SFA tears that Newco are little more than cannon fodder, CQN Podcast launches

293

Speaking to the media over the weekend, SFA president, Alan McRae, suggested it would be boring if Celtic won another treble and that Rangers (sic.) making a proper run at the title was necessary. McRae was, perhaps, the worse for wear, when Aberdeen pushed Celtic all the way in the Scottish Cup final, while finishing second in the league and League Cup runners up.

This mind-set is so informative. Aberdeen are dismissed while Newco are the great red white and blue hope. Perhaps after another season of Ibrox ineptitude the penny will drop at the top of the SFA that what people previously regarded as the ‘Rangers challenge’ is over and it’s not coming back.

Despite Newco signing their captain on a free transfer, Aberdeen have a more sustainable financial model than Newco last season’s third placed side. They have conventional banking facilities, with a credit score high enough to support an overdraft. They will lose and make money in the seasons ahead, but will never be in financial crisis.

The brutal truth is that Newco are little more than cannon fodder. They bring millions to the game, putting money into the coffers of each opponent, but their own income is insufficient to resource the challenge Alan McRae craves. This will not change until, or unless, Celtic are allowed to leave Scottish football.

No one will be able to put a glove on Celtic anytime soon.  Even England struggled to do so on Saturday.

The first Celtic Quick News podcast, A Celtic State of Mind, launched yesterday. Legendary Celtic author, Paul John Dykes and Kevin Graham of the Affiliation introduce the series, with guest, Paul Gallagher.

This is the first in what will be a weekly series of podcasts. I’m delighted with the people we have involved in the project. Catch it here, you will enjoy.

    I was the poster who mentioned that my tenner wasn’t deducted – nor my wife’s. I also didn’t get an option to sign up for the home cup TicketScheme. I asked if anyone else had experienced this but haven’t had any response.

    I’ll need to contact the club and enquire what’s gone wrong there.

    With regard to whom will make up the SFSA it is a wide church. Something Celtic supporters welcome.

    —————————————-

    ‘The SFSA is a natural consequence of what Res12 tried to uncover.’ So. You’re not joking!!!

    You can be sure, Auldheid, that when any influential decisions have to be made by the interests of Celtic supporters will be way down in the priorities of this so-called independent lot. Even the broadest church has walls, and we’ll be kept very much on the outside.

    ================

    Given that you do not know how the SFSA intend to operate what is the basis for your statement? The only way it might come true is if Celtic supporters decide not to take part, which makes it a self fulfilling prophecy on your part.

    ==================

    Auldheid. Do you get a sense that the requisitioners (or some of them) of Res 12 (aka ‘Fab 4) were duped by the PLC prior to AGM November 2013 when the Resolution foundered before it was debated ?

    ======================

    Glad to clear up the foundering misconception.

    Res12 was placed and Celtics official response in the AGM Report was that it was not necessary (to approach the CFCB.) Had it been debated that stance would have been justified by Celtic telling the audience that they had already approached the SFA and had a response that told them an investigation was not needed and why.

    All that could be put forward to counter at that time was a strong suspicion based on CF material leaked in June 2013, whose veracity and provenance was doubtful at the time, that the licensing process was not properly conducted. Had it gone to a vote then Res12 would have died then and there.

    Before the AGM Celtic first requested REs12 be withdrawn because of the SFA response, but that request could not be agreed to because of the material telling a different story.

    The idea of an adjournment kept the Res alive (and it still is) which was welcomed by requistioners as it gave time to flesh out the suspicions and gain a better understanding of the licensing process. It also protected Celtic on the basis that if suspicions became facts (as they now have although no one thought it would take five years) Celtic would have been in the wrong to vote it down.

    So no duping at the AGM, no avoidance of a debate, just a sensible decision in the circumstances.

    My friends in Celtic,

    The paying public of the Celtic support are not daft. In the vast majority of cases they have to make certain sacrifices to afford their ST’s.

    They follow the team in record numbers ,knowing all about the cheating and skullduggery that has blighted our game.

    Yes we want a ” day of reckoning ” but we realise that hurting the team and the club is ludicrous and frankly self defeating.

    **********

    GP … what do you mean by ‘hurting the team’? Not renewing season tickets unless/until Celtic does something about the cheating?

    There is the old definition of insanity …. doing the same thing, but expecting different results. As you say, we know the cheating has been going on, but we keep funding ….

    What do you say is the ‘one scenario’ that could affect our crowds?

    Not a dig, pal. Genuinely interested in your thoughts.

    BHOYJOEBELFAST and others re that Falkirk 6-2 defeat…

    ***

    Was there not a boycott of Brockville at that time, or was that just me?

    You are correct about the boycott (see the Celtic wiki note below) however that was a good few years earlier …

    • 1957-09-07: Falkirk 0-1 Celtic, League Division 1

    “There was a degree of boycott from the Celtic Supporters Association of this Falkirk away game, the reason being given was the uproar after the visit to Falkirk in 1955 when there had been glass throwing, disturbances on the terraces and Rae sent to the stands after an incident involving Tully. The Supporters still felt that there was little case to answer from the Celtic fans and as such any Falkirk away game was treated as circumspect.”

    Still on the topic of Brockville, I remember being at a game there around St Patrick’s Day (I checked the records and it was on 16 March 1967 – we won 3-0). You may recall there was a “boys section” in one of the corners of the ground. it was populated by Celtic supporters that day. Despite there being no trouble, the local constabulary spent almost the entire game evicting many of those Celtic supporters from that area, marching them around the cinder track.

    Still on boycott’s the last really effective exercise I can recall was that undertaken by the Celtic supporters for the penultimate league game of the 1971/72 season v Hearts at Tynecastle – again see the Celtic wiki article below…

    ” Just over ten thousand watch game due to a “spectacularly effective” boycott by Celtic fans because of ticket price increase by Hearts. However one of the main reasons for the boycott by Celtic fans was in protest at the extremely poor stewarding and arrangements at the Scottish Cup quarter final game when poor arrangements outside the ground and tensions inside meant that many of the travelling Celtic support missed the start and frustrations resulted with fighting on the terraces and police intervention.”

    For my sins, I attended the game and travelled through to Edinburgh with the Hearts Glasgow (Central) supporters club. We lost 1-4 so I travelled back by train!

  10. Unfortunately .regan will never get to digest joe’s letter . And with regards to McRae , when he goes another will just step up to the bigot plate . The only hope we as celtic fans seeking Justice have ,is if the plc grow a set and back the res 12 bhoys , and sadly that isn’t going to happen . In a way I can understand some other teams fans keeping stoom , as no doubt they need the cash from the Huns fans . But for Aberdeen , hibs , hearts , the Dundee teams not to stand up against the cheating within Scottish football is cowardice , they are all capable of doing without the Hun pound filling there own stadiums on the occasions they play trfcil . Especially if they think it’s a cup final .

  11. Fairhill Bhoy,

    Ellon is about 10 miles north of Aberdeen, and there’s nae money there either, unless you count the fat idiot that built a golf course between Aberdeen and Ellon, and the boys that built the Brewdog Empire. ;-)

    Joe’s letter will be ignored & your points about the other clubs in Scotland are true

    the only way for our Club to move forward from this serious corruption that is

    but it’s a no brainer that the other Clubs in Scotland along with the corrupt

    The Brockville game we won 3-0 was in 1968. It was the very first game I watched Celtic in the flesh. I remember that tiny wee enclosure – to the right of the stand at the railway end I think. I recall also that the game was being filmed for tv and during the first half something fell off the roof so the Beeb stopped filming it. I don’t recall there being any Falkirk fans on the terracing- some in the stand as they all jumped up in the first minute as they thought they’d scored.

    As for the Hearts games the cup tie was just about the worst trouble I ever saw- tumblers and bottles thrown up at the underside of the roof at corner near the school end so the broken glass would shower on the fans beneath. My mum forbade me from going to Tynecastle until 1976!

    And the 4-1 game? The BBC’s Alistair Dewar began his report on the tea time Sportsreel ‘ ‘Hearts 4 Celtic 1 I like it so much I’ll say it again…’ Good old Auntie
