans in football, and that’s me being kind.

A Scott McDonald winner would be the icing on the cake.

With apologies to Neganon2. If the Huns win, I’ll be giving the blog a miss, so I won’t have to endure your customary gloating.

    Israel / Palestine / Blatter / FIFA.

Saw film on Italian tele re Blatter’s recent meeting with Netanyahu.

    Blatter said this –

Palestine has submitted a Resolution re Israel to the soon come FIFA congress.

Only Palestine can sideline or withdraw that Resolution .If they don’t, the Resolution will be heard and voted upon.

He reiterated that a member country of FIFA could only be expelled from FIFA if and when that member country was deemed to be in breach of the conditions necessary for membership of FIFA

  26. anyone on here thinking Motherwell will be ALLOWED to defeat sevco is deluded. For decades we have watched that team crawl from the gutter with a helping hand from SFA and the compliant media. This is honest mistake panto time.

  27. Bada Bing,

hi mate,i was lurking last few days and noted you were talking about Brazil/nike and corruption. The name wanderley Luxemburgo may spring to mind.I recall reading an article about players there getting one cap and then being transferred to Europe for over inflated prices and of course profits for agents etc. This in part was due to players being part owned by different agents(Carlos Tevez when he came to West Ham etc).interesting chat tho mate.:-).a couple of articles may be of interest to you

“All this talk of football corruption reminds me. @ScottishFA have appointed ex-RFC season ticket holder as ref for tonight’s crucial game”.

  31. I’m staying out of the old FIFA debate. It’s a bit complicated.

In other news I spoke to my mate who is a Motherwell season ticket holder. He fears the worst tonight and says the current side are spineless.

He is not going to the Temple of Doom. Don’t blame him for that. He dislikes the Hun very much. He went to a few Celtic games with me as a lad. Certainly prefers us to to any team playing out of Ibrox.
