Shrinking the squad, and an update

454

I’d hopes Dedryck Boyata would bask in the reflective glory of being part of a fancied Belgium squad at the forthcoming Euros. It would enhance is reputation and perceived value, but alas, his injury has ruled him out, and will likely mean he’ll miss Champions League qualifiers, so he’s on the payroll and in the stand for at least a portion of next season.

News that Colin Kazim-Richards will travel to Brazil to discuss a move there will help Brendan Rodger’s attempts to bring the squad size down to a more reasonable level, as Carlton Cole’s pay-as-you-play arrangement will formally become a don’t-pay-as-you’re-not-playing further clears the decks. This leaves only, Leigh Griffiths and returning strikers Anthony Stokes and Stefan Scepovic, who will, at most, be a bit-part players.

Getting it right with the next striker to sign is important after so many misfires.

We’re finally seeing some movement on Res 12 issues. The advert will first appear in the principle business newspaper in Nyon, where Uefa have their headquarters. Will update you as and when. We’re going to run the UK ad after the Swiss story, so nothing here tomorrow.

Oh, and there was no legal action or threats thereof last night. We had a tactical rethink and pulled a related article, nothing more.

I’m in the ‘rated Scepcovic’ camp. Like Jamesgang, I remember watching him, and thinking he was making intelligent runs into space, but the ball rarely went forward to him (or even forward generally).

  2. To put things back into perspective my original post was not solely about Šćepović it was about the scouting system and the number of ‘strikers’ we have bought than couldnae hit a coo’s erse with a banjo.

Those of you who think Šćepović if the real deal then fair play to you. I just hope my season ticket is facing the pitch next season :-))

I want to join the Scepcovic -looked like a player who understood space and angles but rarely got the service- clique. No point in making the run if the ball ends up being ” passed ” sideways or backwards.

Paul addressed this in the lead article. he said:

“We’re going to run the UK ad after the Swiss story, so nothing here tomorrow.”

By here he means British newspapers.

Things are afoot, I could outline exactly what is going on but to do so would weaken what we are trying to achieve.

I don’t mean to frustrate anyone. The Res 12 guys meet their stated objective tomorrow. Their job you could say is done. We are trying to influence what happens next and others are trying to stop that happening.

  6. I had read elsewhere that we had got rid of Scepovic to Getafe for £1.5M after they took out the option agreed in his loan deal. Disappointed to hear that he is on his way back.

Also what about Ciftci? I assume he is set to return from loan although I hope we can move him on as well.

Could any of you point me in the right direction of the definitive reference for events involving Celtic, Club/Team/Fans throughout the 1966/67 season?….apart from the Celtic Wiki that is.

    Many thanks in advance!

Joe Ledley has recovered sufficiently to be named in the Wales squad for the Euros – fair play, didn’t look likely

This Scepovic sounds some striker, intelligent runs, making angles but just didn’t get the service, he must be a different guy to the one I remember getting bullied by average SPFL defenders, couldn’t finish when presented many goal scoring opportunities, Scepovic lacks strength, hasn’t got pace and isn’t a natural striker, he makes Pukki look like a top striker.

Paul’s leader was obviously being misinterpreted. Hence why some were questioning it.

    Thank you for the clarification.

  11. I never thought Scepcovic was given enough of a chance to make an opinion of him.

Ronnie went out of his way to sign him, then took Gudetti on loan and the froze him out even after he had scored a few goals.

  12. Scepovic lacks pace ,strength and height.

    He doesn’t score enough goals.

Didn’t say he was the ‘real deal’ or ‘the answer’!

I’d never be that fussed about a guy who was so obviously less than keen to sign for us in the first place.

Just pointing out that he was he was very far from being the only or indeed main problem(s) which were…..

    a) a dire scouting performance in terms of strikers in particular

    b) our service to our striker(s) which seemed designed to be sooooo sloooooow that it actually allowed people to Q for food and still be back in time to see a forward pass!!

  21. Confirmation from Switzerland that the Resolution 12 Statement has passed all necessary editorial and legal checks and will be published in tomorrow’s edition of Tribune de Geneve.

We have CQNers based there who will photograph the newspaper and send it to us.

These things are much more difficult to arrange than you would think.

The Swiss newspaper approved the Statement after reading it. The Herald rejected it without even seeing the wording.

Tells you all you need to know. No wonder journalists are asking us questions about Resolution 12….

  25. The more that I learn about the antics surrounding the efforts to get Res 12 on the table, the more it seems to be a grenade that is about to go off….injurying all parties involved in it.

  27. What the unfolding story of the Res12 advert publication shows, is that , sometimes even expressing an opinion through a self-funded advertisement, can be tricky and subject to unforeseen events.

I hope this gets through to those who have been constantly ‘shouting the odds’ that Celtic FC should throw caution to wind and come out ‘all guns blazing’, to blast ‘Rangers’, SFA, Regan….etc.

The Res 12 people are enthusiastic, motivated and not constrained by membership of the SFA/UEFA – yet even they cannot proceed without caution. Planned UK publication seems to have been postponed on two occasions and a CQN article accusing Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times of refusing to publish, has been withdrawn.

Celtic FC is in a completely different position legally and must be on a legally unassailable footing at all times.

If we get things wrong on this issue goes ‘through the ringer’, we will get ‘splattered’ and lose not only the argument, but our credibility.

We could fall foul of the ‘Law of Unintended Consequences’, labelled as alarmists, and never taken seriously again.
