Sinister and inflammatory

542

I was considerably alarmed at this morning’s Daily Record article, which appears to equate calls for an inquiry into an alleged conspiracy to subvert tax law, as well as SFA and SPL rules, on a level with sectarianism. Most clearly here:

“Of course, this will infuriate the self-proclaimed, proud ‘bampots’ on social media toiling away 24/7 in pursuit of justice for Scottish football.

“Their irreversibly entrenched view will always be that ‘the Protestant establishment club cheated on an industrial scale’”.

I’m disturbed that so many people on social media are having their views on rule breaking caricatured as an anti-Protestant witch-hunt.

This is wildly inaccurate, sinister and inflammatory. A sign, perhaps, of the direction of travel in this debate.

This bit is really, REALLY, important.

If there is a perception that there is a risk to social media users this debate is closed – trust me on this one. Right now, some are asking themselves, “How much sectarian hatred are the media prepared to stir up if we talk about this?”

Convince people their club’s record is being questioned, not because of rule breaking, but for religious reasons, and you open Pandora’s Box – and we all know this.

Don’t get angry. This angle is thus far isolated, should be mocked and we should quickly move on.

If you want the debate to take place, don’t lose focus and stick to the point: were tax laws, SFA and SPL rules broken, if so, was this an oversight, or was there a conspiracy to subvert the rules and earlier inquiries?

Perhaps most importantly, this is the time for other clubs and their fans to have their say.

Jim Craig and Brendan Sweeney on CQN TONIGHT!

Lisbon Lion, Jim Craig, and Celt for Change, Brendan Sweeny, Live chat on CQN tonight.

I’m absolutely delighted we have yet another Lisbon Lion, Jim Craig, on CQN tonight, as well as a one of the most influential fans in our history, Brendan Sweeny (who will cringe at reading that).

Brendan has researched and written Celtic: The Early Years, forward by Jim. It is the most incredible account of the how and why a football club was formed in Parkhead in 1888, and the seismic events which shaped its future during the Early Years.

Both will be on CQN tonight from 7:30, you can ask questions on the blog and chat to them. Ask Jim about those great times, his career after football, or what’s going on at the club now.

Brendan, as an integral part of Celts for Change, Jungle Bhoys and now Celtic Graves Society, has been a force of nature for the Celtic cause. This is also about as far into the limelight as he’s ever likely to emerge!

Premium Seats competition for Kilmarnock game on Saturday

Magners, Celtic’s main sponsor, are offering fans the chance to win a pair of Premium Seat tickets in the Jock Stein Stand to the match. All you have to do is answer the following question:

Who was Celtic manager when Kilmarnock won their first game in over half a century?

Email answer to celticquicknews@gmail.com with the answer in the email SUBJECT box.

Competition closes at 22:00 tonight, so this is a one day target!

On another subject, Ad hominem, def:

An ad hominem (Latin for “to the man” or “to the person”), is an attack on an argument made by attacking the character, motive, or other attribute of the person making the argument, rather than attacking the argument directly. When used inappropriately, it is a logical fallacy in which a claim or argument is dismissed on the basis of some irrelevant fact or supposition about the author or the person being criticised.

Just saying……..

Time for some Labi Siffre tunes.

The site we are both currently posting on is called Celtic quick news, it is no surprise that as we approach a Celtic AGM that myself as a lifetime Celtic fan and a season ticket holder is posting on issues that will be on the forthcoming agenda of the Celtic AGM.

BTW your world view sucks big time mate………

  3. So we have a Labour MP,poking his head above the parapets to have a go at Celtic. Can anyone please inform me if this MP has had any opinion of the biggest sporting scandal in our history.Has he ever uttered a word on the subject.I am sure this would have got him a great deal of publicity. Then again,Celtic are a soft target.

It seems we now should not expect anyone to say or have an opinion on the Hun scandal,ex players,or even higher profile Celtic fans,in case of a Hun backlash.Yet we have numerous posters on here every day expecting,in fact demanding PL come out and tell it like it is on every topic involving the Huns.Is the safety of PL not important,if this is the road we are going down.

Say nothing, sit at the back of the bus, keep your head down,in case you say anything that might anger the Huns, but not PL.

    Unbelievable.

  4. The former scored 82 goals in 132 appearances for the Hooper whereas Griffiths has scored 45 goals in 80 appearances so far.

As quoted Lennon gave his opinion and said:

He [Griffiths] is a natural goalscorer and you can’t coach that, his movement was always very good.

He’s got a bit of the devil in him – you don’t want to coach that out because some players need that, it helps them play with an edge.

He is maybe not at the level of a [Gary] Hooper but is without doubt a quality finisher and one you could work with and make even better. I’ve got a lot of time for him and I’m glad things are going well now at Celtic.

Sorry Neil, for me happy to keep Griffiths, wouldn’t swap for hooper

No. It’s something all employers should be doing but since there’s only 24 hours in a day it’s perfectly reasonable to start with the company you care about most.

You’re giving the impression that you’re quite happy with the situation where some of our employees have a low quality of life.

When I was on a really low wage, if you’d have asked me about it, I probably would have given the impression I wasn’t that unhappy but that’s because you’re so used to the fact that you just don’t think too much about it. It’s not really that great cooking in bulk and then tweaking the pot of whatever with spices so you’re essentially eating the same thing for 3 or 4 days but that’s what you do, and you put up with it. There was no real socialising or entertainment in the budget either.

If you really made me think about it, I’d probably come to the conclusion that there was a degree of mental issues involved. I certainly slept a lot, which is a classic indicator.

That’s not what I want for employees anywhere. Certainly not at Celtic.

  6. Celtic should be an ALW employer.Dont know how that works with outsourced workers employed by agencies being used at Celtic Park though. In my time being involved with Labour agencies always left me with the feeling I needed a shower on leaving their premises.

Alas, I blame them they’re Cafflick school’s, its all there fault. Where it not for them their wouldn’t be such illiteracy in our country. Were not going to fix it until there expunged from our countries infrastructure.

Now don’t get me started on incorrect use of apropostrophe’s, especially using them in plural’s.

All football fans have there opinions on the merits of individual football players Neil Lennon feels Hooper is still a better striker than Griffiths. Sorry Neil I dont agree for me it is Griffiths everytime I just hope Celtic tie the player up on a long contract. H.H.

Good blog last night, very enjoyable catching up and one wee point regarding the msm which has annoyed me namely the article with the insulting “self proclaimed ballots”,the phrase was actually coined by Hugh Keevins on ssb to denigrate normal football fans with an opinion on the game.
