Six days out and a mountain to climb

1664

Over the last few days we have worked with Mary’s Meals to identify a second school without basic facilities in one of the most deprived areas of the world.  We have confirmed St Josephs’ Primary School in Kasungu, Malawi (the 17th poorest country in the world), which has a roll of 746 pupils and no facilities to provide food, meaning many children have to work to feed themselves instead of being educated.

The necessary permissions have been confirmed, and Mary’s Meals can send resources there as soon as money is available.  If we are successful, St Joseph’s will get a brick-built kitchen which will double as a classroom with stoves, pots, utensils, spoons and mugs.  As a result, kids will attend school to get what on many occasions will be their only meal of the day.  They will also get an education and better chances in later life.

The cost of the kitchen is £7000.  We are only six days out from CQteN so we shouldn’t expect miracles but we’ll be here until the job is done.

Construction is underway at our first school at the Kholoni Primary School in Mchinji, Malawi, which has a school roll of 1221 children.

We have a donations page for CQN Mary’s Meals’ projects, if you would like to help out, you can do so here.

Seville, The Celtic Movement, launches this month.

“There were 10 in our party and collecting the tickets took priority. Once we had them we could afford time to eat, but what? Several restaurants were sold out but we eventually found a café with frozen chips and a meat-based slab of something or other. No choices. No beer, wine or cola either, it was diluting orange juice or water. An entire city was pretty much emptied of food and drink.”

Sorry, but it says nothing of the sort in my opinion.

We have approached the Pavillion because they were already putting on the Roper production. The approach is designed to raise the profile of CQN and what it does, and to highlight that while they are putting on a production that centres on Seville we are producing a book which features the tales of many fans who did or did not make it to the final.

” but the fact that you have approached a venue that is out of the price range of many of our support says much about how our core support is viewed by those in positions of influence”

If that comment is aimed at me — I am sorry but you had better explain how I see the core support because sorry that is a comment that no fair minded individual would allow to pass.

Just in from “THE IRISH IN SCOTLAND: PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE” at St. Pat’s in Coatbridge. The Panel consisted of Professor Tom Devine, Siobhan McMahon MSP, Peter Kearney, Hugh Henry MSP, Professor Patrick Reilly, Joan McAlpine MSP and Danny Boyle. Professor Bob Davis of Glasgow University was the Chair. Excellent evening of discussion and debate from some great writers and thinkers.

Well done, Gerry, on getting the tickets at the last minute. Stop lurking and start posting!

  15. Ever been to Taylor High School in Carfin? People tell how ugly a building it is but it really doesn’t prefer you for the site that looks like its just suffered a massive fire.

I heard on the radio this afternoon that rangers goal against Albion was a little controversial. It didn’t prefer me for the worse decision in Scottish football since a last minute against given against Hearts by a linesman in 2005.

    Auldheid,

We are in your debt for the efforts you make on our behalf & for keeping us informed.

    THANK YOU.

  17. The programme for CQTEN is now complete – a lovely little publication it is too and the cover is very special and features a handful of our distinguished guests.

I was nagging BRTH to get his auction text in tonight so we could complete the programme – he just doesn’t know when to stop and has been adding superb prizes all weekend – I said deadline is before The Muskateers and he was only ten minutes late. A weekend working on CQTEN for charity purposes then an accusation about having his priorities wrong.

This is the guy who I said to his sister is a complete mad man for daring to think he could raise the hundreds of thousands to save a wee girl’s life. Raise it he did. I for one think BRTH has his priorities as a Celtic supporter all right.

  20. The Huns were better than AR today but not so much so they could fully bully and boss the part timers. I can’t wait for their delusion to be obliterated by any of the SPFL clubs they may soon encounter
