Shadow industry around football

167

There’s speculation in one of the ‘papers today that Celtic are interested in a 28-year-old forward playing in the English second-tier whom few of us have heard of.  Celtic will sign a player of this profile on occasion, but he will not feature in a target list over two months before the transfer window opens.  Lists with that profile on them are visited late in a disappointing window.

Footballers and their agents are always looking to maximise their return.  Newspapers are always looking for stories.  What does an agent need to do to be able to tell a newspaper in good conscience that Celtic are looking at a player?  I think an email and phone call to one of the scouts is enough.  There’s a whole shadow industry around football which sits in plain sight but is underappreciated.

“You can’t just drop someone into a football club from the other side of the world and expect them to adapt to the culture, food, training, all these various facets it takes.”  Brendan Rodgers, talking about Yang’s recent good form after arriving at the club in the summer.

He added, “People not only forget it, but don’t understand it, or don’t want to understand it.”  Too succeed at the game we need to understand key components of the game.  None is more important that how to support the development of players.

  1. Nick De Marco I hear you say .

The football law version of Lionel Messi ?

Where was he when Stewart Regan and Nimmo Smith were shafting Scottish football? 🤔

Can only hope it’s just Brendan and his lawyer tomorrow, no Board cowards required.

  3. In response to the critical statement from the Green Brigade and Bhoys Celtic concerning the non-facilitation of The Celtic End for Celtic FC Women’s upcoming matches, Celtic has offered their side on the matter.

The club’s administration, acknowledging the discontent expressed by these fan groups, explained the rationale behind their decision, citing safety concerns as the primary reason for not making the Jock Stein stand available for this initiative.

However, the club has said they were willing to open the standing section for the match.

    YouTube video player

A spokesperson for Celtic said: “The group were made aware that the Jock Stein would not be made available due to certain safety concerns relating to this specific area, but arrangements have been made by the Club to allow the group to attend within the Rail Seating Section.

“This has been communicated to the group and the Club hopes that as many supporters and supporter groups as possible come along to support Celtic FC Women at the upcoming Celtic Park matches, as well as all other matches.”

  4. it is a power play, they want a standing section for the whole bottom tier of the “celtic end”.

however, non attendnance in no wat strenghens the case,

quite pitiful way to go about things.

  5. ‘The Secret Army’

Filmed in 1972 by an American film crew, intended to be a propaganda vehicle for the (Provisional) IRA in the USA, though probably never shown there. Haven’t watched it yet, but it should be on the BBCi player.

Martin McGuinness, among others, is filmed helping to prepare car bombs, one of which was later detonated in Derry. Incredible to think an organisation would leave itself open to arrest and or infiltration back then.

Then again different rules applied themselves.

  6. Got this

we are living in a time when intelligent people are being silenced so that stupid people will not be offended.

The club have tried to sooth them with offers to open up their usual playpen to no avail. So the club will need to reinforce its boundaries and discipline.

  11. AT,

What are you on about. Who mentioned Irishness, Palestine or Genocide.

I’m talking about a section of fans trying to tell our club what to do then refusing to accept the clubs compromise and issuing a daft statement.

    No more and no less.

  12. garygillespieshamstring on

Would imagine it would need to use more.

Heat from the pie would raise the air temperature inside the fridge so causing the fridge to use more electricity to maintain the set temperature.

This assumes the fridge thermostat is set to a temperature lower than the temperature of the pie.

    However again, an uneducated opinion.

Is the pie a wee scotch pie or a full monty steak pie for 2 or 4 or 6. There lies the question 🧐

Why would having a board representative ( possibly even one who is also a qualified lawyer ) along side Brendan and his lawyer, at the hearing tomorrow, be a bad thing ?

  16. Gp

Your not a fan of Celtic fans called the green brigade.thats known, you and i have had many a prang, but it just comes down to being comfortable in your own support instead of playing snob.Celtic,as shown, are comfortable dealing with them, you should be too.

Easy, we need to avoid the usual, bland , transparent, acceptance,Masonic, watered down, fodder, we have been fed for years, when we are hauled up.We actually have a chance,to make some inroads into the constant cheating, we have had to endure for years.Nicholson is part of the same cabal, who has ran our Club for years, more of the same won’t hack it anymore.

Reading videocelts.com, they raise a reasonable question, how save would BR be in the main stand at the bigotdome 🤔

  19. Don’t think the idea is exclusive to the North Curve, but I’d like to see a lower tier all standing (and singing)

Celtic End. Would need some forward planning though and ideally an accord with UEFA re say 20% of the capacity standing, always lower tier. Would have to accord also with our supporters who are longstanding in that area.

  20. Just caught up that EuroChamps 67 is no longer with us………..
